I had high hopes for Toasted after seeing posts on social media, and grabbing a gift card from Costco that saved me $30. But, I don't know if it was because it was a holiday weekend and they were too busy/understaffed or what... but there were some things that will keep me from coming back: - how the line out the door was managed. Not efficient nor clear at all. Apparently people lining on the right side was for just to get your name down and people walking in the left had reservations. By the time I got to the front, I was told the bar seating was open and had I known that from the beginning I could have saved 40 mins of my life. -service was slow, slow to get acknowledged, slow to get the menu, slow to get water. Once ordered the food did come out quick - the food was nothing I would call amazing. Just basic brunch. I ordered a French omelet which when done correctly, it's really floofy. Mine was not floofy at all and almost looked like a regular omelet. Let alone presentation was along the lines of Dennys. - the highlight was those little potato balls. And although they were really good, I wouldn't come back just for that. Maybe I'll give it another try for dinner. Or when I'm tight on money and grab a gift card to take advantage of the savings. Eric was our server and he was very nice and super accommodating and transparent about the timeframe for bottomless mimosas, even though we arrived less than two hours before closing. Best dining experience I have ever had. By far my favorite host named Thor Darwell. He really cared about everything I had to say to him, it was a short conversation that felt like I've had throughout all my precious lifetimes. We talked about music such as stone roses and oasis, in my opinion he should be in charge of the music in there. My party of four attempted to eat at Toasted for the first time on 12/19 at approximately 2 PM. This was our first time eating here and were excited for the experience and delicious food. There was a smattering of diners at a few different tables in the area facing the front so it looked like we had come past the lunch rush. We were met by a server (or hostess) and I asked them for a table of four. She informed us it would be a 15 minute wait because "we are having a server issues". I said, that's OK, that we'd be happy to sit down at a table and wait patiently since I was with two elderly parents, which would've made them more comfortable. In my mind, I didn't think this was such a big deal, but apparently it was. The server said no, that it was not possible, so we opted to go somewhere else. So, I know this whole experience sounds pretty benign, but I think it speaks to a bigger issue of how a restaurant may operate especially when it comes to first impressions. The server did not make a good first impression and unfortunately is going to negatively impact my non-experience with this restaurant. I'm sure if the owner, a manager, or a hostess had been there it might've been a different experience. Restaurants come and go and all it takes is one little thing to prevent a loyal customer from returning. In this case, Toasted didn't even get to have me as a first time customer. The service was very slow - we watched as a group who'd just sat down was immediately served. We had to call a server over. I asked for no tomato with my Crispy Chicken Sandwich, but got it anyway. They did take it off the bill after I complained. My partner had the Eggs Benedict, which I understood this chain was well known for. To begin with, the La Mesa one has only 5 to choose from, whereas other Toasteds apparently have more. His Eggs Benedict was very poor - the sauce was an odd orange color and he said it tasted like it came out of a can and the whole thing was soaked. It came with some nasty potato ball things. I took my sandwich apart to remove the tomato and it was bits of breaded chicken soaked in sauce. The only thing we liked were the lattes and my French fries. read more

We went here not realizing it was not Sammy's anymore and decided to go ahead and give it a try. A lot of the same salads, the Gorgonzola salad with chicken and walnuts was excellent. My son had spaghetti bolognese and it was just ok especially since it was $27, definitely not worth the price. The avocado toast was $19 and just average which I thought was overpriced for what it was as well. Not a lot of appetizers available, I miss the hummus Sammy's had. When we finally get the food, everyone food comes out except mine. Our waiter comes and realizes my food never came out. I was here with my boyfriend and had bottomless mimosas, Short ribs Benny, Southern style chicken Benny, and Chai tea Ice Latte. Everything was amazing as usual. The decorations were cute and they took good care of everything. This place hasn't let me down at all the locations that I had been. What impressed me more is Tee. It was so busy in the afternoon and at one point she had about 8 tables all together. Tee served me several times and she is always generous and takes good care of us and all the customers she has. We returned to Toasted today and had a much better experience. We finally got to sit down and enjoy a meal. This time, we joined the waitlist, since reservations was still not an option for some reason. When we arrived, we still had to wait a few minutes, but it was literally just a few minutes. The restaurant ambiance was really cool and trendy - it's a nice place and I've been wanting to try it out for some time now. The food was good, and the portions are quite large. However, my latte was definitely on the tiny side. The service was ok - they were kind of slow initially greeting the table which I found odd because it wasn't crowded in there. Once our food order was taken, everything seemed to move along at a reasonable pace. I really appreciate that after our less than favorable experience a couple of days ago, someone did reach out and apologize and invited us back. I appreciate good customer service and because I felt like someone there actually cares about that as well, I was more than happy to update my review. I will definitely go back because overall, we did like the food and environment. It's a little worrisome that they were a bit slow at first, only because a crowded day would probably make things much worse. But I am excited to return and try some other items on the menu that looked really good. AND they have bottomless mimosas that I need to try that I skipped this time around. We arrived at 9:15 and the place was fairly empty. They couldn't seat us, a group of 10, because they didn't have servers. After getting seated it took about 30 for us all to get our drinks. When you're with kids, it's tough to wait that long for drinks. We ordered when we a server was finally assigned to our table. The food took longer than expected. The best little hidden gem for brunch! The food is AMAZING! The decor is different but it makes you feel like you're eating in a secret garden when you're inside. It's so cute. I've had the stuffed French toast which was 10/10, it was almost too sweet but perfect to pair with a savory breakfast dish. The mimosa flight is a MUST! Absolute must. The menu and reviews seemed pretty solid so we ventured out from sleepy little Lakeside to a lively little LaMesa. We were pleasantly surprised by the crowd, ambience and overall trendiness of Toasted. Once seated, service was pretty prompt to get our drinks and food order. Unfortunately one of our orders was not quite right. My husband was disappointed as he really wanted to try their spicy syrup. Interesting enough, the waitress acknowledged her mistake, but instead of bringing a sample of the syrup that was meant for the correct dish, she compt part of his meal, which was nice of her to do, but would have also been nice to give us a taste of what he wanted to try.
