First visit. Easy to get to. Just a few miles directly off the freeway. Parking ample on a weekday and not too crowded. Offerings are PLENTY. I can't think of anything I couldn't find and there was so much more. The fresh food is the ticket. Sushi and sashimi galore, hot items, everything. Unfortunately the meat section was being repaired so all meat and fish were not out. Got things I didn't know I needed (wanted) like yuzu soy sauce and saimin noodles (SCORE) ... will be back just for the Hawaiian section (miss home). Check out was easy and friendly. Store overall was clean though with all the signage and products, a little overwhelming! Can't wait to go back to see all of the fresh meat and fish. And try the food court. read more

This place is different from the regular Asian market. You have all sorts of other items you can find. There's more sections other than groceries here. You can find a souvenir section where you'd get from the Island, a health and beauty section, a home goods section, some apparel and cute blind bags section, stationary section and then comes the snacks area and food. Their produce area is small and their live seafood even smaller. Lots of prices were in small portions and prices were reduced. Honestly the store...It's not how it use to be "Pre Covid" I remember they had a nice food court area too which is now only one bakery area. That's Sad, they had good food here too. Pros: -Compared to the other locations, this store feels more spacious because it has less foot traffic. -this location has produce bags as low as $1.49 the bag for old (nearly expired) or ugly looking produce. This is an absolute steal! Who cares how the fruit/vegetable looks like? Cons: -As of May 2026, the location is under construction so the food court area is closed off. -The smaller location defiantly carries less items which is to be expected. I had a bad experience the last time I was here a few years back when it was still under Marukai Market. The first thing I noticed was the Gentleman at the front door who not only greets the customers coming in and out of the store but took my Cart back once I was done loading my items. One he was walking away I noticed his Acuna Security Guard shirt which was surprising that he on top of everything else was The Store security as well. This place is abit off vibe then the one in OC. Stopped by to get some snack upon it opens but it just didn't feel warm or welcome vibe at all. The place has a huge parking lot so it helps but it's not quite clean both outside and inside. Also not well organized as I expected as in OC (nice and neat). If you only have 10 seconds to read this review, then here's my recommendation: This is a great place to buy eggs! At this writing, their eggs are 499 a dozen, which is cheaper than most major supermarkets. But that's not the major reason, the main reason is there eggs are great quality. But if you have more time, or much more time, then this is a huge store of Japanese groceries, toys, cosmetics, and knickknacks. The store has huge selections of everything you could imagine for the house. Japanese vegetables and food items are their specialties. Staff is eager to help, and efficient. I've been going to this location for many years now and I always am able to find most of the items I'm looking for. There's a sweets, noodles, drinks, refrigerated, frozen, and bento section. They also have a row of nothing but Japanese tea, a meat and produce area, and an area with discounted items. They have a small selection of rice, snacks, and beauty/body care products. In a corner of the store there's a bunch of anime, Sanrio, and other Japanese toys. In another corner they have a Beard Papa's, a meat bun place and a bakery. It's a pretty big store with lots of options that's located conveniently in a neighborhood off of Redondo Beach Blvd. Parking is normally easy to find, but when major holiday's are coming up it can be really crowded. Service is always nice and helpful. I've never had a problem. Oh and I think it changes every week, but the staff hides Don Penguin - If you find him I think you get a free candy or something. read more

This was my first time here, but I was happy to see such a large store with various Japanese and Hawaiian goods, as well as other Asian foods and cookware. There were games for kids and adults, as well as Shohei Otani shirts in honor of the Dodger player. One drawback, was the lack of shopping carts though, as there are only nine carts for shopping. I guess the carts can get in the way, and are often stolen, so it kind of makes sense to just use hand-held baskets. For the elderly though, this could be difficult to manage, as canned foods and other products can get pretty heavy. read more

This is one of my most favorite Tokyo Central stores in the SoCal region. It is located in a quieter neighborhood area of Gardena where the food court has 2 of my favorite stores and parking is really easy. I usually make it a point to come trek over here once a week. Saturday is a great day to buy bread from MamMoth Bakery, pork bun from Nikumanya, haul away liters of drinks, other essentials like mirin, my favorite snacks from the extensive snack aisle and houseware from the middle. I was so happy to find a perfect sized bowl with intricate duck designs recently here. It has become our household favorite. My dogs know exactly what they are getting when I whip out the duck bowls. Treat time!I can never stop marveling at all the knick knacks I find in the beauty aisle. I found a cooling body wash I loved using during the summer time. The customer service here is always wonderful too. I had a hard time finding cough drops and the employee there was more than happy to find me one that would fit my needs. I dislike super cooling sensation in my throat and ones that tastes like medicine. She showed me a milder peach flavored one that was perfect for the occasion. Another time, the older gentleman helped me find some empty boxes so I can put all the drinks in my trunk without it getting knocked over like bowling pins. He didn't have to help me, but was more than happy to locate some boxes for my convenience. Overall, I like how the layout of the store creates better customer traffic flow. It is also well lit and easy to navigate the area. There is no bumping into other customers or feeling crowded. Time feels slower here in a good way and I never feel that urge to get the essentials and leave as fast as I can. After visiting several Tokyo Central locations in recent times, I'm looking forward to returning to this particular Tokyo Central store to complete my weekly haul again. read more

This supermarket is heaven for Japanse treats. I wish it is closer to my house, they have everything from ramen, to donut, to matcha flavored pastries. I still pass by this store and every time I think back on what happened the day I decided not to ever come back again. I decided to check the reviews on Yelp and Google, and apparently this store and whoever they have employed are still up to the same negative uncalled for treatment. The review below mines in the screenshots was made 3 months ago. There are still several previous reviews too a year or so back that also express similar instances happening to them. I don't know what training is done for your employees and security, but it's crap. A running tendency is that even though a few in the 1* reviews have asked if they broke any law and would be willing to correct themselves, the security guard just shakes his head then continuing to stalk them after. Sign about no large bags? Reasonable. Yet somehow letting people in with large bags then randomly following even people who didnt break the rules? Very weird behavior. So yeah, never coming here still. Tokyo Central Gardena has a larger selection of things and Tokyo Central Torrance, despite it being small, has a variety that makes the store "big" in its own way. To anyone reading, your trips to those stores will not be wasted. Don't come to this store because one day even if you feel safe enough to be a regular goer, something in the heads of those working there will ticktick and spontaneously bam! They'll just sic security to follow you, the employees will look at you with such disgust as if you are a strange thing that shouldn't be there, and the whole time it will never be explained to you what you've done wrong. read more

Interesting market. I love the amount of Asian food and drinks items they have. Picked out 2 Sojus and 3 sakes at different price points to do a tasting at home. The energy of this place is a bit low in comparison to the two tierd Tokyo Central & Main. I am a frequent shopper at this store for years. Luckily I have not run into any issues (*knock on wood*) as I have read some of the negative feedback. This location is pretty organized and stocked with a lot of items. I mainly come here for their dry goods, and vegetables. I like that they have a section for unwanted fruits and vegetables for affordable prices for people like me who can't afford much. They are almost nearly going bad but most of them are still salvageable and decent quality and condition. They also sell a ton of merchandise and licensed products and brands on the side. Once upon a time, this Faerie Queen was excited to try a new location. This is a smaller, every day market. The fruits and vegetable were ok, but much was over ripe and/or lacked selection. I like this location compared to the other one found on Marukai St because parking is ample and I never have to fight for it. It's generally less crowded as well, so if you want a stress-free open environment come here. I think the inventory is pretty much the same as the other location, but sometimes I hit up both just because I like leisurely browsing. They have a different set of restaurants in their food court which is nice. I need to hit up the Beard Papa's and new Ramen place. My husband and I just grabbed a UCC coffee and yuzu salad dressing on our last visit. Sometimes I'll do my main shopping here, but other times I'll just grab snacks. The popcorn chicken with Yuzu Aioli dipping sauce was amazing and the takoyaki was made fresh to order with exquisite flavor and presentation. I am extremely disappointed and still deeply hurt by what happened to me at this store -- and by the silence that followed. I submitted a detailed review and reached out directly to the store, but management has ignored my message completely. No apology, no acknowledgment. Nothing. During that visit, I was simply shopping for groceries with my husband -- like any normal customer. I've never caused any problems here. I was quiet, respectful, and doing what all customers do: browsing products. But instead of being treated with basic decency, I was monitored, hovered around, and followed by multiple staff members as though I were a criminal. It was obvious, excessive, and deeply humiliating. As an Asian woman, I know exactly what this was: racial profiling. I was treated with suspicion for no reason other than the way I look. No matter how respectfully I carried myself or how normal my behavior was, they saw me as a suspect -- not a shopper. The way staff members circled around me, watched my every move, and hovered just a few feet away while pretending to "check inventory" was not subtle -- it was targeted. It made me feel unsafe and dehumanized. I am a loyal customer, a professional educator, and someone who contributes to my community. Yet in this store, I was treated like I didn't belong. That is unacceptable. To the management: your refusal to even acknowledge my message shows exactly why this behavior continues. Silence enables discrimination. Ignoring me doesn't erase what your employees did -- it only proves that Tokyo Central refuses to hold itself accountable. To other customers, especially people of color: if this has happened to you here, know that you're not alone. Our experiences matter. I came to this location many years ago when it was called something else. Either way this store is very impressive. They have upgraded the second floor that has a small restaurant now. There are all sorts of things you can buy fresh like sushi, inari and more. There are many aisles of drinks and snacks. It can get pretty busy and parking can be hit or miss but this is such an upgrade and I hope to come back again. read more

I usually buy a substantial amount of food (around $70-$100) I asked if they can get me ice and they said no. The quick grab and go section is A-OK! Currently for 4.99, they have an individually packaged spaghetti meals that a family member is a fan of. Sometimes, I pick up a tuna sandwich (branded as Joanna's) for only 3.99. A bit on the dry side but, I just add either mayo or mustard at home. They've got a selection of sushi and bento meals. As with the current inflation, the bento meals have increased in price. They have a sign up disclosing that due to safety of their staff, they've decreased production. There was only one day that they didn't have what I was looking for. If you are vegetarian, there are not much options in this section but, good pescatarian options like the salmon, brown rice, and veggies. They have a section of Hawaiian products ranging from sauces, pancake mixes, Hawaiian Sun drinks, nuts, chocolates, cookies, and more. Not a fan of the produce here though. Months ago, made a purchase that went bad quickly. The store has lots of cute Japanese toys and anime products. The novelty area even has costumes year round! The tiny food court options have often changed over the years. What has been constant are Mammoth Bakery, Nikuman-ya, and Beard Papa. The cashiers are mostly polite and the security guards have been courteous to me. There was one time I saw the guard helping a customer with a cart. 3.5 stars, rounded down to 3! read more

I actually coming to this location over the other Tokyo Central. Its a bit more organized and spacious. They have more home appliance and anime stuff too which is so fun to look at. The service is nice and quick. The market items are a bit pricey. I like this location for their parking and more options of home appliances. Def will be back read more
