They have exceeded my reality.. between Ranch 99 and this place if you can't find an Asian food drink canned food SAKE seasoning anything fresh or frozen to create world class Asian dishes these are the 2 places to go. The newest addition of their 10.95 per pound hot food take out. Deal deal deal. The best one is in the newly remodeled Tokyo on PCH next to Best Buy. Love Tokyo Central, it is my favorite Japanese supermarket, hands-down. They have everything you need when it comes to the world of Japanese. Wonderful selections of to-go items for lunch a lot of fresh fish, natto, frozen items, fresh meat, it's a supermarket that was pulled out of Japan is what I feel like. They have a lot of everything Japanese what can I say. This one in Gardena has a great selection of "other" items in the Japanese world like bowls and dishes and chopsticks and things you would need in the kitchen and a Japanese home. read more

I KEEP SAYING THIS. Although I LOVE my local Tokyo Central, I have to say it's the weakest one in terms of how impressive and expansive it is. After going to the Tokyo Central in Gardena, I am convinced this is the most impressive and powerful one, only to be rivaled by San Diego's 3 separate buildings. The architecture is unique from the get go, sort of looking like a fancy green house from the front. They do have a bustling food court with lots of yummy foods ranging from takoyaki, to katsu, to baked goods. The market itself is 2 stories, but I believe the top floor is meant for staff only. Regardless, it is QUITE SPACIOUS with lots of items and products that I don't see at my local Tokyo Central, nor do I see at the Marukai that I visit here and there during Little Tokyo trips. There's a lot more anime and kawaii merchandise as well as home goods, kitchenwares, and décor that I don't often see. Like... I even saw them selling bathing suits here too! The hot foods and deli bar is quite expansive. If I weren't in such a hurry, I think I'd be lost in here for another hour or so. There's a lot to look at and see, even if you've been to the other Tokyo Centrals and if you don't need to buy anything. Hopefully I can head back here again soon! read more

Tokyo Central is incredible! Coming from HI, it's been tough to find my favorite Hawaiian and Japanese products and food. This place is HUGE, with a ton of options for everyone, from soaps to Japanese knives to seafood and food ingredients, etc, they have so many options. I don't live nearby, but I gladly brave the LA freeways to shop here. Maybe a little overpriced, but it is otherwise fantastic. read more

The largest Japanese market in California. This place truly has everything from food to clothing to electronics. There are other locations of Tokyo Central in LA, but this is by far the largest one. Parking is extremely easy because there is a large free parking lot attached. They also have a sushi restaurant that just opened inside recently that is located on the second floor. It's easy to grocery shop here but also to get premade food for lunch or dinner. read more

I was in the area and made a point to check out this "largest japanese market". I was pleasantly surprised how organized this market was. It was very clean and full of many things! I liked how (mostly) everything was labeled in English as most of the items were labeled in japanese. The staff was friendly and very welcoming, the only issue was most didn't speak English well. Here you can get some sushi rolls, rice cakes, sashimi, udon, Ramen and mochi without having to break the bank. I really enjoyed the benton bowls they have here and the beverages including the ice teas and matcha they have. It's a portal to Japan--without the jet lag, currency exchange, or explaining to your boss why you're suddenly taking two weeks off for a "spiritual kombu journey." Tokyo Central Gardena is the Disneyland of Japanese markets: massive, magical, and mildly overwhelming (in the best possible way). I came in for miso. I left with three kinds of furikake, a bento box, a matcha whisk, face masks infused with sake, and a mild addiction to Japanese milk bread. The prepared food section? Dangerous. Affordable, hot, and suspiciously good. Like, "Did someone's grandma sneak in and make this curry?" good. And don't even get me started on the bakery. If carbs are wrong, I don't want to be right. Need a sushi lunch? They've got chefs trained in Japan. Need a rice cooker, ceramic tea set, anime ramen bowl, or a novelty pen shaped like a sushi roll? Boom. Aisle 9 probably. This place is awesome!!! I just wish l live nearby! It takes me back to my trip to Tokyo few months ago when I went shopping multiple times at Don Quixote. They're both owned by the same company. This place is huge, luckily not as crowded as I thought it would be on a Saturday. Ordered Osechi this year. It's a bit different than the homemade Osechi I'm used to. However, this is ordered online (November in my case). Picked up on New Years Eve from customer service. VERY easy to do. Their store portion was of course an absolute ZOO! Which was expected. Thankfully I shopped early in the week for other items. Ordered the 3-tiered Osechi. This market is huge! I think it even has a restaurant upstairs I didn't get to explore. We easily spent 1.5 hours there, looking at everything then really deciding what to get. Lots of snacks and hot food. They have a little shopping cart for the young ones. My daughter filled hers up! I got blue fin tuna ($19.99), takoyaki ($4), seafood inari ($8.99). All were pretty good quality. I wanted to get other sushi platters but the maguro tuna just didn't seem as fresh. Still good price and quality. We also got some pinkglow pineapples which were pretty sweet. Soooo many items like cosmetics, toys, even gundam models to build. Definite must because there's so much to see in this store, and with plenty of parking. read more

I love love love this grocery store. I prefer it over Ralph's, Vons, Costco. If you've ever been to Japan and you want to feel like close to Japan i definitely would recommend going to this location. I feel like this location offers a wider selection of options compared to the Torrance one. The customer service is good. The pricing is affordable, and the grocery store is very clean and organized. Happy to see this place finally open, but the experience was still a bit disappointing. Prices still seemed high but the variety was there. I like how you could get lost wandering the aisles. There are also separate sections for the sushi/sashimi vs the warm food bar, the latter of which is on the left side of the market when entering. The food court is also large and everything was clean. There's also a self-checkout that is well attended to by an employee and the space is large enough so you won't feel cramped. I like how there's a restaurant in this market too, which might be a similar place to the waka sakura conveyor-belt sushi in the Gardena location. read more

I have had this place in my bookmarks for like ever sooo excited to have came. This reminds me of the SMart that closed down only this one is larger and has a full restaurant upstairs. They have various samples and each sample has a pamphlet on the health benefits. I can assure you every single thing I sampled, I bought hahahaha. This was a Maurikai back in the day but now transitioned over to what it is now. I'd say it has improved substantially since before with food stalls and a wide range of food products, household goods, meats, groceries, desserts, sake etc.... The place is well managed and they have helpful workers throughout the store. I felt at home looking around and absorbing all the potential good eats to bring home to tryout. The store is clean and everyone going in was offered an umbrella bag and they were constantly mopping the floors to keep people from potentially slipping at the entrance. Ready to eat sushi, so I wasn't hungry but wanted a snack so I got the futomaki with Inari sushi. I also got a tray of the santa Barbara uni and paired it with sushi I got. The tray of Santa Barbara uni was amazing and reasonable tray for only 15 bucks. . I also found some gudetama tin can with cookie biscuits in it. I also got some random made in Japan tea bags sachets which is empty so you can fill your own loose leaf in it. Also found a cute made in Japan Kirby hand cream just for esthetics. . Overall this supermarket was huge. I came to check out the eats. It was worth it. There is plenty of parking which makes it more convenient. This place is a gem! I heard about this market from one of my friends and just decided to wing it and go on a weekday night when not so busy crowded. I was so surprised and in awww of cuteness and delicious yummies . I was literally there for two hours just surfing the isles one at a time taking it all in. Amazing products imported from Japan and some locally made. What I loved most about the market was the hot food section and sushi ready to go . Huge selection and amazing freshness. I went later in the day so after I think a certain time things go 20% off , so I got Wagyu skewers with imported Japanese rice and side salad $19.00 with 20% off and it was delicious. The seared salmon sushi over Japanese rice was amazing and so fresh. I love how the market is laid out , the second you walk in make a right ... ready food ....make a left desserts. Cute ambiance as each section has a theme and I can tell they take pride in making sure the customers shopping experience is fun and enjoyable. This store is selling frozen farm raised amberjack and calling it Hamachi and it is very pricey

Everything went well. The store is well stacked, food demonstrations with free food to taste and the sale items. But some items even if it's on sale I find it still a bit pricey compared to Korean market. It's a nice place to look around bring friends to enjoy the products of Japan. I will definitely come back to do my grocery shopping here for my Asian goodies. read more

This used to be a Marukai when I was younger but the outside and inside all look completely the same from what I remember, just with a different name! They have everything from housewares to skincare to snacks and food...tons of snacks and food! I love all the cooked food options they have too. Although this location is out of the way for me, I would definitely come back as this place is huge and offer a large amount of items for sale throughout their store. There is a huge variety of Japanese goodies here including stuff you would see in Japan. Meats, seafood, snacks, cosmetics, household items, etc. They also have items I haven't been able to find in my local Japanese markets and closer Tokyo Central location. Great variety of ready to eat foods as well including a hot bar selection and sweets. The price is also not as expensive as one may think. One thing I don't like about this place is its parking, so if you go when it's busy, you may just be circling around this giant market for awhile before you find parking. read more
