Akashi was the gold standard back in the 2010s. Authentic flavors and nothing ridiculously fancy. Boy has it fallen... This place has exchanged so many hands.. First, the servce. I have never been handed the ordering pad to confirm my order like I worked there enough to really interpret the system menu - and still they managed to get my order wrong... then they never brought me the a cup of water to drink with my meal. Oh they forgot my spoon to use to eat my soup.... never came back to check in for me to ask for either of those things. Second- the food quality. It is not even close to old akashi. Anyone who has ever had fatty tuna.. knows those things melt in your mouth. The one today? Fishy taste and poorly cut (it was tough to chew and stringy). The 20 dollar wooguhji? The barest of soups.. barely any cabbage or egg... it was sad. Lastly store appearance. Their bathroom give me icks.. the mirror was so greased streaky.. ugh. We wont be back for a long time, if ever again honestly. And anyone who eats sushi... your sushi plate that is served never looks.... questionable. This was a first for me. This place has went down hill.. far down hill!! Me and my woman came for date night this evening and we ordered our food and she ordered wine to drink. Food came out spring rolls were cold, the meat was spoiled! The wine was room temperature, also asked for a fork and the guy palmed the end of the fork. The wine didn't even come out until our food did. Never got my sushi. So we just left and didn't even eat it. Not to mention is was 82 degrees in there. I would never go there again. My wife and I recently were in the mood for some sushi and decided to stop into Akashi. We started with two sushi rolls--a Tropical Roll and a Thai Chili Roll--that were delicious. Each bite was perfectly balanced with fresh ingredients and bold flavors that left us impressed To complement the sushi, we had the Gyoza (pork dumplings), which were crisp on the outside and tender, flavorful on the inside--a great way to kick off the meal For the main event, we went with the Chicken Dolsot Bibimbap and the Beef Dolsot Bibimbap, and both were outstanding. After my first visit, I came back again and again because the food is consistently excellent. The natto, oshinko, ika, ikura, mackerel, and tamago were highlights for me. The seafood is very fresh. It's the kind of restaurant that rewards ordering beyond the usual rolls. As someone coming from the Seattle area, I wasn't expecting to discover one of the highlights of my trip in a sushi restaurant near Wright-Patt, but here we are. Nice place. Impressive sushi offerings. All of our sushi and appetizers were very good. Our daughter loves their ramen. The hot pot was good, but not awesome. One minor point that could be better is the spray used to clean tables. Whenever someone cleaned a table, they sprayed a lot and there was a definite and bothersome chlorine smell hanging in the air for a minute or two. It made it difficult to enjoy the evening and especially our food, once served. I appreciate their effort to maintain cleanliness and good hygiene, but it affected my dining experience some. Wait times are absolutely awful, 2+ hours spent waiting on a pre placed online order, waitress said it's because when they make the rolls they just give them to whatever order they see, not what orders were put in first in the time i spent waiting in the front of the building numerous patrons left complaining they had not been served for hours and hadn't even been spoken to, the only waitress also doesn't speak English very well so when trying to explain to her that we were frustrated she said something incoherent and then left without resolving any problem of ours, and when she came to speak with us an hour later she forgot she ever spoke to us and we had to explain our grievances once again. Wow! This place was amazing. The food was great! We started with the shrimp shumai, very good. I got a spicy salmon roll and a veggie roll of some kind. My dad got the soba curry. All delicious. To finish off we got the red bean, strawberry, mint chocolate chip, and mango mochi. Our server was very attentive, she was ON refills like nobody's business. We had lunch here today after touring the AF Museum. It's good sushi. We started with the spring roll which is a vegetable roll. It came with a yummy sauce and we both liked it. I had the lunch spicy rolls. They included a miso soup and small salad with a very light citrus dressing. The 3 spicy rolls tasted very good - but - spicy tuna was processed mushy and the shrimp roll was tempera. My daughter had chirashi bowl and she really liked it. So much improvement in the past year or two. I went into do dine-in recently and got the shokado bento box. I had a huge variety of food to eat and it was all great. The sashimi was fresh tasting and high quality, with it being on the fattier side. And the sushi was good too. I really liked the tempura pieces with the shrimp and the vegetables. I also liked the teriyaki chicken a lot, with it being cut into small pieces. The pickles were also really good to taste with the bento box. This also came with the miso and the ginger dressing salad as appetizers, which was nice during the wait. The wait was very quick, and the service was attentive. The other people in my group were also very happy with their food. The potato fritter thing was great, and had a nice flavor inside. I thought the pork katsu was nice and crispy and the curry tasted good too. I do remember some times I took takeout and their rolls, though expensive, are worth it with the types of toppings. Great little find. Sushi was super good and fresh. The gentlemen behind the counter were friendly and nice. The older guy looked like he had 200-years experience and the young guy he was training is learning a lot as the Akashi roll was top-notch! Ramen was good. Perfect noodle texture and delicious broth. Only complaint was that I would have liked more than a postage-stamp sized piece of Nori and more than two thin slices of pork. Pork was cut expertly thin and super fatty! Good food, small portions, long waits. Ok ok, there is a sign as you walk in that says you should expect longer waits due to employment issues (I believe). However, the wait seemed excessive. I took a look at my watch, and waiting 30 mins for us to put in our order was way longer than anticipated. The food tasted good, but there is a catch. Please don't anticipate large portions, at least not for the ramen. I counted one slice of meat in the tonkatsu ramen bowl. It didn't take me too long to discover I will need some follow-on food to complete dinner. I am writing this review as I sit in the restaurant. All I can say is WOW. The customer service is exceptional, as soon as we walked in we were seated and given waters. The atmosphere is great. It may seem a bit sketchy from the outside but they always says "Don't judge a book by it's cover" and this place is a perfect example of that. The decor inside is cute, it's very clean, and seating is spaced apart. THE FOOD is phenomenal. My husband and I wanted sushi but we also wanted to try the spicy ramen. We made our waitress aware of this and she split it up before even bringing it out. Our sushi was prepared quickly and elegantly. Our server was very attentive and sweet. Good quality sushi (fresh nigiri but they are out of toro usually) and I would try any of their special rolls on the board. I just had to knock a star down for the service. Unfortunately, it is awfully slow and the rolls don't all come at the same time. I was done with my roll before my partner got his sushi. In addition, they advertised that if you check-in on four square you get 10 percent off. That is no longer true. Please take that off of your website. I don't really care for the discount, but I really do hate outdated marketing materials that can be updated in 5 seconds. All and all, the sushi is great.
