Got some food to go here again and they absolutely crushed it! They have my new favorite wings. The flavor in each bite was ridiculously savory. Decided to try their dim sum this time. Har gow was plump with shrimp and I think ginger. The shu mai were large and had a delicious filling that left me wanting more. The BBQ pork fried rice was fluffy and they gave us a large portion. My friend and I shared it all and agreed they have not disappointed and is probably our new go to Chinese local spot. I already want more of their wings! Mmm!

I tried Tokyo Express under the new management for the first time, and am happy that I did. I took out the lunch chicken combo ($9.95 + $1.50 chow main upgrade =$11.50) and a full order of BBQ fried rice. ($11.95) Good food. No surprise. It felt like good ol' Chinese food. No authentic hidden foreign spices. Good sweetness and saltiness, not too greasy. WOW! A LOT OF FOOD! The takeout containers were packed with food. Two adults ate the two dishes for two meals. GREAT PRICE! In addition, they are having the 10% off promotion. Can't beat the value! The lady at the counter was nice, the food came out quickly while I waited. I would call in ahead next time. The only con was that the chicken pieces had a skin on them in the chicken lunch. I just don't like chicken skin so much. My hubby does not like Chinese food in general, but he approved their BBQ fried rice to repeat! Yay! Open till 8:00 for dinner takeout now.

Stopped by on a Wednesday evening. First time here and we had a great experience. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive. Always checking on us to see if we needed anything. The food was yummy! My favorite: the walnut shrimp and cream cheese wontons. I'd definitely order those again. But they have an extensive menu so I'll be back to try something different. There's plenty of parking and lots of tables and chairs to sit inside. We dined in but it looked like they get a lot of to go / pick up orders.

I'm usually ordering their lunch special during my lunch breaks but decided to grab a couple items for dinner and I have to say the food did not disappoint.

I would also pass by this place often and it caught my eye, I wanted to enjoy some time to myself and eat a good meal so I finally walked in, The setting was nice, I felt comfortable especially when I was greeted by the friendly man, He had great energy and his mannerism was on point, He made me feel at home and acknowledged me, He told me what type of food they offered and listed the different options of the versatile menu, He seated me and brought me out a snack while waiting, I went for the Teriyaki bento box, The flavors were delicious and the serving had me full, I already started eating before taking a photo, He made sure to be attentive to anything I needed, Great customer service and great food, I'm definitely coming back!

A friend who lives nearby had been raving about it, so we finally went, and I'm glad we did. Two Japanese sushi chefs behind the counter--always a reassuring sign--set the tone right away. The three of us, longtime friends, all ordered chirashi dons. No hesitation, no need to compare notes--just trust. And it paid off. Fresh, generous, beautifully composed. Good friends, good food--it really does make life feel simple and full. We'll definitely be back soon.

It was Sunday night and we were driving back to Escondido from Anaheim. GPS says they close at 9:30 PM. We roll in at exactly 9:05 PM. Place still had customers inside, open tables, and two hostesses literally started walking us to a table. The male host said, "Last call is in 10 minutes." Cool. I jokingly ask, "For alcohol?" because I wanted TWO damn sushi rolls, not a 12-course feast. He says with a smile, "No. Last call for food and everything else." Okay... easy day. We already knew exactly what we wanted. Simple order. In and out. No biggy. Then came the look. You know the look. The "damn it, I want to go home, why did customers show up during business hours?" look from management and the sushi chefs. Next thing you know, manager says we cannot be served. Wait... what happened to "last call in 10 minutes?" Suddenly now it is, "You missed last call at 9:00 PM." It was 9:06 PM. So your establishment closes at 9:30 PM... but actually closes at 9:00 PM... but also has a last call in 10 minutes... but also refuses service? Got it. Crystal clear. Listen, if y'all want to leave at 9:00, then change the damn hours to 9:00. Do not advertise 9:30 and have people driving 70 miles just to get hit with attitude and false hope. So we walked out and went somewhere else. Being turned away wasn't the problem. The problem was being treated like customers showing up during YOUR posted business hours was somehow our fault. Change your damn hours to 9:00 pm then. Do better!

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't ... bad. It just wasn't really all that great either. The sushi rolls are well made and beautiful to look at, however the flavors themselves were either clashing or simply disappointing. We began with a California Roll, basic in taste and usually a good measuring stick of technique of the chefs. Here, it was clean, well rolled, and pretty tasty. It was a nice start. Then we moved onto the Golden Mountain Roll. When it hit the table, it became a testament of the care that the cooks put into making sure that what they serve looks as good as it can. The roll was deep fried, held up well under cutting, and had a meticulous drizzle over the top. I wish I had more pics of it to share. Flavorwise, it was okay. I'm not fond of cream cheese in sushi, but it had nice heat from the jalapeños, and I wish it had a bit more salt to pair along with the sweet of the crab meat and sauces. We then had a Dragon Roll, an incredibly well crafted and plated master creation that made our eyes boggle when the server placed it on the table. It was stuffed with meat, beautifully topped with ribbons of eel, avocado, and sauce, and it had perfectly proportional dragon ears at the head end of the roll. And yet, the roll itself was oddly dry and kind of flavorless. Last we tried the Tangy Mango Roll. Again, visually this was sublime. It was gorgeous and fantastically crafted. On paper, the flavors really sound like they should work. But, the cream and mango are a bit overwhelming in both taste and texture, making the roll itself more of a novelty instead of a delicious treat. In the end, I can't help but think that if we chose different fare off the menu, we probably would have had walked away with a much different opinion of Umai. With so many other sushi spots closer to home, it may be difficult to come out again with the entire family, so I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to update. Because of that, I have to say I'm stuck with a pretty slightly below average view of Umai Sushi.

The service is consistently great. They always make us feel welcome and this time they took care of us even though we came in right before closing. We ordered three sushi rolls, but honestly they never stood a chance. We ate them so fast I completely forgot to take pictures. If you're a sushi fan, get the Dragon Crunch Roll. It disappeared from our table in record time. We also ordered the house special fried rice, chicken teriyaki ramen, beef and chicken yakisoba, and the Korean popcorn chicken. The fried rice was packed with flavor and had a little bit of everything. The yakisoba was delicious, the ramen was comforting, and the Korean popcorn chicken was perfectly crispy with a nice little kick. It also came with miso soup, salad, and rice, which was more than enough food. Nothing here is overcomplicated. It's just good food, good portions, and genuinely great service every time. When we're trying to decide where to eat, Three Go Sushi is usually the answer. We'll definitely be back. Hopefully next time I'll remember to take pictures of the sushi before it's gone.
