My husband and I have been meaning to try this spot for a while now. We ended up trying it out on a Monday night. It was 5:00 and only one other family was eating, but they had a lot of to go orders. Despite their to go orders, service was great. We were promptly greeted and sat. Our drinks were brought to us quickly as well. Our food also came out quickly. We ordered Pepper Fin t share and then I got a 49er roll and my husband got a double spicy roll. We both really liked the pepper fin. We also enjoyed our rolls. My only critique is that the rolls were rolled very loosely. The pieces feel apart as soon as they were separated. I would definitely come back. There is a beautiful mural along the back wall that really is a nice piece of the restaurant. It's small, but so delicious! read more

Great lil spot that hits the spot! Family owned business, the owners are the sweetest! The restaurant is clean and well maintained. My husband ordered the teriyaki bento box, my daughter ordered the spicy salmon roll, and I ordered the spicy tuna. We also ordered Miso soups for our appetizers. We were also given Korean glass noodles, on the house to taste test. Everything was delicious! Generous portions as well as reasonably priced. I love the creamy sesame salad dressing . The tempura was light and not greasy at all. I liked that they served the teriyaki sauce separately so you can control how much sauce is on the chicken based on your preference. Our rolls were served with a little spicy mayo and I believe eel sauce on the side of the plate ( nice touch! My daughter and I are sauce people lol) The Korean glass noodles were nicely mixed with veggies and small beef slices. Yummy!! First time at Tokyo Express. We've been wanting to try this place, but we always fill up with popcorn after seeing a movie at SMG. Anyway, they greet you when you come in. It has a homey vibe for me. The food comes out fast, and the ramen was perfectly hot. We ordered sushi, jjajangmyeon, and champon ramen. They were all good! The champon ramen is perfect for the cold weather. It has a lot of toppings - pork, clams, shrimp, and mussels. It was a lot. I didn't even finish my bowl. They use thin noodles with their jjajangmyeon; I prefer thick noodles, but that's not a deal-breaker. read more

We stopped by the little gem on our way to Reno and this place was pretty good. We ordered the miso ramen. The kid liked it. The miso flavor she said reminded her of mom's cooking so I guess I'm a pretty good cook. The only thing she didn't care for was the meat. She said she would rather have tofu. My youngest kiddo also slurped the ramen. I ordered a roll but forgot the name. I enjoyed the roll. But the rice was a tad bit hard. But the overall flavor of the roll was good. I like how this place does not drizzle sauce on the roll so you can actually taste the fish. Which did not leave a fishy mess. The hubs ordered the bimbimbap and he was satisfied. I tried it and it was flavorful. Last we ordered a kid's chicken teriyaki. Compared to other places that offer kids meal. This one has less chicken and rice and normally a kids meal at other spots will fill my son's belly but this one he ended up eating some of his sister's ramen. Also ordered a mixed shrimp and veggie tempura plate. Loved the lightness of the salad dressing. The kids loved the tempura batter. So far this place was really good. We ordered the chicken teriyaki and the beef yaki noodle. I really enjoyed the chicken teriyaki plate. They do however give about 3/4 cup of rice. For how much chicken it has, it seems a little light on the rice. But the chicken was really good and cooked how I had imagined. I was in the area running errands and had just picked up a sandwich next door at Jersey Mike's for my husband and saw the Grand Opening sign outside. I love sushi, so I decided this would be my lunch. I walked in and was immediately greeted by a staff member behind the counter, they asked if I was dining in or taking out and when I said it would be to go, she gave me a menu to look over. They do have a menu on the wall, but they offer so many items that the text was a bit too small for me to read. I looked over the menu and decided to keep it simple for this visit and get a Caterpillar Roll ($13.50) and Pan Fried Gyoza ($8.50). I paid and took a seat by the doors to wait. They have a good amount of seating inside and it's open, well lit and has a fun mural on the wall. I was there at about 12:45pm and there was a group eating at the time, but it wasn't crowded. My food didn't take too long and the nice staff person brought my bag to me and wished me a nice day. When I arrived home I was excited to dig in. The Caterpillar roll looked like it may have fallen over during the drive, and the avocado on top looked fresh and bright green. Once I went to pick it up with chopsticks though, I realized it was falling apart and hard to grasp with chopsticks. After taking a bite it seems the rice may have been overcooked, it was a very mushy texture and as I continued eating it the roll turned more into a rice, avocado, unagi mixture in the takeout box. I also noticed that the unagi was not super prevalent in each bite, it was there but definitely smaller pieces. I'm not sure if the Caterpillar roll was a bad choice, if it was an off day, or something else but usually when I order simple rolls it allows the ingredients to shine through and this didn't wow me. The Gyoza was still crispy when I got home and I enjoyed the sweet vinegar sauce that came with them. The outside is a thin wrapper and the inside is a mix of meat and veggies. If I come back I'll try something different from the menu, although previous reviews raved about the sushi. This leads me to think I may have caught them on a bad day. Overall it was OK and the service and atmosphere was great, but there are a lot of local sushi spots and overcooked, mushy rice shouldn't make it out of the kitchen. read more

This place is absolutely fantastic--some of the best service I've ever experienced at a sushi restaurant. I've visited multiple times, and every time the staff is unbelievably friendly and welcoming. On one occasion, we were even treated to a complimentary appetizer, and every visit feels like we're being welcomed by family! They're fast, helpful, flexible, and the sushi is good. The sushi is consistently fresh and delicious. Some of our go-to rolls are the Rocklin Roll, Teriyaki Chicken Roll, and the Lish Roll. We're also big fans of the chicken udon--comforting and flavorful. I tried the chirashi once too, and it was super fresh with great flavor. I checked the place out based on yelp reviews. Food is mediocre, nothing to rave about. The server asked me how spicy I wanted my Ramen, I said, medium. Seemed like a very standard question to ask the customer. However, when I got my bill, I was charged a dollar for spicy level. This is very strange, never seen it anywhere else before. Wow! Only open a month but they have it nailed! Had the Aloha Roll, GaFun Roll, and the Chef's Special Tokyo Roll and they were all priced well compared to other sushi restaurants I frequent. All were amazing, flavorful and so big! The Tokyo Roll pieces wouldn't fit in my mouth and I needed to take two bite. Spongy flavorless tuna, a handfull of salmon trimmings piled up, and some terrible hamachi that looks like it was pulled out of a package pre-cut for nigiri. Total Rip off.. left is bbq albacore which was overcooked and dry, swimming in some juice. Not even grocery store quality, but mukini prices. First time was the last time. I couldn't finish it, so $20 of the $60 is in the trash. Asked for extra wasabi and ginger, nope. Thank goodness I had soy sauce at home because they left it out.
