When you go to Tokyo Central it feels like you are in Japan. Almost everything Japanese can be found here without the long flight to Japan. Looking for hamachi sashimi or sushi they had so many to choose from. There's even a full section of cooked Japanese food that you can purchase by the pound. Newly prepared each day. Customer service has gotten better. Haven't experienced any issues as before. As a suggestion, try not to block so many aisles with stocking carts during peak hours. It makes going through the store much more difficult. Schedule stocking before and after hours to make the shopping experience more enjoyable. Combed the different Tokyo Central locations looking for my favorite tea drink "Juroku Cha" but to no avail. Nevertheless, it was good to look around the different locations and shop for some snacks and drinks. I'll have to stop by again In a few days and pick up some goodies on my way back to LV. This location is my favorite since it has a huge prepared food section both hot and cold as well as a food court of good eats. I love Tokyo Central. I find my Japanese ingredients, food, fresh/clean vegetables, and more. Today, I bought a tempura pan to replace my old rusty one. I got my hard mochi so I can make kakimochi and try butter mochi. I found my shiso rakkyo in this store where I couldn't find in the other store. The service is excellent. Honestly, how can you not love this place? Yeah, sometimes the prices can be a bit high on things but what hasn't increased with inflation, COVID, supply chain shortages, and all the alike? A lot of these items are imported and the prices sometimes reflect it, but I really enjoy my experience shopping here, and in some ways I like it better the some of the Mitsuwas I have been to. They've taken COVID-19 precautions very seriously in the past which I appreciated, and they usually have everything I need when I walk in so kudos to them! Tokyo central is a one stop shop for all things Don Quijote related. I was just in Japan this past winter and was so happy to see that Tokyo Central was basically carrying most DQ goods. They also have an amazing selection of fresh poke, bento boxes, nigiri and hand rolls. The raw beef selection here was also quite good with lots of shabu meat options and more premium cuts of meats including A5 wagyu. Vegetables were decent but I'd probably explore other grocery stores as it can get quite expensive. Overall, it's a wonderful store with lots of Japanese goods besides food and can be a great place to buy some souvenirs. read more

My favorite Japanese market. Excellent prices and offerings; they have nearly everything. Great hot and cold foods as well. This is Marukai and Don Quijote (in Hawaii and internationally) under a different name, maybe because it is huge (there's a second floor!). I usually go here for my cooking supplies because they have the best prices on condiments, seasonings, and meat compared to any Japanese markets in LA. They will have everything Japanese you are looking for, guaranteed. I enjoy going to their upstairs to look at Japanese appliances (get your Zojirushi rice cookers here for perfect rice everyday), cute toys, and other household goods. They even have a cosmetic, health, and kitchen supplies section on the left side of the market! The bentos and hot food is what I love here the most. Even their sushi is done beautifully at a great piece! $6.50 for spicy tuna roll that isn't just rice? Damn, makes me not want to eat at certain overly expensive Japanese restaurants that offer nearly..I mean exactly the same taste. Even the food court is excellent! The only reason I give it a 4 is cause I feel like I always spend too much money here, maybe that's my own fault though. They have everything. The best snacks, prepared food, frozen foods, drinks. It's a great place to pick up a quick lunch, pick up most Asian pantry staples, or your favorite Japanese skin care products. What a find! It's a markukai super store. Great selection of Japanese food and gifts at such a deal! There's ample parking and lots of things to explore. Will come each month for green tea (better value than Costco!). Will come in Advent to get office gifts of different values - interesting fun Japanese snacks and alcohol. So many types of mochi ice cream, drinks and spam flavors. If I'm passing through will glad you stop by for the dessert or even ready made fish. First time at Tokyo Central and I thoroughly enjoyed. It's huge and I didn't get to go upstairs but will definitely go back to see what treasures I can find on the 2nd level. The grocery or main level is massive with lots of prepared meals, sushi/sashimi as you enter .... Everything looks so fresh I wanted to buy one of each. I did buy a platter of various sushi with about 8 or 9 pieces and it was perfect lunch for about $14. It was very fresh and their sushi rice is so good and tasty. Their meat and seafood department is impressive with the variety of meats/fish/seafood, in cuts and in quantity. There's lots of all sorts of other things but like in any first time visit, it was a little difficult to navigate around the store.... For some reason, the store didn't feel very well lit. The seafood is always fresh, the employees are awesome and friendly, and their prices beat anything you can find at all restaurants (obviously). The line sometimes looks long, but you'll be surprised at how fast it moves. If you want good cheap sashimi, you have to come here. We come all the way from the San Gabriel Valley because it's so worth it! I wish we had a Tokyo Central there and in Norcal too - I'd go like every week. All of their sashimi we've had tastes great and they give you plenty of wasabi and soy sauce too. If it's not enough, you can always ask them for more! And don't forget to ask for ginger packets as well! Something I love about their sashimi platters is that they sit the sashimi on piles of sliced radish, which are soo good with the sashimi - especially the fattier fishes. The radish is a palette cleanser and helps between bites. Just typing about it makes me want more... Anyway, all their sushi and sashimi is so reasonably priced and tastes great. Their groceries range from cheap to expensive, depends on the items, but there are so many good things in the market. They have some yummy Japanese treats that you can't find anywhere else! They also have a food court out front - we used to come a lot for Sushi Boy, but on our recent visits we've been going to Tenkatori for really good fried chicken. Love this store! We've always had a wonderful experience here . Today the cashier Edna M was very rude and condescending. As soon as I started unloading my stuff she did not greet me back and was insisting I give her my ID to purchase a canned drink. After , I wanted a raffle ticket since I paid over $100 but because I paid with my ebt card , I didn't qualify, which is okay. I understand but regardless she could have approached it different. I decided to leave some ship that she had scanned already and she was very abrasive with removing it from my cart before I paid. COVID review: While this Tokyo Central is not the closest to me, I will make the trek to Gardena because this is a solid location to buy my Japanese and Hawaii grocery staples. Depending on the time of day there may or may not be a line to get in. Even with a line the longest I've waited is 30 minutes. The line generally moves quickly. Overall the produce selection is good. The vegetables are fresh and I appreciate the variety of Asian vegetables. The meat section is also pretty solid. I often buy shabu shabu meats simply because it's easy to cook and good quality. They also sell Harris Ranch meat which is also tasty. Strangely I couldn't find Spam anywhere in the store. I think they've been out for awhile. I did find silicone Spam Musubi makers for cheap. The Hawaii section is overpriced but when you need Hawaiian Sun juice or Diamond Head soda crackers, you can find it here. They also sell Portuguese Sausage and Zippy's chili (frozen). I go a bit crazy in the snack, seasoning, condiment, and drink sections. That's where I get weak! I love to try different senbei, furikake, shoyu, chile sauces, and drinks (to name a few). The rice section is has a wide variety of rice from the US and Japan. While I grew up on Hinode rice, I like to get Akita Komachi whenever possible. The appliance and home goods section is also pretty amazing. Just beware prices can be expensive depending on the item. Most recently I purchased a fancy Zojirushi IH rice cooker that I can't wait to try out. According to my friend this rice pot makes amazing rice! The folks that work here are all pretty nice and and helpful. Parking is ample and I haven't had trouble finding a space. This is definitely one of my favorite places to grocery shop when I have the time and need to get Japanese/Hawaii food stuffs. read more

The amount of Japanese markets and abundance of products outweighs the variety available in NorCal, this franchise being one of my favorites to visit when I'm in town. I assume that Tokyo Central is the mainland's interpretation of Don Quijote which is a franchise that is seen in Hawaii and Japan. I love visiting new Japanese markets and I have noticed that this one by far has the largest selection of items that aren't seen in most stores, from souvenirs or omiyage that are shipped directly from Japan and all of the ingredients you'd need to replicate Japanese dishes at home. My boyfriend and I stopped by here to pick up some soju and snacks to enjoy during our stay, I can honestly spend a fortune here just on food alone which is dangerous being that I'm not able to enjoy everything in such little time and barely had any room in my carry-on to bring home hahaha. There's also a small takoyaki stand near the front entrance as you walk in and if I hadn't had plans for dinner, I would've tried it but there's always next time! read more

I've been coming here for years and I've never lived close to it. Just a really great store with great variety. I come here with no expectations, but I always come out with a full bag. I mostly only buy food and alcohol here, as that's really the main feature. But they have more. Anime/gaming merchandise, seasonal things, households, almost all Japanese imports. Some are domestic or from other countries but the collection of items are great. What I always look at is the wall of chilled drinks; sodas, teas, other drinks. Then the alcohol wall, but I always end up getting Orion because it's readily available here. After that I check out the kimchi section, the canned fish, and rice or pasta seasonings. I've shopped for produce here on occasion for the stuff you can't always find elsewhere and the quality is very good. There's practically nothing negative to say here really. Some of the prices maybe are considered steep but it's more about the variety that they have here you don't always see elsewhere. read more

This review is for September 2023. This store is 2 levels. My family and I came here a few times whenever we're in Los Angeles. There's a lot of merchandise but one thing I did not see in the store which I was looking for was the roasted rice for green tea. I have not been able to find this in any Asian food stores. The last time I bought roasted rice for my green tea in an Asian grocery store was back in the early 2000's. I thought that they would have it here in a Japanese grocery store but no luck. I did find the Genmaicha which has the roasted rice but I only want to purchase the roasted rice by itself. read more

Before I start I'd like to say I love Japanese snacks. I always have, because they are so unique. That's the reason why I come here. I've gone twice to this spot and I love it. I don't remember if I have done a review the first time I went, but oh well. Here's another if I did. I got a few snacks. I bought onigiri, because I enjoyed it last time I came here. I would have loved it fresh, but it's pretty good for the go and inexpensive if you're ballin on a budget. I also got the chocolate mochi. It does taste like chocolate, but honestly, I should have gotten something else. It's never very appealing for my taste. I did enjoy the peach jelly and melon sorbet. The peach jelly taste amazing and it comes in a cute pouch. When you squeeze the jelly no liquid comes out like more Asian jellies I've had. So it's quiet convenient. The melon sorbet came in a cute melon shaped plastic case of. You unscrew the top so you can eat the sorbet from the bottom of the melon shaped case. I also got these potato chips dipped in chocolate. Honestly should have gotten the Royce brand. I felt that was better then the one I got. It was still ok though. The soy pudding tasted pretty good also. Like sweet soft tofu. Overall snacks were pretty fun. I'm excited to come back and get more of the jellies. read more
