This father and son team has saved me three times!! Honest and affordable service. A few weeks ago, it was raining in my hallway (air handler is in the attic). Turns out our condensation line was clogged, and because of poor design, it was overflowing into my main floor ceiling. They blew it out and fixed it. They recommended that a new one should be installed because of the length and design of the one that we had (former homeowners) because it would likely give us problems every few years. Instead of upselling us and giving us a ridiculous quote for them to do it, he explained how we could save money by running it ourselves. Then this weekend, our AC stopped working (because of the extreme heat). During the initial inspection, I had no issues with their service. The technician diagnosed my outside unit with an error code and explained that they could not complete the inspection until the appropriate repairs were made. Once those repairs were completed, I contacted them to request that they return to finish the portions of the inspection that were not completed. When I called, I asked if this was Todd Air Inc., and someone in the background responded, "It could be." The gentleman on the phone then stated that I should have contacted my home warranty company instead of calling them directly, rather than politely explaining that this was the correct process. If contacting the warranty company first is required, I completely understand. However, the tone, customer service, and lack of professionalism during this interaction were disappointing--especially for a business that works directly with customers. The team quickly came out to diagnose an issue I was having with my HVAC. They were prompt and relatively easy to schedule with.

My HVAC bit the dust in the middle of the night, and the guys from Todd Air kindly came out the next day to diagnose the issue and write me a quote for the necessary replacement. They were super professional, explained the problem thoroughly, and gave me all the necessary details to think about when choosing a replacement (they were also quite nice about my idiotic inability to turn on the emergency heat). It was obvious they wanted not just to provide me a service but to help me better understand my heating system. This company is contracted via my home warranty company. Usually the company calls to schedule after I make a claim, they did not. So, I called them a few days later. Making an appointment was easy. The tech called on the day of asking to come earlier, I declined. My window was 12-4. He called at 3p to confirm my location. When I told him I didn't live at the apartments but at the condos, he refused to service me. I told him I owned my property and it looks like townhomes, he still refused. Apparently they only service certain types of AC units. Interesting... I immediately called my warranty company and informed them. They flagged the company. I was then reassigned to another vendor and scheduled for the next day. After reading the reviews here, I'm learning that their "okie doke" service is standard for them. Either they refuse or they play dumb. I have no time for an unethical company so thank goodness he refused the service. read more

These guys are fantastic! They were the second company the insurance sent out because the first company made our broken AC problem worse. They came out assessed and identified the issue immediately on the first day. Once our insurance company approved the repairs they made those repairs, and addressed some other underlying issues after. I don't usually take the time I should to write reviews, whether my experience was good or bad. However, I have to say my interaction with this company was stellar. I called on a Sunday just to leave a message requesting to schedule an appt, and knowing they were closed, I didn't expect a call back until a weekday. I was promptly called Sunday evening and scheduled to have them come look at my heater Monday, which had gone out on Saturday. Brrrrrr.... They were prompt in their window time frame, quick to diagnose and advised they had to order the part. Two days later, the part was in and they came out that day to install. They were referred to me through my home warranty, but I will call them in the future should I need any help with my HVAC, with or without my warranty. Company works for the warranty industry whenever a repair needs to be done at the home, biased toward NOT honoring warranty and are manipulated to not perform repairs (if you call them under warranty terms and conditions of your property, in this case property management under Long and Foster) The following are their usual catchy (we are not going to do anything to your AC) lines; - "There is nothing for me to fix, I am sorry" - "It is normal to pay that amount on electric bill, it is very expensive in MD" - "You are having issues because you leave the doors closed, you need to leave the doors open" - "There is nothing I can do for you, I don't know how do you want me to help you" - "Its feels cold, your AC is working" My lease is running through Long and Foster of Annapolis property management. I complained about the high electric bill, the amount of time AC unit stays on to cool the air and the unbearable temperatures on the second floor of our condo. L&F called Todd Air and within 24 hours they were on site to verify the unit. For the record, both technicians are called Danny T. So we will go with the older and younger Todd Air technicians. Without me saying a word they tell me they have been at the place before and they had put Freon and nothing else was needed. I asked them where is the invoice from July, still today I am waiting from L&F and from Todd Air copy of the invoice. I also showed them a estimate from Blue Dot performed around July, and they said impossible, and I told them look at the date, it was at the beginning of July this year. He looked at the estimate, read that Blue Dot had found a Freon leak in the system and recommended either replace or repair the unit. Todd Air technicians, both argued the document and said Blue Dot does not know what they are talking about, the findings are incorrect. The younger tech said the issue was bad vent design pushing air INTO the rooms. (The Blue Dot tech explained that is the return and has no effect on volume of air pumped into the rooms) Todd Air conclusion, without using any tools and taking any readings whatsoever, their conclusion was I need to leave all the doors open for proper flow of air. I explained we have placed a fan pointing up the stairs and one at the door of each room and still the heat is unbearable mostly at night. The younger guy said it is impossible that can happen because its cooler. He has no idea about basic science, convection and radiation, how the materials on the home absorb heat during the day and at night heat transfers from the walls and surfaces as the temperatures gets cooler. Todd Air invoice description of work: "No mechanical failure. upstairs is hot due to poor ducting and customer keeps all doors closed and there is only one central air return." All in all, Danny T. and Danny T. did not checked the unit using the provided air conditioner tools, ignored my concerns about the high electric bill and stated Blue Dot had no clue what they were talking about and there is no Freon leak. Todd Air did not test for leaks, after showing them the findings from BD company. Case closed, unit is fine according to the technical knowledge of Todd Air Danny T and Danny T junior. *** Moving forward... Blue Dot shows up two hours after, Peter P., asked what were my concerns as to why the service call. Explained the situation, same as I did with TA. Blue Dot technician took out all panels and surveyed the unit overall, he even called me to show what could be wrong. Explained in detail how the air flows, incoming and outgoing of air (Todd Air was incorrect about how the runners to each rooms are designed). Peter took out his calibrated Freon check tool, also showed when it was last calibrated within a year which is usually the standard. Significant readings of Freon leak detected on multiple points of the AC unit. The system is low on R-22 and he refused to fill it up with anymore as it had already been done in July. The discharge of R-22 into the atmosphere is bad for the ozone layer and could be subject to federal fines. He explained the unit is running to its capacity and could get to the point of freezing and causing mechanical failure to the compressor. Technician had no issues of me taking pictures and videos of his scope of work, (please see attached photos that are from BLUE DOT, not Todd Air) showing the Freon leak readings, green means bad. Technician from Blue Dot noted make and serial number of model in invoice, provided (in writing) in detail work done, technical recommendations and estimate. Peter explained there is a mediator which the owner of the property can call to discuss solutions and proper steps to repair the unit. He provided his feedback card and POC for any further questions. *** Todd Air is trained not to honor warranty and will work in favor of property management/ landlord as it can be clearly seen in the above scenario. read more

Got everything fixed by a different company who was a licensed and reputable company for under $200. After noticing significant ice accumulation around condenser and HVAC, we used Todd Air as a second opinion as they are service partners with my home warranty. The technician from a different company ran a test and told me there was a leak and quoted me $1600 to refill it with refrigerant, and $6000 for a split system replacement. Needless to say, I was stunned when Todd Air was able to diagnose and fix the problem in less than an hour and at a fraction of the cost. We noticed our HVAC leaking and called our home warranty company, who sent us Todd Air. Did we get lucky or what! They promptly came out to our house and informed us that we would need a few replacement parts to correct the issue after an inspection. The put everything through our warranty company, so it was very little cost to us and a very easy process. However, once they actually started work on our system, they found several additional issues. Because these issues were unanticipated and were not covered by our warranty, they kindly gave us a discount. They were also able to replace all the parts, even the unanticipated issues, the same day! Our new system is working flawlessly, and we couldn't be more pleased. Thursday morning, Todd Air called and confirmed a time frame that they'd be able to arrive on Friday. Friday between the specified time, they showed up and promptly fixed the issue. Todd Air was called out to my house in 2015 by my home warranty company to address an issue with my heat pump condenser fan not functioning. Although my heat pump system is 20 years old, it has been well-maintained and continues to operate perfectly. The problem with the unit was a bad fan motor. Todd Air did not diagnose the problem and instead told me that they were unable to access the service panel because it bordered my neighbor's house. They instead quoted me $600 to flip the unit 90 degrees in order to be able to service the unit. When I inquired if that would be billed to the home warranty company, they said it would not be covered and that I would need to pay Todd Air out of pocket. There are several things wrong with this: first, how had the unit been adequately maintained by BGE Home for the past 20 years? Compressor and fan run capacitors had been changed previously with no problem. Secondly, the heat pump condenser motor and service panel can easily be removed and all components accessed even with the heat pump in its current placement. My wife and I pulled the Trane service facts for the unit, ordered Trane OEM replacement parts: a new fan motor and run capacitors for the fan as well as the compressor, and followed the electrical schematic to replace all parts. We asked a friend who is a licensed, certified HVAC technician to inspect our work and he approved of our repairs. Our system has been working perfectly fine since. Based on the unscrupulous quote from Todd Air, it would seem that they quoted me for completely unnecessary work, thinking I would not have the ability to figure out the truth. Since this encounter, I proceeded to take professional HVAC training. To this day with the knowledge and skills I've acquired, I still reference back to this experience with Todd Air as what never to do with a customer. I would avoid Todd Air and find a different, more trustworthy contractor. read more

They came out to scope a job for me - the lead tech on the job seemed technically competant (and quoted a fair price) although he was mildly rude to me and all-out rude to another service vendor who was on-site at my house at the time. I gave Todd Air the benefit of the doubt - that day was a hot day and I am sure they were slammed with A/C service calls. We scheduled a time for them to come back and do the work - and on that day, I called 45 minutes after the time they agreed to be at my house (9am - first call of the day). I got a call back about an hour later saying that they were on the way and would be there in an hour. By this point, I was pretty dissatisified in terms of their customer service skills. I cancelled the job on the spot. Why bother with folks that are rude and don't have the common courtesy to check-in before a job or if they are going to be late? They are a great father-son team and not part of some big company, which always earns points from me. They get to the point, fix the problem, and don't try to sell you anything extra. We've been using them for about five years now. The only issue I've had with them is my furnace broke in the middle of winter and they were unable to procure a part for a couple of days - it wasn't their fault, but that was painful. Watch out for this guy. I wish I had read the review about this company working with home appliance warranty company to make sure the warranty is NOT HONORED. The first service he did resulted in nothing more than a tightening of a screw. I was foolish to call him again for another repair through the same home warranty company. The first time he came for this repair, he tried to tell the company not to do service by giving them some of his speculations. The company,however, went ahead with the service repair. I should have not asked the same Todd Air to come again to fix the repair. Did not wake up soon enough. When he came back again for repair, he told the company to cancel my warranty service if I did not fix other things related to the equipment. If you have a nice home, don't take Todd Air's service through a warranty company. He is sure to have your warranty company cancel future repairs or not cover repair costs. read more

Twice Todd Air has come through on short notice and has been able to resolve the issues, even looking beyond initial issues to check if it was merely a symptom of another latent problem. First call was around Feb of '16 when our heat went out. Two other companies came out before them and failed to remedy the issue. (The first guy said it was a bad thermostat, the second suspected the issue but didn't want to deal with it). Todd Air came out, diagnosed it, and worked hard to get the needed part shipped expedited delivery (initial shipment scheduled for 2 days after a blizzard that dumped 3 feet of snow and single digit temps - we had a minor child and wife was9 pregnant). They got it in installed literally the night the storm started, working well into the night (had to replace basically the whole furnace unit). This morning (right after bringing home our youngest from the hospital for surgery), in the middle of a cold snap, we awoke to find our heater out again (go to sleep with inside temp 68, wake up with inside temp around 52) . Todd Air was responsive and was able to determine the initial problem (bad igniter) and spent the time to double check the electronics, discovering the circuit board was also bad (would have resulted in the igniter just buring out again in a couple days otherwise). They were professional, explained everything they did, answered all questions, and even recalled the situation from February. They might come off as a little short, but it is only because they are focused on the issue and aren't there for chit chat or small talk. BUT they DO listen and WILL take the time to make sure you know and understand the process. read more

The owner was pretty rude - they gave me a 4 hour window to wait for them. They called and the first words out of their mouth were a threat to leave if I was not there in 4 minutes. On my way to meet them I got caught up and needed an extra 10 minutes. They rudely stated that they would not wait. They offered the move the appointment to "later" but refused to give me a time. Extremely unprofessional. They asked me to wait 4 hours for them but refused to wait 10 minutes for me. I don't know the quality of their work but the attitude is very crummy. read more

I was told to use Todd Air by my warranty company. I called their number and left a detailed voice mail. I received a call shorty thereafter asking what the problem was. Thinking that he hadn't heard my voice mail (maybe just returning the call), I began to retell the problems I was experiencing. I was abruptly cut off with "Yeah yeah yeah, I got that, I heard it in your message. What else?" I thought this sort of customer service to be quite rude and unprofessional, but what the heck, this is who I was referred to. On the day of the service appointment, the techs were nice enough to give me a 30 minute before-hand call, so I could head home from work, instead of waiting around the house for my appointment (I live just around the corner from work). When they arrived, I explained to them the problems that I had been having, and was once again cut off. I was told that the symptoms I was describing could not be happening; despite the fact that myself and several others had seen it. They looked over my heat pump and air mover, told me that I had pretty new units, and said that there probably wasn't anything wrong with them. They said maybe I should replace the electrical disconnect to the units, "You don't really have to, but maybe. We don't do that kind of thing, you would have get an electrician out here for that." Then they said my issues could be with the older thermostat installed in my house, but they weren't really sure. At the end of the short visit, they told me that all of my equipment was in good running order and I had nothing to worry about. As I noticed my issue continuing, I decided to get the new thermostat. The issue remained after the installation. I decided I might as well have the electrical disconnect replaced like they said. The electrician asked why he was installing this and not the HVAC company, when I told him that Todd Air said that they don't touch disconnects, he laughed. "In 99% of cases, electricians only run the power to a disconnect and the HVAC guys do the disconnects. They don't want us touching their equipment. They just didn't want to bother with it." When he opened the disconnect, he was surprised. He asked if they had looked inside the box. I said yes. "Well they didn't give you any kind of service. There is obvious burning going on in here. Any trained person would see this. You are lucky there wasn't a fire. Very lucky." And yet after the disconnect was replaced, the issue remained. During all of this time, my electric bill was sky-rocketing. After being told that my heating unit was in good working condition, my bill went from $105 in October, to $200 in November, to $440 in December, to $480 in January. Having turned off all other electrical devices in my house, it was determined that the only remaining issue, drawing all of the power, was my heating unit. At my wits end, I called another HVAC company to my house; since he was not covered by my home warranty company, he was strictly for consultation, not repair. When he asked what all I was experiencing, he listened to what I had to say. He even reproduced the symptoms and almost instantly had several ideas to what could be causing it. After trying several tactics, he was able to diagnose exactly what the problem was. He kept asking me if Todd Air had mentioned anything about this or that; always the answer was no. In an angry voice he said, "They never mentioned anything at all about (blank)!?" I told him no. "What a joke, clearly these guys were just here to grab some money and get out." With a good diagnosis of my issue, I called my home warranty company back, and said that I needed another service call, but I would not allow Todd Air back to my home, that I needed another company out to me. Another company soon arrived at my house, confirmed my consultant's findings and quickly fixed the problem. After putting out hundreds of dollars in wasted electricity and other professionals, my heater is finally running exactly as it is supposed to, after being told by Todd Air that everything was working just fine. read more

Im writing this seated in my house and the heat is in the 90's, these guys got horrible customer care and don't seem to care about their customer(s). I got recommended to them by my home warranty company and I was to meet them at my house between 9 - 11 a.m today. I left the house shortly after 9 a.m to tend to an emergency, Danny, one of their associates called me at 9:39 a.m and told me he was outside my house and I told him I would be there in a few minutes after explaining my emergency to him. I requested him to wait for me but he suggested that I would have to pay them $ 37.00 to wait for me to get home. I arrived home at 9:55 a.m and they were gone and could not even return the several calls made to them after that. I think the company's associates customer care is horrible and having a rude "don't care" attitude towards their customer(s). Its unbelievable that I was to wait for them for the two hour duration yet they could not wait for 20 minutes. It seems they are greedy and only after money and not their customers satisfaction or maybe, they have so many customers that they don't care about making any new ones. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone, I am so disappointed. read more
