Has an assortment of loaded toast options (savory and sweet) and also healthy smoothie bowls. Here's what I tried: 1. Avocado smash toast: crispy toast layered with thick avocado spread, cherry tomatoes. Greens, and thin radish slices just drizzled with olive oil. Soooo good. Must try. 2. PBB bowl: an açaí bowl with blueberries, bananas, nuts, and chocolate bites drizzled with peanut butter. This was my favorite. Wish they can make this at equinox. Perfect for after workout. On a hot summer day, Toastique is a nice place to visit and cool down. I wish I got the name of our cashier because she was very sweet and patient. I'm very indecisive and took a bit of time to decide which açaí bowl to get, but thankfully, they had many add-in options. I got the dragonberry with peanut butter mixed in and cacao nibs. They have a small sign in front of the register that says that their granola contains nuts, and I am allergic to tree nuts (walnuts, cashews, almonds) but not regular peanuts (like in peanut butter). I informed the cashier and she went to check what kind of nuts were in the granola, and she came back and said they actually had a gluten free (GF) granola option that contains no nuts! Overall, the Dragonberry bowl hit the spot for a not too overly sweet treat on a hot day. The açaí mixed with the peanut butter was a good choice. The summer peach smoothie wasn't my favorite, but it was my husband's choice and he really enjoyed it. The flavor itself isn't bad but the maple syrup threw me off a bit. My only "big" issue was the wait time for receiving the order. We were using this opportunity to sit and rest in the AC so it wasn't a huge problem for us, but the two items took 15-20 minutes to come out. Though we had the time to wait, we were the only ones who ordered in person at the time (unless they were receiving called in orders, not sure how they work for pick up), and waited quite awhile for our order. Crazy bad service at this location. First, we walked in and were the only people in the store. The young woman working the front completely ignored us until my wife asked loudly if we could order. The worker then walked to the register. I saw the speciality drink "Seafoam Latte" and thought it looked cool, so I ordered it. I even pointed to the picture. What I got vs what it should have looked like were 180 (see photos). Presentation counts and this definitely did not score. I think the counter person would rather have been elsewhere. I watched her when the next couple of people ordered and all she could do was look out the window rather than pay much attention to what the people were saying. On top of that. Fantastic morning visit to Toastique on Balboa Island this morning. The ambience was a nice fresh transition from the old Starbucks that was in this location before. The service was excellent with polite and friendly staff who helped to change the toast options we wanted for our Avocado Smash's (to gluten free and sourdough). They helped us order a side of fruit and nondairy milk to accommodate food allergies too. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. You can tell they take pride in the experience and quality of food and drinks they serve. Even the bathroom was clean and refreshed before and during our visit. We've been here twice on the weekend and had the same experience. Our matcha latte was made without telling us it's ready as we sat there waiting for 25 min. It took 15 min to make. We came back once to ask when it'd be ready, and the worker rolled her eyes saying she would now get to it because they're so busy. I don't remember her name but she was shorter with dark long hair. They also didn't put the honey in it that we asked for and when I asked her to remake it because it's cold and didn't have honey her response was "I did put honey in it" in an annoyed voice. Then our food was made and they didn't tell us either so we sat waiting. They also missed the added avocado we paid for. We had to go back and request it and add it ourselves. I visited Toastique for their grand opening since they were giving away credit for a future purchase for the first 100 customers! This was honestly only the second time in my adult life that I have been to Balboa Island despite being 20 minutes away from it. But really there's not too much to try out there so I shouldn't be too hard on myself. I did know from my previous experience that parking on the island can be very tricky. However since I got there before 8 AM, I had no trouble finding a spot. But it was starting to get busy on the street after 8 AM (it was a Saturday). I was not first in line so I had to wait a bit. It did take a good amount of time to get to the front, but it was everyone's first time eating there so I wasn't surprised. On a normal day, I am sure the line will be much shorter and there won't be much of a wait. There were a few places to sit inside and out, but not enough for more than say 15 people at a time. I of course had to get a gourmet toast, and I went with the Tomato Buratta because I am such a sucker for anything burrata. I also got a free juice because I had just signed up for the app. I got very lucky their seasonal juice was a watermelon-based one, as the rest of their options had either orange or cucumber, both of which I do not care for. It was to be expected that the prices for this place would be a bit steep because it is trying to be fancier, but I still could not believe the juices were $9 and the smoothies were $10. Apparently, that price is normal for smoothies on the island, but it was a shock to me. I barely had time to wash my hands before I got my toast, and I was very pleased with how fast everything was there after I ordered. The toast and the toppings for the most part were excellent! I loved the burrata especially, and everything tasted quite fresh. The bread was a bit tough to cut through considering the compostable knife given to me, but I was still able to make it work. The watermelon juice I got was also good, though I would not pay for it. However there is one thing I do want to bring up, and I was a bit disappointed that nothing could be done. As I mentioned the bread was a bit tough and all I had were the compostable utensils given to me. I was being pretty forceful with things and accidentally took a strong bite down on my fork and part of a tong broke off. This does happen with anything resembling plastic, and thankfully I found the small piece that broke off. As I was dining in, I figured that I could get a metal knife and fork to replace the flimsy ones I was using. However, when I asked a staff member for metal utensils, they asked around and came back to me that all they had were the compostable ones. While I was okay with it and took a new fork, it does slightly upset me that just because the forks and knives they have are "compostable" (I have heard mixed things about these types of materials actually being compostable), they do not feel the need to use reusable utensils. Reusable will always be better than single-use, and while it is impossible to avoid with to-go orders, dine-in orders give restaurants the choice of what to use. I hope they eventually get some metal utensils to make cutting the toast a breeze! Besides that little mishap, I enjoyed my time at Toastique and will be returning soon to try out their other flavors of toast! read more

Normally would not post a negative review but after going there for the special cinnamon toast being told they weren't doing any toast anymore that day (90 mins before they closed), paying $10 for smoothies and $14 for açaí bowls (special treat), it taking more than 30 mins, with one request of the nut free granola - and getting an açaí bowl with almonds, the owner being really pissy and basically telling us it's our problem that it's taking so long and that we received the wrong order (sorry you had more working behind the counter than customers) - I felt compelled to write a review. So many of the stores are welcoming and want people coming in. Felt bad for the kids working there and thought they should work at one of the other stores instead.
