Quick & Dirty: My Christmas tree is better than yours. Quick & Pine Fresh: Todd's rocks. Not only do they have a butt load of Xmas trees to choose from, but they are nice! The guys were really friendly, they had a little fire pit, they have mistletoe, they have aisles and aisles of trees and SMILES? Ok, so that was cheesy. BUT, they actually wished me a Merry Christmas! I guess this is one of the places where they are encouraged to say the words "Merry Christmas!" That's great! I LOVE CHRISTMAS!!! Seems odd to be writing a review of a Christmas tree place in February, but well, it's Cheryl's fault. When we first moved to Long Beach in 1999, we lived just off Ximeno, and since my husband wasn't the Christmas tree shopping enthusiast that I have been all my life, I dragged the tree home from Todd's all by myself that first year. The prices for trees seem to get more and more thoroughly outrageous with each passing year, but somehow you felt better handing over your hard-earned cash to a place like Todd's than to the aproned half-witted dude at Lowes. They're typically very helpful, cheerful (what a concept!) and willing to trim anything you want off the tree and expertly anchor it to the car for your half-mile trip home at 10 mph. read more

We got our tree from Todd's last year, and decided to come back this year too. We were new to buying our own tree, so I did a lot of homework on different types of trees. I saw four types at Todd's: Douglas Fir, Noble Fir, Fraser Fir, and Grand Fir. The Douglas Fir is one of the most popular trees, and prolly what comes to mind when you think of the classic Christmas tree. It is also the most affordable. You can get a good 5 to 6 footer for under 50 bucks. Its branches grow upward, and its blue-green needles grow out in every direction, giving the tree a vertical look. They have that classic Christmas tree smell, but they may not last as long as the other trees. The Noble Fir is beautiful and dense. Its branches grow upward, and have thick, short blue-green needles. They look pretty sturdy, so if you like tons of ornaments, these will hold up. While it looks great, it has a faint scent, which is ideal if you have a sensitive nose or don't care for tree smell. Otherwise, look further if you want a full-scented tree. It costs a bit more than the Douglas, but is still pretty reasonable. The Fraser Fir is their utmost highest-end luxury tree. It has a fantastic classic tree scent that comes through really strong. It has short dense branches that grow slightly upward, revealing its two-toned needles: green on top, silvery white on the bottom. Expect to pay upwards of 75 dollars. Lastly, they sell the Grand Fir, which is our favorite. It has two-toned needles, dense branches, and a unique citrus-pine scent. It is not as pricey as the Fraser, but a good sized tree will run about 65-70. For us, it offered the best features at a reasonable price. The only drawback is that they did not have many in available this year, so getting one may be tough. Service, as everyone says, is super friendly and helpful. After you choose your tree, they will trim it and mount it on a stand. Wooden ones go for for about 7 bucks, and iron ones for 14. Wooden stand can be tossed out with the tree. However you can re-use the iron ones, and they will remount your next tree in subsequent years at no charge. For a nominal fee they will bag your tree, and if you need a hand they will gladly help you load it onto your car (don't forget to tip). If you feel inclined to go the extra mile, the offer flocking as well. They'll do it light, medium, or heavy, depending how much pretend snow you prefer. After all that, if you still want more Christmas stuff, they make garlands and wreaths of various sizes as well. And don't forget your complimentary candy cane. read more

My credit card info was stolen right after I bought a tree from this place and used to buy over $200 worth of merchandise from Walmart. Other than that, my overall experience was great. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, quality products. They even carried my tree from the lot to the car and loaded it. I would definitely recommend this place, as long as you don't mind the whole credit card fraud issue. read more

Bought our tree here last year after learning that the YMCA wasn't selling trees anymore. Had a good selection and friendly staff. We went to buy our tree the weekend after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, they don't keep their trees in water and I suspect they didn't take an inch off the bottom as requested before putting the base for the water on the tree. Our tree was dried out and crispy about a week and half before Christmas, so we couldn't keep it up until New Years since it was dropping needles like crazy. read more

We went there last night to get our first Christmas tree as a family (our son is 6 months old). We had a great experience! We were immediately greeted by a nice guy, who at the time was carrying someone else's tree. He was super friendly and told us someone would be with us shortly. We took our time walking around and found the perfect 6 1/2' Noble Fir! Another nice guy helped us out. We got a base screwed on and he attached the tree to the roof of our car for us. Great prices too! For our first family tree, we had the perfect experience. This is definitely the place to go! read more

The Short: 1. Super Nice and Helpful Staff 2. Very accommodating and don't make you feel weird for wanting something unusual Like a munchkin tree) 3. Great Trees (really full- like just about any tree on the lot would look great in your living room) The Long: We weren't going to do a tree this year...until, just one week before Christmas, I found out that I FINALLY get to host xmas. Three days before xmas, my hubby and I set out to find a small enough tree that we could put it on our kitchenette table (we live in a 2bd condo that is not large, so space is very limited). For a full size tree, we usually move the table into the second bedroom, but thats been cleared out to set up the 72inch round table and rented chiavari chairs (that are arriving today)-I only have two modes- over the top, and really really over the top...this year I'm going for the latter. Anyhow, having waited so long, when we came, most the trees were giant (I am very short, so its hard to tell for me, but I would estimate most trees were between 7-10 feet). When we first came and saw there were no small trees, we headed out to investigate other options. The "other" options also had no trees the size we wanted, were more expensive, and had inferior trees to Todds....so we came back. I really appreciated that they didn't make us feel bad at all about leaving and then coming back. Their whole staff was super helpful and spent a good chunk of time helping us find a tree with a really great top and not such a great bottom so we could cut it in half. (It was hard, because most of their trees are pretty much perfection- even at the end of the season when its pretty picked over) The tree we ended up with is PERFECT! I really appreciated their helpful attitude, willingness to accommodate our needs, and the welcoming way they treated us and the other people we saw on the lot. This will be a new Christmas tradition for us... PS- I saw that they offer delivery for a pretty reasonable tree (since my husband and I drive small cars, this is a HUGE plus if we want a full sized tree). I would recommend this place to anyone...and everyone looking for that perfect tree in Long Beach. read more

It was a nice place, with very nice people, Brian took care of us and he was wonderful, the perfect example of great customer service. But the trees are WAY too expensive. They should put prices on the trees so we wont get to the register and get hit with 105$ for a little tree. Getting our tree here was very easy. There was plenty of parking before 5pm on a Wednesday, and I was in and out in less than an hour, including cutting and standing the tree. I brought my own stand, from the year before, and it wasn't a problem. The business has been run for the last 50 years in Long Beach, I'm presuming, so it's nice to support a local business. I was able to purchase a nice Fir, about 4 1/2 ft. for under $50 w/ tax. Most of the entire tree lot area was covered in a big tent, so even if it rains, shoppers and the trees are covered. They had just received a new shipment of trees earlier in the day, I heard, so they restock their supply which is nice, ensuring people who get trees a little later in the season won't have a dry or old tree (provided they add water to the dish once it gets home). read more

Once again, A great time at our regular Christmas tree lot. Our family has been getting our tree here for the last 12 years. This year, our son was given free reign to choose the tree of his choice. Yup. A blue flocked beauty. Not the powder blue rent-a-tux of the 70's, but a slightly blue tinted white flocking. For others with an opinionated 11 year old, or for those that miss the rolling-around of plastic puffy stuff around the house floors around Christmas, Todd's offers white, blue and pink flocking. We use a tried and true stand every year, but didn't want to lie the tree down because of the flocking while transporting home, so the Owner was kind enough to lend us the steel stand until we got the tree home. Todd's rocks! I just went after checking out reviews on yelp. I passed up on two other places that were closer to my house because of the great reviews on Todd's. And I'm SUPER happy that I did. They have a ton of trees and a little "village" set up where you can buy wreaths and stuff on the way in. I was greeted by the cashier. I easily found the perfect tree in about 5 minutes and two gentlemen helped me. Since I like to keep my tree past Christmas, they hooked me up with a bowl for water and a wooden stand. AND one of the guys who helped me gave me 3 candy canes :) Definitely found my Christmas tree place for many years to come. I'm hard to please so Five Stars is hard for me to give. I wish I could give them 4.5 stars. I've been buying my trees for the last few years at Home Depot, mostly due to their low prices. However their tree selection, and more so their customers service, has been getting worse every year. This year we decided to try supporting small business by going to a local tree lot. Their customer service was outstanding! The quality of the trees are top notch. You pay a bit more, but you truly do get what you pay for. I will be going back next year for sure. read more

Was a place, what a place! After an entire day running around doing errands and going Christmas shopping we finally get around to buying a tree. We went to another place but they we closed and we missed it by about 10 minutes. So, I remember driving by another place and hoped and wished and praying that...they would be open. And even though it was about 10 minutes passed their official "operating hours" they were open...HIP HIP HORRRAY! Service was great and the staff were funny, welcoming, and friendly. They have big ones, small ones, tall ones short ones. Their trees come in all shapes and sizes and you get a candy cane, too. What joyful staff and friendly trees. Really fresh trees. We wanted to get ours the first weekend of December but they were all sold out Sunday evening. We came back on the same day as the new delivery and we're able to find amazing tree. The place is packed with people and we pretty much had to open trees on our own but it was worth it. It's almost Christmas and my tree is still fresh and smells amazing. I'm very picky and I'm pretty impressed how fresh my tree is. Price for 8' tree was $95 which is pretty good comparing to competitors down the street selling same tree for $180 which is ridiculous. I'm really happy and for sure coming back next year! read more

Poor supply of trees and many of those remaining were brown. The owners of the business had two off-leash dogs running throughout the lot and my son stepped in dog poop. We left disappointed, empty handed and with a shoe full of poop. read more

Well, I wish I could say I had another great experience here, as I've been a loyal customer for years, but today they lost my support and I cannot recommend this place to others. The staff was already being extremely rude when I went to the window to purchase my tree. The ladies at the registers were confused, getting frustrated with the other staff (the boys working/helping), and she even apologized for the chaos to which I assured it was fine, I knew it was a busy morning. The gentlemen were then very helpful. The gentleman who prepared my tree asked if I needed help carrying to my car, and I said no, I could carry it (It was 4-5 ft small). I'm outside the lot at this point, placing the tree in my car, and the SAME worker who rang me up calls at me and goes "do you have a receipt for that?!" I was so utterly shocked and confused until I realized she literally thought I was stealing a fucking tree. I said "excuse me?" and I think noticing what bs she had just said bc she muttered "oh no no, it's just be usually someone carries it out." This is the same lady that rang me at the register. I literally had no response because this has never happened to me before. I am a latina woman, I was wearing a black hoodie and leggings, I was wearing a mask and she wasn't. Saying his trees were "gold", and we will not find a better tree elsewhere." Then we were about to buy the same tree they gave us an issue about and Todd, the owner, lcame out of no where and told us the tree was mis-marked and he's not just going to "give away his tree." We have been getting our tree from Todd's for about 7 years now. I moved this year and drove an extra 15-20 minutes just to go here. They get new deliveries throughout December and their trees are always fresh. Fair prices and it always feels good to give back to the small businesses. Mike is awesome. Always upbeat, no matter how busy they are. Went last night and got our tree for this year and it was packed. It's easy to see why, good looking tree's, fair prices and friendly staff.
