We were looking for a good sushi spot or simply a nice place to enjoy our Friday evening. Since we pass by this location frequently, we decided to finally give it a try. The ambiance was quiet, clean, and welcoming. The staff was courteous, friendly, and attentive, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, the food itself did not meet our expectations. I would rate it about a 4/10. I've had much better and more authentic ramen and sushi elsewhere. The meat in my ramen had an unpleasant taste that seemed old, and both the noodles and broth lacked flavor. I'm not sure whether this was due to the quality of the ingredients or a lack of attention to preparation, but the overall experience was disappointing. We were a party of five, and honestly, no one had a "wow" moment with their meal. The general consensus at the table was that the food simply wasn't very enjoyable. Several of us did not finish our meals because we weren't satisfied with the taste. That said, I wanted to give this restaurant a fair chance because we've passed by it so many times and didn't want to judge it without trying it ourselves. I have noticed that it often seems fairly empty, and after this visit, I can better understand why. I genuinely wish this establishment the best and hope they can improve the quality of their food. We come here with the family all the time. We love the service here. It's always friendly and our food is always delicious. I've never ordered something I didn't like. My kids love the deep fried gyoza, the sacramento roll, and the miso soup. My husband and I love the kakugan Nachos, the pepperfin, the princess roll, the lemon drop roll, and the mixed tempura plate. (You can never go wrong with tempura). We also love to come here to celebrate with the happy hour sake shots! Always a good deal. The location is perfect. Parking is always easy to find. Sushi night has become a thing with our family and we decided to visit this place as we seen it passing by many times. The staff greeted us immediately and seated us. The service was quick! I Door Dashed lunch today from Sushi Kakogan. This was my first experience with this restaurant. The portions delivered were generous and the packaging was first rate. Prices were competitive. My order consisted of a Roll, Nigiri, Shrimp and Edamame. The roll I selected was the Gilroy Garlic (raw). It came with deep fried shrimp tempura, snow crab, avocado, salmon, tobiko with sauce. It was good but not much shrimp or salmon. My Shrimp Tempura was disappointing. It looked great but it was almost nothing but tempura ... hard to find any shrimp. The Salmon Nigiri was fantastic. Was in town for a wedding and checked out this Japanese place, and it was decent overall. The restaurant was clean, and we went with the bento boxes. They came with soup, salad, rice, and two choices. I got the chicken teriyaki and grilled salmon. Both tasted good, but the portions were smaller than what I'd usually get elsewhere. One downside was the limited sushi options, especially for salmon lovers. I also got the Daniel's roll which comes with smoked salmon but I did not enjoy this. Also, the two guys behind the sushi bar were shouting a bit. Maybe that's just their style, but it threw me off a little. The two servers were attentive and kind. Red sashimi (Maguro or tuna, I think) was unfresh. 4. Pink sashimi (Shiro Maguro or white albacore tuna, I think) wasn't great. 5. Salmon sashimi (sake; orange sashimi) was cut into squares, which was different than the other sashimi cuts. To be fair though, I seem to have a preference for salmon, escolar, and hamachi over ahi and maguro. I can only think of one restaurant where I'd order ahi! FYI: The California roll uses an imitation crab stick, whereas the California II roll uses a snow crab salad. I preferred the California II roll. Driven past here multiple times and finally came here for a friend's bday celebration. We got edamame to start. The spicy edamame was sprinkled with the togarashi seasoning and had a good kick. My friends ordered the nachos and lava bites to share. I liked that the nacho chips were fried tempura nori. It gave it a nice Asian twist. The lava bites were fried and I think filled with cream cheese. I got the omakase nigiri and sashimi combo. Some of my other friends got omakase rolls and other things. Each roll was unique to their tastes and they all enjoyed it. The fish was fairly fresh and service was ok. Many of the rolls I saw had a ton of sauce which, personally I'm not a fan of. I like being able to taste the fish so I'm glad I got the sashimi and nigiri combo. The waitress however did not explain what type of fish was on it which I would have liked.
