September 7, 2024 There are 14 tasting rooms in the Old Sugar Mill, so it can be difficult to make a decision as to which one(s) to try. We liked the look of the tasting room for Three Wine Company, and the tasting fee price and menu, so we walked in and sat down at the counter. We were immediately greeted by a friendly server. The tasting fee was 4 wines for $15, so we scanned the 9 wines on the tasting menu to make our selections. My husband and I chose different wines and shared our tastes with each other, so we were each able to have a small taste of many of the wines. As we tasted, we chatted with the server (Adam), and upon hearing what we liked in white wine, he let us try a Chenin blanc that was not on the menu. It ended up being our favorite, and we took two bottles home. The tasting room is comfortable, with hooks at the counter for handbags (always appreciated). One tasting fee is waived with each bottle of wine purchased, which sets this tasting room above many others in our recent visits to other wine tasting venues. read more

My partner and I visited Three Wine Company for a tasting on a recent Saturday afternoon. Initially, we were told that tastings would be complimentary with the purchase of a bottle of wine. Based on that, we opted for a tasting that included a chocolate pairing, expecting the same arrangement. Unfortunately, at the end of our visit, we were charged not only for the bottle but also for the pairings. When we inquired, the sommelier rather smugly informed us that the chocolate pairing was never part of the complimentary tasting deal. He mentioned that the cost of the chocolates couldn't be waived and seemed almost annoyed that we asked. There was no prior clarification and no attempt to resolve the confusion--just a sense that we should have known better. In short, we left feeling pretty disappointed. A little more transparency and a friendlier approach would have gone a long way. read more

We've been wine club members for well over 10 years so this review is somewhat biased. The wines are wonderful whether you're sipping alone in front of a warm fireplace, at a party, or with a meal. My particular favorites are the Old Vine Zinfandel or their 1885 Red Blend. They have an excellent selection of reds and whites to suit a variety of palates. Absolutely everyone who works at Three is welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. Three is located inside The Old Sugar Mill where there are 12 other tasting rooms, as well our favorite, Three Winery. Been going to Three for close to two years now. We are members of a few wineries at The Sugar Mill and Three never disappoints. Our most recent trip was with a party of eleven. I felt bad because our reservation was for only six, but a lot of people wanted to go tasting with us, so I figured the least we could do was ask if they could accommodate us. They were beyond helpful and understanding. They took us all in and ensured everyone had a great time. Guess how many wines are included in the complimentary tasting?!? They have over 10 if you pay $5. While you contemplate this mind jogger I want to tell you about three wines that I liked. I am not much for Reisling, but my goodness they make one that grabs your attention. Art is art, and that is a good bottle. They also have a 105 year old vine Zin that is very nicely balanced between spice and nice. They also have an 85 year old vine Zin that is good, but not quite as good as the 105. Three Wine Co just opened up a tasting room at Old Sugar Mill. They have a little under 10 wines to taste and no tasting fee. I only tried the whites (I think there were 3-4 reds as well) and they were wonderful. But the real highlight was the S3x late harvest Riesling. It is AMAZING. It was probably the best dessert wine I've ever had. Of course it's incredibly sweet (too much for my tasting partner) but it totally hit the spot for this sweet tooth. My daughter was married June 13th and we had a lot of family in town for the following week. Being Dirt Club members we 'thought' Three Wine Company was open on Thursdays so we brought the family to the Sugar Mill for some tastings. I found the doors closed but a slight nudge they opened and found tasting room manager Matt McCollough sitting behind a computer and willing to host our party of ten for a tasting. Needless to say Matt was awesome! He pulled out a bottle Escapade and gave our family a very good education on wine tasting through Matt Cline's very excellent 1885. I have mixed feelings about this place. I love the wines and they have a beautiful space at the Old Sugar Mill. However, although their website mentions sustainability, they have an employee who referred to the climate crisis as a "warming trend" and not really anything to worry about. Denial of this existential threat that we all face and will do us in if we don't all do everything we can to mitigate it ASAP definitely left a bad taste in my mouth in contrast with a delicious red. This place is a favorite at the Old Sugar Mill. I love the wines, the relaxed atmosphere, and seeing and getting poured tastings by Kelly. She is just as much a reason that we come back here as the wine. As for the wine, I'm a big fan of the Old Vines Zin and Field Blend, and the Petite Sirah. The Albarino is on the sweeter side of white which I'm normally not a fan of, but I actually enjoy it very much. I visited this Sunday with some girl friends (two of which who had never been to OSM) and they enjoyed the experience just as much as I did. Three Wine Company was bustling when I visited a couple of weekends ago. I really wanted to check it out, so when I found an open space at the counter, I made sure to squeeze in. My boyfriend and I stood there for a few minutes, until we were greeted. That person then left, for some reason, and a minute later, another woman began to help us. She asked us if we wanted the free tasting (3 pours) or the paid tasting. Since we had already visited a few other tasting rooms, we figured three pours would be a good starting point. While tasting the wines, we found out that the company was owned by one of the Cline brothers. Having visited both Jacuzzi and Cline in Sonoma, we were both quite interested in learning more. But unfortunately, the lady helping us didn't seem to know much about the history or family. Oh well. The wine we tasted was fine; but none really stood out, of the three that we tried. read more

Three Wine Company is one of my favorite wineries, not only in the Old Sugarmill location, but overall! I'm not a wine snob by any means so it's nice to have knowledgeable people who work there that know their wines. Three has some of the best whites, with some of my favorites being Escapade and Albarino which are perfect for the summer months. They have some very decent reds as well. It's also been fun going to their release parties which seem to occur about every 3 months or so, but is usually accompanied by some food and samples of a wider variety of wines. Granted you need to be a member but their fees are nowhere near the Napa-type payments. If you want to try something new, refreshing and a location gaining in popularity, please give Three Wine Company a try as I'm sure you'll be as elated as I am! Cheers! read more

What a wonderful spot for the new Three Wine tasting room! I stopped by yesterday to check out the facilities. I have been a fan of Matt Cline's wines about 10 years now, and I always look forward to trying his new releases. I was so happy to see Matt and Erin nicely settled into this new space. Erin poured us a taste of 9 different wines: 3 whites from the Russian River (1 of which is a lucious late harvest Riesling) and 6 reds from the Oakley area. My favorites were the single vineyard reds, but I really enjoyed tasting all of the wines. The Riesling was a nice treat, as well. The other white is a nice Chardonnay. I'm typically not a Chardonnay fan, but Matt makes a nice one that is not overly buttery or too oaky. They're known for their Zinfandels, but I really love the Carignane and the Mataro as well. The Old Sugar Mill is very cool building, also housing 4 other winery tasting rooms. The facility is located on the Sacramento River, just south of Sacramento. It's a great destination for a day-trip, especially when you want to avoid the fog of the Bay Area. I high recommend a visit! read more

My fiance and I were visiting my parents for the holidays, so my mom decided we should go check out some wineries in the area. I stumbled upon The Old Sugar Mill. Three Wine Company was one of the wineries we visited. The tasting price wasn't bad and you got a decent selection of their wines. I don't know how some of the people can call their pours "generous" but maybe our lady wasn't feeling so giving. As a beer drinker and brewery fanatic I am used to really friendly and talkative service. Beer people can be snobby, but usually they are happy to share their passion and talk you up. Here I found the service to be a bit cold and reserved. Not terrible, but just not warm and welcoming. Maybe she could sense that we weren't hardcore wine drinkers. The wine itself was good. I ended up buying a bottle of their dessert wine, but I was the only one who seemed to think they had anything worth buying. What really got me was that we were overcharged here. Now I could be like that Harvard business professor and scream and shout about being over charged $5, but at the end of the day it is $5. The story goes as this: The tastings are $5 (something like that) and if you buy a bottle of wine they waive the tasting fee. My mom didn't want a glass of her own but would take a small sip of ours if she was interested, so we got two tastings. When we left we bought a bottle of wine, and we were still charged for two tastings, not one. So the wine was decent, the service was lacking, and we got overcharged (a small amount but still overcharged). I might go back for a bottle of that dessert wine, but I wouldn't cozy up to the bar again. 4/100 read more

You could almost miss this little winery in the back corner of the mill. They are quite understated. It's all about the wine. No gimmicks or knickknacks. The space is dark, yet inviting and their logo as multifaceted as their drinks. The hostess acknowledged me immediately and began explaining about the different types of wine they make. They have a delicious Riesling, about a half dozen reds that range from simple to complex in flavor, and their award-winning S3x dessert wine. At $40 a bottle (about 13oz) it is pricey, but well worth it. Conditions have to be right for production, so something this good is a rarity. read more

Three's wines are absolutely wonderful. They have a selection of both whites and reds, so there's a little something for everyone. And no tasting fee!! Like a previous reviewer mentioned though, the star of the show is their Late Harvest S3x Riesling. SO FREAKING DELICIOUS oh my god. It's a pretty amber color, suuuper sweet, but not syrupy at all. A little steep on the price (~$40 per 375-mL bottle) but definitely worth it for a special occasion. I got a bottle to share with my bridesmaids while getting ready on my wedding day, and it was definitely a hit. Their other wines are very well crafted too. My second favorite is their rose -- it smells just like strawberries and tastes sweet but more of a dry sweet, and fruity. Light and delicious! The only problem with this one is that once you open a bottle, you better plan on finishing it because it does NOT keep well at all. Put it in the fridge overnight and the next day it tastes and smells faintly of vinegar. Their regular Riesling is also a favorite of mine -- not too sweet, and crisp on the palate. I can't really comment on the reds because by the time I get to them on a tasting trip here, I'm too tipsy to really retain any coherent thoughts! ;D read more

3WineCo is one of the hidden gems at Old Sugar Mill. Its really easy to miss, since its all the way at the end of the building, but you definetly have to try them out. They do mostly zinfandel and zin blends, which come out delicious! The Field Blend Zin is good, and so is the Mataro? Zin. In the past they have bottled a cabernet... Make sure you stop by! We arrived at this winery at 4:25 PM on a Saturday afternoon. Had I known the quality of service we would receive due to arriving so close to close of business, we would have skipped this winery entirely. Note a price tag of $10 for 5 tastings of just OK wine. We were hastily rushed through the menu; and asked what we wanted to purchase before we even got to taste our last pour. I understand entirely that it's a business to run (I've worked in the industry), but we left feeling on edge and unsatisfied. Yesterday was my first time for wine tasting at the Sugar Mill in Clarksburg. Three Wine Co. was an exciting find. I met Matt & Erin Cline, owners and tasted their fantastic wines. I am a red wine drinker and their Field Blend Zinfandel, Carignane and Mataro wines were outstanding. All of those were well balanced, good fruit with great body. This winery is located in the Sugar Mill in Clarksburg. Our wine tasting attendant was really nice. Tasting was free. I think we were allowed to taste three or four wines. The wines tasted ok to me. Their long sleeve t-shirts were overpriced at $26 for a thin non high-quality shirt. Because the tasting attendant was so nice, I had a good time here overall. read more

This review will be short & sweet... My wife and I vistited the OSM two weeks in a row, during the first week we did a wine tasting at the Three Wine Company. After trying just about all of there wines whites/reds we became a DIRT member. Enjoyed every wine in the flight we tried; needless to say the Three Wine Co. was the reason we came back for the Wine and Food Truck Festival. The service was good, the atmousphere was nice and the ouydoor patio was really cool if you want to buy a bottle of your fav and have a picnic. The wines here are great, they have god examples of everything they do, including some single varietals of motaro and carrignane, which are normally used for mixing and so are rare in single varietal forms. I am not much of a sweet wine drinker, but you have to try their late harvest... it is a great dessert wine without any of the usual cloying sweetness most wines of that type carry read more

The tasting room wines were good, the ones you get at home don't taste as good. The customer svc reps told us there was no minimum for the wine club and that we could sign up on the website. In fine print they tell you that you must join for a year, but I wasn't expecting to need to read up on their policy, since their rep told me that there were no requirements, so we signed up. After getting a couple deliveries I noticed that I did not enjoy their wines nearly as much as the ones I tasted in the tasting room, tried to cancel my membership, but since I signed up online and it did state that I had to join for a year, I cannot cancel. So, they will get a few more of my dollars and then I will never purchase another item from them again, hate being tricked into buying something I don't want, lame. Hope this helps someone thinking of joining, know what you are getting into and know that the wine you get delivered will not taste nearly as good as the stuff they pour during your tasting. read more
