I'm a hypocrite. I don't like cigarettes. Yuck. But I dig Shisha (though I only smoke it like 5 times a year) because, unlike cigarettes (in my opinion)... Shisha tastes good. It smells good. It can be a bonding experience (though I guess taking a drag in freezing/hot/well any kind of weather with your smoking posse could also be considered bonding) And it's a pain to set up. In a good way. See the Jessica T. equation - Pain to set up = I rarely set it up....... rarely set it up = less shisha time........Less shisha time = less toxins...... Less toxins = much healthier and happier Jessica T. Anyways... Getting back to the reason why Tobacco Barn deserves four stars While hookah pipes are fun, if you don't use the right coals for the pipe, you'll be blowing on black turd looking coals for nearly half an hour, just trying to get the hookah party started. So, I was pumped to discover the other day that Tobacco Barn carries sweet silver magic coals, that make the hookah lighting process SOOOO much easier. Yay. The staff at Tobacco Barn are also pretty cool. They're nice, straightforward, and know what they're talking about. (I think) Oh but easier lighting processes aside, I'm going to continue to stick to my "five times a year" Shisha schedule. (oh and please note you can buy hookahs here, but it is not a hookah bar) Wouldn't want to mess around with the tried and true Jessica T. equation. read more

Tobacco Barn has very few cigars but they have everything else.related to smoking and inhaling in sight. got a friendly greeting when i entered. i was too focused on the 'gars to acknowkedge. 'gars in humidors less than a dozen names. no maduros. lots of fancy blown glassware seen. didn't want to go near them. i'm such a fumble finger guy. Bill's the man. Came here for the 1st time for some ejuice and left with exactly what I was looking for. Bill, the owner, was very welcoming and helpful and even introduced himself, as Bill. The store itself is well kept and has a good selection of all things "Tabacco" related from pipes, vapes, hookahs, e-cigs and everything between. My partner and I visited Tobacco Barn last evening to our delight. The staff were outgoing, friendly and very knowledgeable about their merchandise. We purchased three walking sticks or staff depending how you say it. The staffs were made from the root of sassafras trees and beautifully crafted. The array of eclectic merchandise in the shop caused one to want to stop and spend time browsing around. I highly encourage anyone who is walking up and down Polk either before or after going to dinner or out for a drink to stop into this wonderful little shop. You will not be disappointed. Recently I purchased my first Hookah system, but only had some flavored molasses to try it out with. After reading the Yelp reviews and being recommended to this place by a friend, I decided to check it out after work. Despite being in the tenderloin, the shop is brightly lit, clean and well organized. The shopkeeper immediately pointed me towards a fine selection of sheesha tobaccos and hookah accessories. He recommended his preferred brand for double apple, and some quality instant light coals. Overall I felt confident in his recommendations, and I was was satisfied with my purchases. This place it great. Usually I feel kinda grungy and gross walking into a head shop, but this place is downright homey feeling. Definitely "your friendly neighborhood smoke shop". The biggest reason for this is the storekeeper Bill. He's not the usual burnout type who usually tend these types of stores. I've had many interesting conversations with him about history, his family, and the world. He is an incredibly nice person who loves I talk if you want to talk but isn't one of those people who will pin you down and not let you leave. Also his cat misha is very very cute and friendly! One day I happened to mention a very specific item which they didn't sell ... they immediately insisted on picking it up somewhere ; i had it the next week and I'm still using this "high-stand" ash tray which I feel I almost robbed from them for what I paid... These guys have been in the same spot in the TL for at least six years - a local fixture of fine smoking equipment. I used to frequent the place five or six years ago and the staff was always very friendly. I went back yesterday after a lengthy hiatus (due to moving several times), and they have recently remodeled the interior of their store. On top of that, they now have a much more extensive selection of unique and beautiful pipes than any of the other Polk St. Smoke shops. Some of the beautiful pipes include a frosty cobalt design with glossy sacred geometry pattern, Hawaiian volcanic rock dipped in 22kt gold, glass pipes with sections of burnished/oxidized bronze and embedded with a crystal, and clear pipes filled with liquid and iridescent glitter that you can freeze for ice cold shmokin. I can be kind of a diva about what I want to smoke out of, and this place satisfies. If you want a unique, gorgeous pipe, there's no need to navigate the touristy crowds in the Haight - stop by this TL gem and they will hook you up! read more

This place is pretty cool. They have lots of good hookah accessories as well as glass pieces (for the 420 friendly heads). They've also got a small selection of cigars (not enough to satisfy a serious cigar smoker though). The staff there are cool and are always willing to answer any questions you have. All in all not a bad little neighborhood smoke shop but not anything I'd leave my area to visit either. read more

you ever get the feeling you've just entered a fake store front for a mafia money laundering place? that's what i feel like everytime i step in here. it's sort of dark, they're always full stocked of smokes & hookas & 420 tools...and there's always like 4 or 5 guys smoking with cheap italian suits on. and their always talking in their language, arabic i'm guessing, and i feel like whenever i ask for a pack of marlboro lights, i'm bothering their meeting, and i'm gonna get squished like a bug. i sweat when i'm in here... good prices on smokes though. read more

So my moms sister and I have been coming here for years, moms and my sister for their cigarettes and for my glass pieces. tobacco Barn is honestly the best smoke shop in the tenderloins and I always go in for a peak when I visit the TL. A very nice selection of handblown and well known glass brands as well as a few cheaper products for your novice toker. Unlike other pipe and tobacco shops in the TL who just try and push anything and everything onto you and tell you its a good price, the friendly staff will help you find exactly what it is you are looking for and are very knowledgeable about the products they are selling. I walked in and asked for what they had made from California!! I was pleasantly surprised with the pipes they had!! There was a was a warm fuzzy when you walked in! They have everything you need even pocket knives!! It was definitely worth the 4.8 mile bike ride I took!! They had a phenomenal selection of goodies!! I was able to fin a new friend to add to my collection!! Makes pipe 70 been collecting for a while!! I saw the most amazing pipe. It was similar to my Alabama pipe I got in shape! But holy hell was the glass absolutely mind blowing!! This is gonna be a piece that sticks out!!! Plus to top it all off I Was given a free pipe case!! Holy shit blew my mind!! It wS super awesome of him to give me a free pipe case!! Had a nice padding and clip that to hang it plus a little stash pocket zip!! But walking out of any place with a free gift is phenomenal!! I have become regular customer here, and highly recommend their native nectar juice, it is on par with premium juices and I would compare them to any premium on vaperev.
