Solvang has plenty of wine tasting rooms but aside from the deeply disappointing Solvang brewery there aren't too many beer sports. Yelp found Valley Brewers and I was a little hesitant since it was classified mostly as home brewing shop. While it is indeed that their front area is a huge retail area with tons of great finds, not just from California but nationwide. I ended up speaking with Sandy one of the owners and found out they have a small taproom in the back through a secret door. Members only but after speaking with her she let me in for free. You can bring in your purchases from the front but they have a great selection of beers in their dozen or so taps. There was a period of time that I would make the drive up from LA to hang out there and bring beer. What kind of person brings beer to a beer shop? Good question and the answer is: plenty. There are a bunch of local/regulars and they definitely come in for the same reason I do, a nice laid back spot for people that enjoy beer. I've been welcomed with samples that others have brought in, an impromptu friendly bottle share with people who obviously love beer but in a way that's super fun and not pretentious. I seriously considered moving to Solvang just I could be a regular too. read more

Small brew store located in the downtown Solvang area offering a pretty good craft beer selection available in bottles and cans. Chris was great. Exremely helpful. He also runs the attached tap room, The Backroom. In addition to beer, they also have home brew kits. merchandise, and growlers available for the sale. Only con was that they did not have a license to fill growlers. We had our hopes on filling a couple of growlers of the Berline Weiss they had on tap (Absofruitly Guava) to return home with. If I'm ever in the area again, I'm definitely coming back. read more

My wife and I had taken our boy, Geno, on our first family vacation to Solvang because the town in general is very dog friendly; he went everywhere with us! Someone gave the business 2 stars due to the homebrew side. While I understand their issue of paying more for ingredients I'm guessing the store pays more to have them delivered... This place is very nice. They have a really cool home brew and wine making supplies shop, and in the back through a secret bookcase, you go into the wine/beer tap room with a great ambience. The owner is very nice and helpful. They are very knowledgeable about brewing. I highly recommend talking with them if you are planning to do any of those hobbies- including Mead making! read more

Location / Ambiance: From the outside this store front appears to be a beer making supply store, however there is a secret entrance behind a fake bookshelf that opens up to a tasting room. The tasting room has a speakeasy feel to it with a small seating area that leads to a small bar. There is also a outside patio area where there is plenty of additional seating. Decor: The lighting fixtures are interesting, they used edison bulbs encased in chemistry beakers afixed to galvanized pipes. On the left wall facing the bar is a modern chalkboard type menu featuring all their taps. The right wall is the same style with an illustration and fun facts of some sort. Drinks: The bar has a healthy amount of taps ranging from IPAs, Sours, Stouts, Brow Ales, and Coffee blends. It appears the brewers that they carry are mostly from California. I tried quite a few beers I don't remember all of there names but my favorite was their nitro coffee blend. Overall: I would highly recommend this place if you like to beer taste. They did a really good job with their bar build, it's a cool place to take your buddies to throw a couple back and play some cards or just enjoy the beautiful California sun. read more

Friendly people and very active in the local brew scene. They even get some big names to come and do talks. The store also does brew demos where you can learn a lot. They have lots if supplies and are always willing to help me tweak a recipe, or if you want they have home brew kits they put together with all the ingredients you need. read more

SUPER helpful people. My girlfriend and I went in to get some equipment and supplies before we brewed our first batch of mead, and Chris must have spent half an hour walking us through various products and giving advice. When they turned out to be out of bottle cappers, the lady behind the counter pulled one out of the back somewhere instead of telling us to come back some other time. They were both very friendly and happy to share their expertise. Prices were comparable to what we could find online, too. We'll be back. read more

So I happened to be passing through from Santa Barbara to Monterey ... When in Solvang I did what everyone does ... buy Danish pastries... Few blocks away I find this awesome place... Valley Brewers ! As I walked inside, I was greeted by Sandy and another gentleman whom I forgot his name.The small showroom had a cool feel with brewing magazines, beer , cheese and wine making swag. "Theres more cool stuff downstairs" said Sandy and the other gentleman. I walked downstairs to find everything you need to home brew your own beer. After a few minutes of browsing I had a ton of questions as I have never made beer before. They were more than happy to assist me with a starter kit and answer all my questions without overloading my noggin. I would recommend this place if your new to the hobby... thinking about... or if you are an established home craft brewer. They have grains ... hopps..yeast strains and equipment that you need.They are super friendly and willing to help a newcomer like myself who has no idea how to make beer. They also have a hidden tap room to sample other craft beer from the area. Just head past the book case wall (yes the book case wall will lead way to a cool beer lounge) wink wink .. lol I will definitely be returning for some more stuff and to pick someone's brain About the art of making fine craft beer. Just came in here to get some coffee and mango tea on tap! I love how they don't put sugar on the mango tea, it has this amazing taste. My hubby bought a beer called Bixby Blonde, and according to him tasted really good. May just come back here again for another. We also love their dog named "Basil", soo cute.
