Was really craving sushi while home with my parents and found this spot via Yelp. Before walking in, i was a little skeptical, thinking it was one of those fast-food style asian spots that seem to litter Greenville, but I trusted Yelp, and boy am I glad I did! We ended up coming back 2 days in a row because the sushi was so good. My favorites: hawaiian, godzilla, white geisha, and christmas. The hand rolls are also excellent, although I would recommend skipping the nigiri. My dad ordered the red curry and it was fantastic. Stopped by for dinner and had amazing pork gyoza for an appetizer. The menu claimed that "life would never be the same" after the Godzilla Roll, so of course I had to give it a try. I have to say, this is actually some of the best sushi I've ever had. The ingredients tasted very fresh, the presentation was excellent (and creative!) and the service was great. Perfect spot for a quick bite! We discovered this spot on Yelp and decided to try it for ourselves. It's located inside a shopping center strip. It appeared to be really clean inside. The service was amazing and really fast! We went on a Tuesday for dinner and it was not too busy. Our soup and kani salad came out promptly! My wife and I were in the mood for sushi so we decided to order some carry out to take back to our room. We got the sushi lovers for 2, steamed shumai, and fried gyoza. The shumai were ok, some of the smallest I had ever seen. The miso soup was super weak and more watery than miso flavor. The real disappointment was the sushi platter - we both love sushi and eat it often (my wife is half Japanese), but we couldn't even bring ourselves to finish the platter because it made us lose our appetite. Unfortunately, we left about half uneaten. Granted, the presentation was beautiful and they gave us a good assortment of sushi and sashimi; some of the fish was ok but a lot of it had a weird taste and texture. Some pieces were very chewy. Definitely not what you want when eating raw fish. We honestly felt confused with all the good reviews raving about this place, we know good sushi from eating it around the world and this was definitely subpar and disappointing. We hate to leave bad reviews on restaurants, but it was so bad we thought it would be a courtesy to help those who are searching for really good and fresh sushi/sashimi. read more

WOW. This sushi spot is truly a gem!! Reminds me of Lin's Asian Cafe in Simpsonville tbh. This place is a small spot located in the publix plaza in Greer and it truly exceeded my expectations. Decor was cute, prices reasonable, Service great and the food was phenomenal. I got spicy baked mussels and the tom yum goong as a appetizer. The soup was hot, flavorful, and had two big pieces of shrimp. It was a cold and rainy day so it definitely soothed the soul and warmed my heart. It was surprisingly a generous portion compared to other sushi places. The mussels were perfect, no complaints there. I got the Out of Control roll because it had no rice and more sashimi. It was so fresh and delicious!! Presentation was beautiful. I can't wait to try more of their menu next time. I will definitely be back again (soon)!!! read more

Why wasn't this restaurant packed on a Saturday night?! We did not understand because of how fresh the sushi and sashimi was! We got yellowtail and salmon sashimi that came in an iced cocktail glass, and then 2 specialty rolls- Godzilla and Spicy Lovers. The presentation was even more impressive. 1 star taken off for service- our server kind of forgot about us half way through our dinner service (he was eating his dinner at the sushi bar and then went back into the kitchen). We kinda chuckled that it would be in our brain while sleeping that night. Parking was a long walk in that shopping plaza being no parking that night. The dinning room was small and lots of take out orders being filled. It was kinda hectic. The food was on the expensive side too. Let me start by saying, we absolutely love the food at Tokyo Cafe and have been long term customers. However today is a gorgeous day and we went there to eat outside. They have two outside tables but when we asked to sit outside they said no. They were not crowded and all they would have had to do was wipe the table down. I'm so confused why you would have two tables with seating outside of you don't want people to eat outside. the person we spoke to was direct and not helpful at all. I'm sad over this as I was looking forward to a meal there but we decoded to leave an enjoy sushi somewhere else outside. read more

Great food, after trying lots of sushi places in Greenville, this one is by far our favorite. My new favorite is Out of Control!

While the food is delicious, the presentation is what really steals the show here! Every time I've went, which is often because it is so convenient, they manage to blow me away with their creative presentations! There's always a picture, or a sculpture, or sometimes both, to go along with your meal. I always get sushi, and have never been disappointed. They have a large menu though, so one day I will have to change it up. Service is always fast and friendly, and the prices aren't too steep, especially since there are always coupons. It is located in a strip mall with a Publix, so it can be easy to miss. However, the inside of the restaurant is very cozy and the atmosphere is great. You definitely don't feel as though you are in a strip mall. It is worth the visit! read more

I think 3.5 stars is a much fairer rating than a 3 star. I heard lots of good reviews about this place so I came in one Sunday afternoon to try it out. It was completely empty and devoid of life aside from the servers, which was great for us! My boyfriend doesn't like maki rolls so he ordered a bunch of appetizers and some sashimi. For me, I like maki and was stuck on choosing rolls since there was so much variety! They get higher ratings for the variety of rolls and presentation! We started off with the spicy mussels. They don't bake them, so they were room temperature. It was not warm at all, they just threw some spicy mayo on some mussels and called it done. I enjoy mine baked with the sauce to give it color and warmth. Missed the mark on this one. The next dish was the yellowtail with jalapeños. Good, nothing to hit home about since it's just the fish with veggies in some sauce. They pile a bunch of cut cucumbers underneath - part of their playing. We also got a seared beef appetizer (can't remember the name) but again, nothing to hit home about. We also got shumai and gyoza, nothing incredible, a bit small. My boyfriend tried ordering some toro and something else but they were out of both. He said the sashimi he got was decent, nothing crazy. For my rolls, I got the one with steak on top with asparagus and spicy salmon and tuna and then the White Geisha. I've never had the soybean wrapper but I don't think I like it, the texture is not as flavorful or firm as the standard seaweed. I also don't really like eel like that so I didn't enjoy it as much. The steak one was ok as well, I'm not a huge fan of raw meat like that. The top looked seated but the underside looked completely raw. One HUGE thing to note is that the rolls were supposed to have crunch in it. I think there was either so much inside or they let it sit longer than it should have and the crunch went soggy, so both rolls were completely soggy. Not to mention that the rolls were huge. It can be a good thing but for me, it was bad because I got tired of the sogginess of both rolls. I tried to force myself to eat the rolls cause I hate to waste but I ended up leaving half of both rolls. Idk if I just missed the mark on the rolls but it was not my favorite sushi experience. Maybe it was an off day, maybe not. The price would probably prevent me from going - a bit pricey for the rolls. However, maybe I will try different rolls again in the future. read more
