Great bar connected to Fitzwillys. We strolled around town looking for a good bar stop and stumbled upon this little gem! The entire place is self seated and most of the space is taken up by a large circular bar, but there are a few tables/booths in front of the bar (some with individual TVs). We didn't eat but the menu featured a "create your own" baked macaroni dish with a lot of options- made me sad we had just eaten! I ordered a Manhattan made to perfection and a VERY generous size for relatively cheap. If we find our way back to the area, we would definitely go back, but with an appetite next time. Just a good, laid back, chill bar with a great beer selection, generous bartenders, and (appealingly, because we did not eat) a good food menu for a bar. read more

Extremely disappointed tonight. We have gone before and had such a great meal that we wanted to go back again. We ordered the same items and was so disappointed. The wedge salad was some greens on a plate with tomatoes and very very little bacon. The "crispy" onion rings were cold and anything but crispy. My margarita flatbread with balsamic glaze came without the glaze, mozzarella not melted and pizza was cold. Service was poor. One waitress for the entire place and it was crowded. On a Sunday night of a 3 day weekend I feel they needed to plan for a crowd and have more staff. Unfortunately we will not be back or recommend to others. read more

Buffalo wings are great. Nicely sized, crispy and an adequate amount of sauce (we chose medium spice and that was just right), but was lacking in ranch or blue cheese quantity for the number of wings we got. Cute hip place for a Friday dinner. The downstairs seating area is a bit weird in my opinion, it's too seclude somehow.

We were there on a busy Friday night and ordered drinks and a flat bread. We waited patiently for the flat bread and then asked our waitress what's the hold up because we had tickets for the Calvin Theater. A manager approached our table and assured us our flat bread will be right out and our second round of drinks were on the house. Elaine I couldn't agree with you more. We were a party of 6 that heard the entire interaction. Deb was rude and condescending to the staff. She raised her voice, swore and on her way out said, "I'm going to yelp the shit out of this place." I felt bad for her family because she was causing an unnecessary scene. We have been going to the Toasted Owl for years and have NEVER had poor service. The food is always good and the beer selection is always amazing. This place is relatively small and gets shoulder to shoulder on the weekends. There are plenty of TVs all around the circular bar but never any audio to go with it. Drinks are the same price as every where else about five a pop nothing out of the ordinary. Bartenders are solid and on top of their game, especially Subie, he is definitely the man and there is another bartender that has been there the past few months that is absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous (Despite being all set with being friendly because she gets hit on non stop, can't blame her). I just raised my rating to 4 stars solely because of her. The drawback are the meatballs that flock to this place because its one of the few places in town where some of the younger more attractive people congregate. Northamptons finest AKA NPD and other courthouse wannabe's are often sitting at the bar off duty drinking pints while simultaneously looking at their biceps. HAAAA!! True story! Every bone in my body wants to give this four or five stars but I'm trying to be honest here. This place does have a lot of nice things about it. HD TV's, great location, and bar tenders so hot that I would sell my grandmother to have a night with. But even pretty girls can't make up for the fact that this is an average bar at best. The beer selections is ok, the price of the food reflects the quality, and if you want to hear the people you are with you might as well just leave. If you're looking to get drunk and obnoxiously loud this is the place for you. On the other hand if you are looking for good drinks, good food, and a great time with your friends, you might want to look somewhere else. Northampton has more to offer. read more

We went to Fizwilly's for a Saturday lunch with my family, they were very busy and were encouraged by the manager of the Toasted Owl to come on over and have our lunch there, It seemed rather quiet when we were seated but filled with groups of patrons quickly. We were served our appetizers but it was down hill from there, we waited and finally three of our party of six were served their orders and we waited and waited for the rest of our orders, questioned the rather harried waitress several times and after about an hour or more we gave up as we had plans for the afternoon and asked to pay for what had been served. Very, very good pub fare food. Simple items done at a high quality level. Decor is nice, tv screens everywhere. If busy it gets crowded fast and the bartenders have to hustle to keep up. Fantastic recent news about The Toasted Owl!!! My husband and I have been going to The Toasted Owl for years, since they opened however long ago. We love the great window seats, and the food is pretty good (especially the boneless chicken - definitely best in town), and the beer selection (which is of utmost importance to us) was always somewhat spotty. They always had Sierra Nevada Pale Ale as well as Dogfish 60, which would do us just fine, and occasionally even a LaGunitas. However, recently they stopped having anything we liked, so we stopped going. HOWEVER, last week we noticed they had a sandwich board on the sidewalk that read something like "28 craft brews," so we had to see what the situation was. To our delight, they had completely revamped the taps! Not a Bud or Bud Light in sight! And to boot, they had an ACCURATE list including ABVs and descriptions! This is something that not many other spots in town have been able to accomplish! This is going to become one of our favorite weekly spots again. I always enjoy coming here. I consider The Toasted Owl and Fitzwilly's as one and the same since they are attached and open to each other.. It is a great place for a drink and appetizers. The food is always consistent, bar food meets trying to be more upscale. If your there to watch a game there are ample screens for that or you can go into the dining areas and be away from the bar. When it is busy, which is often, the service can be slow but it is always worth a stop in. read more

This is a clean, pleasant space on Main St with standard pub fare, a full bar, and several TV screens. Nothing special in terms of what it offers. The only thing The Toasted Owl stands out for in my mind is the extremely off-putting clientele. Both times I stepped in for a drink I found crowds of very loud, obnoxious frat boy and sorority types (or wannabes), rowdy jocks in their 20s and 30s, and heavily made-up women drinking neon-colored cocktails and acting ditsy. I guess it's good to have a place for that crowd in Northampton, a town of hipsters, hippies, and humanities professors and grad students. But those unfamiliar with the bars in town should know what to expect here. Definitely not my scene! read more

I was wandering downtown, looking for a place to watch the Red Sox game and stumbled across the Toasted Owl. They have a good variety of beers on tap (at decent prices) and a fine selection of liquor. As a woman, I am accustomed to having a difficult time getting decent service from other female bartenders, but my service at the bar was excellent, if not as flirtatious as the male regulars who surrounded me, my requests for more beer, food, check, etc were met promptly and with smiles. I had the Irish Nachos which were yummy. Overall, I just liked the vibe, it was very relaxed and open and friendly, but not TOO friendly, no one was begging for my life story or telling me theirs. I visited Toasted Owl today for cocktails and snacks and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience there. Though the food is simple, I found it satisfying and well prepared. The portion of nachos was huge and had ample cheese and other accouterments. The boneless wings were big and delicious, and the baked ziti was simple and hearty. The staff was friendly, and the beer selection was adequate for what we were looking for. Though we didn't watch any TV, I was excited to see a small flat screen at the booth. This place was not the worst ever, although it lacks atmosphere, drinks are weak and service is slow (one bartender on a busy Saturday night). One thing turned me off the most though: very unfriendly bouncer who seemed to want to make sure to scare away future costumers. I went outside to say goodbye to my friends, and left my boyfriend and my drink inside. While I was talking to my friends outside, the bouncer came out and asked if we had anything inside because they close the door at 1 am. I told him my boyfriend and drink were inside and I will be right back. I was at the door literally few minutes after 1 am. The door was, of course, closed. I tried calling my boyfriend but he was not picking up the phone (he did not hear it) and I was stranded outside, wondering what to do. I saw the bouncer inside, looking at me with the corner of his eye, then quickly looking away, pretending not seeing me standing there, on my phone, clearly trying to get in touch with the company inside. Then, two guys were coming out, so I just walked in. I sat next to my boyfriend, finished my drink. The overly eager bouncer had to approach me, and yell at me for "sneaking in". I just sat there and listened to his tirade about how I committed unspeakable crime by coming into bar two minutes after 1. He then walked away, and I finished my drink quickly, swearing to never come back to this unfriendly place. I understand that he could not let new people in, but people that were already in the bar should be allowed to come back (I also had a stamp on my hand). Plus, I was already there and he could just let it go, instead of going out of his way to yell at me, which was not changing anything at this point. Toasted Owl staff should understand that this place is for people and sometimes you just need to chill, and be respectful, in order for people to come back there. I know I won't. read more
