I was brought here due to an intriguing post on Instagram of a two-day limited event called "All You Can Pack Veggies". I imagined it was a variety of vegetables including eggplant and kale (they were pictured in the post). But the reality was that it was selected and limited varieties set up just right outside the grocery store. We were given a small see-through bag we could fill with carrots, potatoes, mini bell peppers and cherry tomatoes. You can fill it, but it can't tear the bag or be overflowing (sticking out from the top is ok)--for $2.99. Although I was disappointed that it didn't have the vegetables I was fantasizing about, it was still a very good deal and we did get quite a bit of the above produce for that price. I just wish they were up front in their promotion instead of making it seem like there would be more variety. And also, it lead us to check out this location so that's a positive. This store itself is quite beautiful though. It's large and has some beautiful pre-made meals and snacks, hot food, and a wide array of Japanese and Asian groceries. The workers that we encountered were also very friendly. And parking is plentiful (although I imagine it can get crowded). read more

I went to Best Buy for something and as I was leaving, I saw this store. As someone who lived in Japan for three years, it was amazing to see so many familiar items! The food looked delicious and they have all the salty snacks I remember loving. I'm not sure about the prices, I just bought snacks and one hot meal. I'll definitely be back and it has a HUGE parking lot, unlike that cramped one at TJ's. read more

Love me some Tokyo Central! So thankful this is super close to me! This Tokyo Central is right next to Best Buy on PCH and Hawthorne. Sometimes I come here for lunch and dinner. Lol. For lunch - they have a buffet style and the food is bomb! The Umami Karaage chicken is my favorite! I can keep going back for that! I usually also get the fried rice, the noodles, the teriyaki chicken, and the shrimp wonton. Seriously! So bomb! For dinner - That's the time to get the sushi! 20% off! Everything is bomb there. Choose what you want! You won't be disappointed. Sometimes I go grocery shopping here. Tokyo Central will complete me once they bring over all the snacks from Family Mart in Japan. Lol. My go to spot for ready made meals. You have to go earlier in the day for the options to be fresh. Going after 7pm offers a discount but most of the food is gone and had been sitting out. Amazing hot bar. Reliable sushi. I recommend the oden soup. The bread is soft but has a short shelf life. Wish they sold better bottled water. read more

The newest location in the South Bay area. Just opened a few weeks ago. Prime location off PCH/Hawthorne Blvd in the former Stein Mart building. Was in the area and decided to pop in to take a quick look. We usually visit the West Covina or Gardena locations so was excited to check this one out. Lots of parking out front. Very bright and immaculate interiors. Has your typical J-goods and loads of deli items. Good thing we just had lunch and didn't go in hungry because everything looked good! Pre-made sushi rolls, sashimi platters, bento boxes, onigiri. Didn't have the chance to check out the produce or refrigerated/freezer sections (because I was focused on finding a particular item) but I'm sure they have the same (if not more) that other locations offer. Checkout was fast and friendly. They also offer self-checkout! Note: although there is some sorta music playing in the background, it's not cranked up loud like the Gardena location...just something I appreciated! Worth checking out if in the area! read more

Recently opened location here in the South Bay off of PCH and Hawthorne blvd next tot he Best Buy! Was stoked to see this location open which was a little bit closer to me. The other location off of Hawthorne blvd and Sepulveda is still great too. But this new location is much larger and with an open layout. The store is pristine and well organized. Fresh sushi and sashimi as you walk in to your right and so many options to choose from. This location has fresh food stands inside with open seating as well as a self serve buffet with a great selection of hot foods. Great for grab and go! There're microwaves located near the food court in the event you needed it. All of the staff I've encountered there are super friendly with the checkout process efficient as well with both cashiers and self checkout options. Check it out! read more

Located off PCH in Torrance right next to Best Buy. Recently just opened. It's a nice large store they have a food court as well inside. There are well displayed signs of products there are so much to look and find at Tokyo Central but they still have good deals on items and lots of goodies to find and get. The check out area was pretty fast as well and they also have self service check out as well. Overall nice store parking much better than the Gardena location which I came from there was no parking available on a Sat in the afternoon. The good: This Japanese market is much more spacious than the other location nearby by Daiso. They have cute small kids' shopping carts for "shoppers in training." They have self checkout stations. There's plenty of parking. I'm happy they opened a closer location for me. The bad: The workers didn't know what kind of sweet potato I chose and didn't know how to look it up and price it. The interesting: I came during their opening day but couldn't wait in line because I had toddlers so I returned a few days later. There's a sushi restaurant in the front. They have small Japanese claw machines in tbe ground as well as small food stands. read more

On a Xmas day morning, my family and I drove to new Tokyo Central. It didn't look busy inside. The food court is next to the entrance and it is very clean. The aisles are clean and well stock. The signage is not busy as the main gardena location. They also have a hot bar of tempura, soup, karaage, bento bowls. Lots of good deals throughout the market. This appears to be a just opened Tokyo Central location in the old Staples space next to Best Buy. Outstanding food selection. Helpful and efficient staff. I came here for their soft opening and I was super impressed. I've been to their Gardena location and I think this location is bigger and brighter and has better parking. I would say they carry the same kind of merchandise as other locations but they have lesser selection of home goods and cosmetics. The food court is smaller and there's also a sushi restaurant. I will probably stick to the Gardena location as it's more convenient to get to but will come back if I'm in the area again. read more

Having been to other Tokyo Central stores in the South Bay, this is definitely the largest and most impressive. Huge market with fresh selection of seafood, groceries, sliced shabu meat, sauces, rice and snacks, drinks, bakery goods, sushi rolls and sashimi, pottery, kitchen items, makeup and toiletries, hot items, grab and go meals, etc. I loved how they had a whole selection of onigiri (rice balls), bento boxes, and one serving drinks that reminded me of the convenience stores in Japan. I was pleasantly surprised by how everything looked clean and organized. The fresh florals were a little expensive for what they are compared to Trader Joe's. The cafeteria wasn't as impressive either. It could be that they are new but I hope to see more selections in the cafeteria in the future. There is so much potential. I got a vanilla ice cream cone at Osanji for $2.19. I enjoyed it as I walked around the market. I have lived in the South Bay for decades and have seen this location go through so many changes. I remember it used to be an Office Max/Staples and throughout the years, this plaza became quiet and empty. This Tokyo Central is definitely going to make this plaza more popular and lively. Wishing them the best of luck in the coming years. So thankful that we finally have a Tokyo Central closer to those who live on the hill. read more

This is the best Japanese supermarket I've been to in the US. I guess the only real comp is Mitsuwa as other chains like Nijiya are a lot smaller. They've got a huge variety of stuff from Japan (and Hawaii) as well as a a great hot food and sushi section. Apparently the Bay Area is getting one in Emeryville, which is very exciting. read more

I usually love going to Tokyo Central- there's always so much to see and buy, and I love the variety of snacks, groceries, and household stuff they carry. It's one of my favorite spots for finding unique Japanese items. That said, my last two visits haven't been great. The meat section, in particular, has been a letdown. There was a weird smell both times, and it really made me question how fresh the meat actually is. It used to be something I could trust, so that was pretty disappointing. I came to check out this new location after a morning appointment out here. Of course it's very nice since it's brand new. Their prepared foods looked really attractive. Like their other locations, they had a very wide selection of Japanese items and products. What I especially liked and what stood out in the store and in the aisles was the large signs with the products/categories labeled which made it very easy to locate what you're looking for. Another location opened in Torrance! I went there on the grand opening day to see how it is and wow.., unbelievably long line was formed at 9:45am. That just discouraged me to go, so I went back home but I tried going there again in the evening after I picked up my son from his soccer practice around 5:30pm. No queue and easily got in. First you see the food court on the left and the Sushi restaurant on the right side of the building. Spacious and very bright interior just like the supermarket in Japan. I was pretty amazed by the selection of the food products and the size of the supermarket. This store might be bigger than the Gardena store. Easy to shop, starts from the frozen food area, produce, drinks, snacks, cosmetics and kitchen related stuffs, and hot food and bento area. Every rows were wide and the products were neatly displayed. Staffs were helpful and positive even though they were very busy. Definitely going to shop here from now on!
