A group of us went on saturday and the wines and service were TOP NOTCH! I really can't say enough about how perfect the entire experience was. The servers were very educated in thier wines (and wines in general) which isn't always the case when visiting other tasting rooms. The location was cozy and very inviting. We wandered into this place on our first day in Solvang after a bad experience at a far more touristy place. We were pleasantly surprised by the great atmosphere, very cool wine server and the people in the place. Two wine pourers from other places were tasting there after they got off work, whcih tells you something. I only like red wine and was not dissapointed here. They are a sister winery to Lucas & Lewellen Vineyards Tasting Room, which is just down the street. If you go to one or the other after, you get half off or your tasting, which is cool. read more

We had seen Mandolina on our previous visits to Solvang but usually wrote them off as just another tasting room. Eventually we decided to try them out; Italian-style wines plus a really adorable storefront grabbed our attention. We joined the wine club on our very first visit and have yet to be disappointed. The wine club either sends you both white and red (our selection), just reds, or just whites. I believe there's also an option for two bottles or three bottles per shipment. So I went to this place months ago. I went down with my family and newborn baby. I only thought about reviewing this place up until now because I was reminiscing about Solvang's danishes then I remembered the horrible experience with this place. But clearly with most of your reviews this isn't anything new. There are two elderly Caucasian ladies that literally stand there judging you as soon as you walk in. It's funny cause before I went inside my parents walked in ahead of me with my son, who then started crying while I was taking a phone call. The two ladies didn't notice I was with them. While both my parents were attending my son, I look over at the two ladies looking at each other with such annoyance. Like excuse you ma'm, don't act like you haven't heard a baby cry before in all of your 100 years. Anyways, just like everyone else they just wanted us out as quickly as possible, except it was dead there and there was no reason for it. I am very much a wine novice. At 25 years old, I am still developing a palate for it. I enjoy wine tasting becuase I like to sample all different kinds of wine and hopefully learn a thing or two as well. What I do know about wine, is all about dessert wines. I have a palate that loves all things sweet so I am naturally drawn to muscats, ice wines, Sauternes, Royal Tokaij, and sparkling wines. After wine tasting at Lucas & Lewellen, we walked around the corner to Mandolina, hearing they offered a sweet wine list as well. I was excited because so few wineries do. We literally had 20 minutes until our dinner reservation and let the hostess know immediately. Rather than getting frustrated, she enthusiastically assured us that it was no problem. We pounded out the 5 wines in about 15 minutes and bought a bottle as well. Overall I liked the wines better than those at Lucas & Lewellen. We had a lot of fun at both shops though, and would do it again. read more

Three people behind the wine bar and no one seemed to deliver attentive, "we care about you" service. Tommy and Bonny, you seem sweet but absent minded to people who would love to indulge in your wine. Current members but not thinking of ditching. No situational awareness to others. Pros: Unique Wines: Most varietals are from Italian grapes and not the boring Syrah/ Merlot you get at most tasting rooms in the area. Good Wines: Tried the "traditional" tasting and was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of all their wines (and I know my wines). Value: $8 is pretty reasonable for a tasting and you get 50% off the tasting at their sister store a block away. Cons: Scene: You aren't at the winery and there isn't too much too look at in the room. Overall: Definitely worth a visit if you're in the mood for tasting. read more

I wasn't too sure about Italian wines, but since it was half off after visiting L&L down the street, we thought we might as well. Good thing though because this is fast becoming one of our favorite Solvang wine tasting rooms. Judy, the person that helped us, was such a sweetie. Getting carded is never fun but she made it into a joke so that was a first. At this point in the wine tasting adventure, I don't clearly remember what was on the flight list but we did come home with a bottle of Malvasia Bianca and it was only 8/ flight. The atmosphere was fun, the wines weren't so bad and overall, I think both L&L and Mandolina had great quality wines. Even if this is my first time on a wine tasting excursion and still developing my palate, I know that the service makes a huge difference on my experience so five stars to Mandolina. read more

Loved this tasting, I've been here twice now in the same month and I did the sweet wine tasting ($15). They let two people share a tasting too which is really convenient if your tolerance is low (or on a budget). If I could review this tasting room I would give it zeros, why because the older women working behind the counter did not seem interested in presenting their selection of wines! It seems like only a selection of ethnicity is welcomed. Today, my friends and I went in for a tasting and it seemed like the older women were bothered by our presence. My friends and I left to try another tasting room. We decided to return to this tasting room to make a purchase, not just one but two bottles of wine. Also like the other tasting rooms, I explained the types of wine we prefer, but unlike the others, I wasn't offered a taste here. However, the lady who helped me did her best to accommodate our tastes and offered me the barbera at a discounted price. It was much less expensive than the other bottles I had picked up already so I decided to give it a chance. We finally found the occasion to open the bottle this weekend and it wasn't bad but wasn't our favorite either. I typically do not write reviews, but this experience was so bad that I have to share. I am amazed that others have had a GREAT experience here, maybe we came on an off day. the 4 of us walked into the Tasting Room and were NOT greeted at all, no welcome, no acknowledgement. The first thing that was asked quite rudely is to show our ID's (we are all near or over 30!)...its fine to ask, but it was done in such a RUDE manner that automatically put is off. Then the ladies behind the counter poured our wines without ANY explanations besides what the wine was (which we can read ourselves). There was NO passion, NO friendliness, just two bitchy women that made us feel like they were doing US some sort of a favor. We were polite, but visibly bothered by the experience. The wines were actually DELICIOUS. So thats why it really SUCKS that the service was so horrendous. They just seemed like they wanted us out of there for some reason. We were not causing any problems, not loud, just 4 people trying to enjoy great wine and learn about the winery. In the end I think one of the women finally sensed our discontent and just told us the fees are on her and when I asked WHY she just said: Don't worry about it, you are good. OKAY....so I guess we were just such awful customers? I don't understand it, it is so easy to provide a smile and generous service to people and it seemed like an absolute CHORE to them. The wines are very good, but the service isn't that great. I took my sister and husband there yesterday, and the lady serving us was very cold, and snobby. I've been there before, and the servers were more friendly, although it took them about five minutes to serve me. Like I was invisible. Toccata had my favorite wines in Solvang, and the tasting gals (Kelly and Bonnie) are really serving some quick wit and charm. We came back to Toccata just to get a little more Bonnie in our lives before we came back to LA. All of the tasting flights were delicious, and we were sampling from almost every one. Left this place with a nice mix of decently priced Moscato di Santa Barbara, Malvasia Bianca, and more. Can't wait to return. read more

We have belonged to this winery for about 5 years I believe. We came here back in the day when it was Mandolina winery. Run by the fine folks of Lucas & Lewellen who already make some of the best wine in Solvang this place seems to offer a lot of very sweet & light varieties which is why we became members! We receive a shipment once every couple months and always get great wine! The tasting room is cozy and adorable and has cute wine country tchotchkes for the buying. All in all a solid stop while in town for tasting and a perfect way to remind you of your trip once you get home is to join the wine club. read more

This winery has an amazing collection of wines, over 22 varieties in all! They have three lines: Lucas and Lewellen, Mandolina and Queen of Hearts. The Queen of Hearts is their more affordable line. The Mandolina is all Italian varieties, some so obscure you will not find them outside of Italy. The perk is that they are all estate grown grapes by L&L vineyards right in Santa Barbara County. I have enjoyed all their wines because they are very smooth and complex. I am a club member as well. I enjoy their many wine club member events and the wide variety of wines I have been introduced to. I served L&L wine exclusively for my wedding. My 200 guests all raved about the wine...many of them snagging bottles to take home. Bravo! read more

Best wines in the Santa Ynez valley come from Lucas and Lewellen's vineyard! Toccata wines are amazing. Try the Moscato de Santa Barbara, the Sangiovese and the Freisa just as examples... You will be very happy with the choices. They have 4 different types of tastings, the all reds is the favorite, but all of the choices are wonderful. Cindy, Bonnie and Susan who work the wine room are absolutely amazing. Fun and happy personalities to go along with all that wine knowledge. Ok, if you are in Solvang and only have time for one tasting room then Tocatta is the place to stop. The reds gotta go with the Riserva - an excellent blend. For the whites the Pinot Grigio is a nice solid meal friendly wine. To be honest we did not have a single wine we'd turn away. Toccata, or do you mean horrible rude service! Santa Ynez had a Passport event, that included 15 different wineries and this winery by far had the worst staff. Two women were working, and one women with short hair seemed drunk and refused to serve us for we can begin our wine tasting. So, the other women came and we begin tasting the wine, but she rushed us and did not allow us to enjoy of wine tasting experience. The wine was pretty good, but the quality of service was so bad, I would never go back there! read more

It was super crowded, and we could only get a small place at the end of the bar. The wine was okay, but the noise really did detract from the experience. Such a great experience with John at this Italian tasting house. I wasn't a fan of the first wine (Pinot Grigio) but he was very persistent in narrowing down my interests and finally got me to a bottle I loved (2011 Sangiovese). Towards the end of my tasting, Bonnie joined in to help me out and they were both so knowledgable about wine and passed on wine tips. We really liked this tasting room. Not only did they have great wine but one of the ladies had excellent knowledge of their wine and was very friendly, we felt right at home. She went out of her way to also provide a list of her favorite places to dine around the area, one of which was the Hadsten House, and we were sooo glad to have met her as this restaurant was exactly what we were looking for.
