Tried a new spot this morning with the hubby after our early morning walk. We were pleasantly surprised. Very cute little cafe. I personally enjoyed all the little plants they had. We were greated and sat right away. Nice menu options. What we ordered: * Biscuits & Gravy * Steak Omelette * Sourdough Toast * Iced Brown Sugar Cinnamon Oat Latte * Iced Horchata Latte The biscuits were ok. A little on the bland side & the gravy didn't have much sausage. The steak omelette was delicious. Full of flavor along with their well seasoned homefries. We had a great breakfast at Daily Grind! I ordered the Eggs Florentine Benedict, my husband had the chicken fried steak, and my son enjoyed the bagel sandwich. We also shared a short stack of pancakes and I treated myself to a cappuccino, which was especially tasty. The food was flavorful, fresh, and served hot--everything we ordered was delicious. The only small issue was that the breakfast potatoes were a bit lukewarm when they arrived. Other than that, the meal was excellent and the service was friendly. We tried another place on our places to try list. We really enjoyed the vibe. Service was good and food was delicious. We started off with an order of biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were good it tasted like pizza crust.. We shared there steak omelette. We also ordered to coffees to go . A Horchata Latte and a Brown sugar oat Latte. The steak omelette with house potatoes is shareable and full of flavor excellent cheese pull steak well seasoned. The drinks were love in a cup. Over priced for sub par food. The classic $18 Socal breakfast burrito (not even including bacon) needs to be stopped. These places don't offer a bacon breakfast burrito and add another $6 just to add bacon. That's ridiculous, no one should pay $18 for a burrito with just cheese, egg and potato. They know they can charge more if they don't include bacon or sausage and act like adding 2 slices of bacon is worth $6 (the same price as a whole pack of bacon from the store. The lattes here are so goooooood!! I ordered the coconut latte and I really like the coconut flakes that were added in. The richness of the coffee was perfectly balanced to me, and I didn't think it was too sweet. My friend and I sat at the outdoor tables, and brought her dog along with us. Terrible service, when it took 15 minutes to take our order, we should have left. We were a party of 6, seated outside. Our waitress basically forgot about us. She was working inside and cutting fruit all at the same time. Took 22 minutes to get our order, people around us were getting their food before us. Brought out the plates 2 at a time, my son's were last to get their food which then made ours warm. Our waitresses green shirt was all wet and dirty, very unappealing when serving our food. I had to go in to get our bill and go boxes. S120 of food with no manager to speak with and our waitress didn't care. Daily Grind never disappoints! This isn't my first time here, and I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review. The food is always good, served hot and they are very accommodating to food preferences. The breakfast burrito was large and I usually get the pancakes because they are soooo fluffy and buttery. Literally like it's from a movie. The service is fast, attentive, receptive and kind. All of the waitresses are genuinely interested in getting to know little things about you while dining. We talked about my water bottle for a good two minutes lol!! The restaurant is quaint and cute, the outside has umbrellas over every table which is convenient and is able to sit a lot of people on bench like seats. Totally agree on service. I've sat & waited 20 minutes after sitting down and only when I said hello to a server, "Oh, you haven't been helped yet!" . . .no, is this not your section? You've seen me sitting here for 20 min. I don't know what, if any, system they have, but it clearly doesn't work. The staff are largely always annoyed college-aged girls with attitudes. Also, their main side of home fries vary way too much in quality. Sometimes they are cut pretty fine and cooked well/crispy, and other times they are left too big, undercooked, not seasoned, and are gross. It's also not very cheap compared to other side down dinners that are not full of IG girls -- looking at you Madi on Adams Ave. I have been here at least 6 times, and maybe 2 were good. I keep trying because I do like the outdoor seating, their sandwiches were well made, and it's in my neighborhood. That said, I'm done going here. read more

Daily Grind Cafe is our go-to spot for breakfast or brunch. It's right down the road from us and it's affordable. Servers are very nice. They remember us since we go so often Food has been consistently yummy. I have always enjoyed their Crabby Benedict with well-done/extra crispy potatoes. Their corned beef hash and biscuits and gravy are good too! They do have a dedicated parking lot but it's a lil tight. If it's full I'd recommend parking on Amherst Street and walking over. read more

Unless you're a regular, seems they can serve themselves by going behind the counter to pour their own coffee, it's difficult to get served. Over the years my wife and have visited this restaurant. It's cleaned, yes cleaned up, a lot. However, service is still a challenge as it seems they never have enough staff. I sat at a table made eye contact several times with that look of can I just have coffee. After receiving nothing but a menu, water and set up I waited almost 15 mins watching and nothing. As I said, I've been here many times over the years and it seems like unless you're a regular it's not easy to get served OR as the two seniors did, I observed them and seen this many times before serve themselves, I was ignored. Today, however, was the death blow. The good: Outdoor seating is absolutely lovely and the coffee is good. The Daily Grind was a pleasant surprise and a locale I'd driven past for several years. What it lacks in curb appeal, it makes up for with great food, reasonable prices and charm. There was even entertainment in their outside courtyard the day I dropped my for breakfast. I order their pigs in a blanket and got enough delicious food that I couldn't eat it all. I had one of my three stuffed pancakes each day for breakfast over a three days period and enjoyed them each time. The restaurant is quaint, clean and simple. Their staff was attentive and courteous and it appeared to be a local favorite judging by the families and college crowd that filled the place while I dined there. A classic diner in the SDSU area. I came here on a Sunday morning and got seated right away. The service was on the slow side and not very attentive, but the workers were all nice. I got the California Omelette and subbed tomatoes for spinach, and it was good. The food took about 20 minutes to come out, so if you're in a rush for a quick bite, this is not the place. Be prepared to wait a bit for your food, but overall it's a nice breakfast spot. read more

I went in here thinking it was a coffee shop and I could sit down and get some work done, even better it was a whole cafe! There was a little lunch rush but the staff was super attentive and let me sit wherever I wanted. I had to jump straight into a zoom meeting but the server was so sweet and brought me a drink and a menu very quietly and made me feel so comfortable to order whenever I was ready. After my meeting I was finally able to order, but unfortunately all I had time for was a coffee. And the coffee was SOOO good. I wish I could've taken one to go, but I ordered a Vietnamese and those coffees are strong! I was able to glance over the menu and they had a variety of options, all affordable! I definitely need to come back to try the food. I noticed the server went home and I appreciated her for not hounding me on closing out my ticket with her since she was leaving. Once again, The Daily Grind on El Cajon Blvd confirmed my previous review. The food is still great, and the service has only improved. The staff is friendly and attentive, and they go above and beyond to make sure you have a good experience. My favorite dish is the Cali Benedict, and my wife enjoys the chilaquiles. My oldest daughter loves the Nutella waffle. We enjoy eating at the family-friendly courtyard, and our total bill for four people was $80. I've increased my rating to 5 stars because The Daily Grind is consistently excellent. read more
