Ah, I really had a great experience here. My friend and I decided to have an impromptu mani/pedi afternoon. We had seen this place while walking around and had been meaning to try it out. We called at 1:15 to try and make appointments at 2pm for two of us. The lady said they were pretty busy, but she'd get us in. We got there on time and they got to work right away. They carry OPI nailpolish, my favorite brand. They don't have an extensive collection, but I find that to be better because I become extremely indecisive when there are too many options. The place is also really clean and reminds me more of a day spa rather than a nail salon. You sit in plush couch type chairs that are very comfortable. No chair massage option, but the plushness definitely makes up for it. One lady did my hands while the other did my feet. I don't know if they planned it, or if by coincidence, but they both massaged my legs/feet and hands/arm at the same exact time. Heaven. The nail polish was put on smoothly and carefully and my manicure lasted chip free for over a week. Pretty good! And for about 30 bucks for the full mani/pedi, you won't find me complaining. Utopia mimics Silk with the big comfy chairs and having the pedicure bowls (with flowers and lemon slices floating ) brought to you while you relax, but for a cheaper price($29 for mani/pedi) My manicures have always been meticulous leaving my nails looking so good that sometimes I question if I should put polish on. I highly recommend having Jimmy add to your pedicure bliss with a 25min foot reflexology massage. I have always found it easy to walk in without an appointment. OPI polish selection is decent, although there could always be more choices. The place is very clean and quiet with very friendly staff. This has become my regular spot!!! read more

This massage was a 10 out of 10. 70 minutes for $35+tip. Foot soak, followed by incredibly strong pressure point massage. For added blissful brutality, my massuse, John, also used a stone occupressure tool to work out stubborn knots in my sole. A day later,(now), my feet still feel loose and refreshed. I was very specific and communicative during the massage to make sure the pressure and focus was exactly right. John kicked my feet's ass. And this Foot massage was easily my best ever. One not insignificant drawback is the noise level. Street traffic on Divis is loud; the phone rang often; walk-in mani-pedi negotiations took place right outside my sheer curtain at full volume. A silent ringer and hushed tone could improve this place immensely. (They just need a sign that says, "please whisper.") All in all, best SEVENTY MINUTE massage you can get for $35. For massages I would give this place 4 stars! You can do 30 mins foot reflexology + 30 mins back/neck/shoulders for $41. That's pretty unbeatable! It isn't a full-blown spa, and they do massage over a towel, but trust me it still does a great job in getting out knots and relaxing you! For nails, I would give this place 3 stars. They do a fine job, but the quality of the shellac isn't great and some of their employees are more experienced than others. One benefit is that they usually will do simultaneous mani/pedis so if you are in a rush they can get it done in 45 mins or less. But it's also awkward because they will make you hold all the stuff on your lap while they are working on your hands and feet since they don't have dedicated manicure tables or pedicure chairs. I will say I frequent this place at least every 2 weeks though for a massage, so I am definitely putting my $ where my mouth is! They are open 10-10 for massages and 10-7 for mani/pedis! read more

Skip this place. Foot massage was terrible. My little sister does a much better job for free! The guy didn't know what he was doing and had long nails so I could feel that! BUT I didn't want to interrupt my two friends massages so I stuck with it hoping the foot massage would get better but NO. My friend who also had a male said her foot massage was terrible as well. They didn't know what parts of the foot to massage. They were just doing some Bullsh!t massage on our feet and calves. Second, my pedicure was bleh. I get better at my regular shops but for cheaper. Both employees are lucky I feel bad when I do not tip so they both still received a tip. My friends and I only went here to celebrate a friends birthday and we definitely will not be back. I have been here a number of times over the past few years. They changed their name but still appears to be same owner. I have had reflexology done so that is all I can comment on. It is hit or miss. I have had great experiences and then more recently, not so great. The last time I went I told the owner that I wanted light pressure. She says "okay" she would let the guy know. Well she didn't. He was ridiculously rough and unskilled. I felt like I had been assaulted. I told him numerous times less pressure but he did not speak English so I had to make hand motions which he didn't seem to understand either. At one point I was tempted to call them while sitting in the chair and have the owner come back and translate. I'm not going to blame the workers. There is a reason they charge $38 for 70 minutes. My suggestion to the owner is to have some kind of card to give to the employee or the customer to indicate the degree of pressure - softer or harder. It's important to have communication with someone who is touching your body and this would be an easy way to accomplish that. read more

Have been twice now - first time for foot massage and regular mani/pedi, second time for gel manicure and pedi. The foot massage was decent, especially for the price, so I guess I got someone good. However, the gel manicure I got last week has already peeled off entirely. Usually gel lasts at least two weeks, and by the third, some start to chip and it's hard to get the rest off yourself. It's been exactly one week since I got the gel manicure at Utopia and when one started peeling off as I was moving my hair (which is thin as paper) I much too easily was able to pull off the entire thing. The rest were already growing out and with one ruined and the rest pulling up at the edges, I literally took all of them off EASILY within 2 minutes at work. Normally, this would happen at least 2 weeks later and it should be difficult to do on your own. Every time I touched my hair to put it up the last few days I could feel the layer coming off. They also charged $33 for the gel, which is higher than some other 'bargain' spots but with much less longevity. Not sure if I will go back now. read more

Not only do they offer great services at great prices but the color scheme and music create the perfect relaxing environment. I always get the $35 for 70minutes foot massage (foot soak 10min, 40min foot massage, 20min upper body) and I will keep working towards my 11th and free visit! Best $35 indulgence! So far I have had two different male masseuses and a female masseuse. I prefer the massage by Henry's the best he is very skilled at hitting the right pressure points. Wow!!!!! Little did I know what I was getting myself into before I walked in to this gem. I went in for a simple foot massage and 70 min later left feeling amazing after one of the best foot and back massages of my life. Tony was incredible!!! Clean, easy to get same day appointment, friendly front-desk person. My husband and I were feeling achy so we asked for more back than foot massage (20 minutes on feet, 40 on back). This costs $40. Well worth it! We were placed in an area surrounded by sheer curtains. Think maharsji in India? The.massage therapist "Tony" is excellent. Love this place! Environment is clean and bright, hosting a relaxing theme of soft peach drapes that section off areas for privacy. I've been here over a handful of times and like the quality of service very much. I don't get one regular person and have found all to be very knowledgable of their craft. If you have sore areas, let them know and they'll spend more time on that area. You can also receive a loyalty card giving the 10th visit free. One negative is parking during the day. I loved this place. It's clean and spa-like. The people are friendly. Most importantly, the foot massage was amazing! It started with a warm foot bath in the cozy treatment room. You're treated to warm blankets and a hot neck roll, tea or water. The leather recliner was so comfy and traditional spa music made it very relaxing. As far as the massage goes, it was brilliant: enough pressure to get to your difficult spots and Gigi made sure she worked on the areas I asked her to and the spots that needed extra attention. The massage ended with a foot and full leg stretch. I came out feeling like a new person and completely relaxed. My feet feel so much better. It was excellent value-I highly recommend this place. This place is the best for getting a foot massage. I would have given 5 stars if I was rating it only for massage services. However, I made the mistake of also getting a manicure and pedicure. The lady who I think owns the place made me get a different type of polish saying that it lasts longer and it's only a few more dollars. The polish started to come off only after a few days. The worst part was the pedicure. The guy barely scrubbed/filed my feet. When I asked if my pedicure includes scrubbing and filing, he said yes and he'd already done it. I would be fine if the pedicure doesn't include filing considering the price, however advertising that it includes everything and not doing it is worse. I then told the owner about this and she didn't do anything. She didn't even try to compensate this even though I am a regular at this place and come almost every weekend. read more

I went here based on the reviews that I read but my experience was very different. I got a 40 min massage and I wanted more feet and legs than upper body. The woman that gave me my massage used her elbows and really dug in there to get those knots. This wasn't the first time I've been elbowed during a massage but by the evening I couldn't rotate my head. My shoulders were swollen and I had sever pain in both of them as well. It took 3 full days before I had full movement again with my head. I did call and let them know what happened and I was told was that they would let the woman who gave me my massage know what happened. Looking back I'm wondering if everyone there is licenced and if they really know what they're doing. Not to mention that I think their massage therapists are overworked. The lady that gave me my massage was falling asleep during my massage and as soon as my massage was over she was on to the next person without a break. Please be careful going here and make sure that your massage therapist is licensed. read more

I must give thanks to my great friend Griselda who planned our Tuesday evening escape to UTOEpia. Who would've thought you'd find it hidden away on Divisidero? Not me. But there it is. Shy and unassuming Utoepia. Clean, calming and welcoming. We showed up near to 8 p.m - (it's open until 10 each night). We were shown to our relaxing beds in a curtained off little piece of heaven, where we were covered with blankets and our feet were soaked in warm water. Griselda whipped out a bottle of wine for us to sip on and we nibbled on the snacks they provided and happily waved goodbye to our worries and stresses. The price was ridiculously cheap and the masseuses (is that the plural? masseusen?) anyway, they were thorough. attentive and informative. I will definitely be going back - this is going to be a regular treat for me. It's great for your well-being and guilt free because it's so affordable. Bring your significant other, work friend, girlfriend, boyfriend, gay friend, neighbor, local-bus-driver, regular starbucks barista, boss, sibling, or parents along or - just go on your own. I really like this place because it's super conveniently located on Divisadero and they're pretty accommodating for walk-ins and appointments. I opted for their 30-min foot and 30-min back massage with the 10-min herbal foot bath. Strength of the massage was excellent! You can always tell the masseuse to adjust the pressure if it's a bit too rough/soft. I thoroughly enjoyed the back massage too. I had high hopes for this place! My friend booked us reflexology appointments which sounded great after a 60 hour work week; but, wow, I couldn't have been more disappointed! I left in terrible pain. My massage therapist, William, used his elbows to dig into my neck. Needless to say, my neck has been in terrible pain ever since. I even had to go to cryotherapy to try to reverse the damages. Massages aren't supposed to leave you in pain! If you do go, ask for Gigi to give you a chair massage. She is actually very talented and seems to be trained. read more

I work across the street from Utoepia and enjoyed being able to drop in and get a massage after work for a low price. The business is clean and modern. The massage rooms are NOT very private and you have to really find YOUR inner peace in order to ignore the noise from the street as well as the ladies getting their nails done. The reason for the negative review is: I stopped in once after a long stressful day. I booked a foot massage and back massage. The man giving my service was new to me and gave me a great foot massage. Then I flipped over and received a 30 minute butt massage. He NEVER touched my shoulders, where I hold all of my tension, or my back, only my legs, which had already been covered by the foot massage and of course my butt.... When it ended I left in shock. The next day I woke up with my back and shoulders in knots! I called and talked to 3 people trying to ask, through the language barrier, for them to make good on the massage I paid for and never received. They booked me a massage for after work. When I got there the manager proceeded to argue with me in front of her all of her clients and even brought out the man who massaged by butt so I could explain to him what happened. How embarrassing! He claimed to not even remember me. I thought briefly of showing him my backside, maybe he would remember that! The manager was very unprofessional and would offer me only a discount. I said, "no thank you, I just thought in the name of good customer service, you would want to make good on the service I had already paid for". Then out comes the sweetest lady, she had massaged me before and I had requested her for today. They seemed to argue in their language for a minute and she agreed to let her give me a 20 min massage. She then gave me a lovely 25 min massage and refused a tip. I will never go back. I had referred many customers to them and I have of course shared this story in the hope that that nasty manager will not make any more money thanks to me. I was on a friendly basis with many of the ladies working there and they knew me by name and face. I have finally decided to go elsewhere. They overbook themselves so much that 3 times it took 2.5-3 hours to complete a mani/pedi. Each time I booked an appointment a week in advance and at the time of my appointment I witnessed them taking walk ins and pushing my appointment back more and more. I tried talking with them about it but the language barrier makes it nearly impossible to communicate effectively. I continued to go hoping it was a one time experience. This last time, I had it. After realizing that it was going to happen again, my decision was made. I received the manicure but when I asked when the pedicure was going to be finished they shrugged and ignored me. From the moment I sat down to the moment I asked, they had taken 3 walk ins and all the ladies were too busy to complete their appointments. I was in for another epic mani/pedi session. Who has time for this? I paid for the manicure and walked out without tipping. A woman chased me down Divisidero, yelling at me, demanding i tip. I said here's a tip...stop overbooking and honor your appointments in a timely manner. She told me never to return. I had already made that decision. With the language barrier I doubt she understood me. Considering how noisy the location is, how difficult it is to relax, they're inability to manage appointment and walk ins, you're better off taking your business elsewhere. read more
