I was intrigued by Jennifer Biggs' review of the new Tokyo Grill. Described as a fast-casual Japanese restaurant with quality ingredients, my husband and I decided to check it out one rainy weekday evening. The restaurant is small and doesn't have much by the way of atmosphere, but the food is quite tasty for the prices. We tried the gyoza, which were meaty, well-seasoned and frankly much better than most restaurants in town. The chicken fried rice was a good interpretation of quality well above its $5.95 price tag, with a portion size large enough for 3 meals. My wonderful dining companion chose the sushi special (choice of one, two or three rolls with miso soup.) The three roll combo came it at a very reasonable $8.95. He selected the Boston roll, spicy crawfish and spicy tuna. While the quality varied, he did say that it was well worth the price, and it came with this hefty portion of miso soup. Food was prepared very quickly; we received our order in less than five minutes. But, it was freshly prepared as I could see the sushi chef making each of my husband's rolls from my seat. There weren't many customers when we arrived, but business picked up around the time we finished our meal. One guy had come for lunch that day and then returned for dinner. With prices this good and quantities this large, I can't say that I blame him. read more

We ordered dinner take out and were very unhappy. The only good thing was the dumplings. My hibachi steak entree was terrible because the meat was overcooked and hard. The dog enjoyed it. The spring rolls were gooey messes. And my daughters sushi roll was decorated with a hair on the bottom. She tried calling them to see if they would refund us since everything was a bust but after talking w three people she was told to bring the food in and they'd decide if they wanted to refund her and then they just hung the phone up. This place is the cheapest sushi, hibachi, teriyaki place in Memphis that still has decent quality. The owner has told us before that he doesnt care about being rich he just wants to broaden peoples palates to the wonderful taste of sushi and i think that is awesome! Seriously, thanks to Tokyo Grill I was able to throw a sushi party and my coworker loves it too bc it is more reasonable than say Blue Fin or Stix. Its defeintely along the lines of a fast service restaurant even though you can dine in. At lunch its better to just get it to go bc it gets packed quick, I;ve posted our bill under pictures just to give you an idea of the prices and its really good. Came here for dinner. Its good for the price. One of my favorite places when i want inexpensive sushi. I ordered the tuna sushi combo with a miso soup. The sushi was a little bland and the miso soup was salty. We also ordered the chicken and steak hibachi combo and that was really good. We also ordered the garlic broccoli as an appetizer and that was also a little salty. Overall the service is good and quick. The people are are super friendly. read more

Good sushi at affordable prices. You can buy three different rolls and still be under $20 unlike other sushi joints in town that would literally charge you $20 for a roll. Their main entrees also come in large quantities so this is the perfect place for college kids on a tight budget. Their noodles are yummy and they give you enough to feed at least 4 normal people, 1 of me LOL. read more

Thought I would give this place another try. Called and placed a to go order. Extremely rude on the telephone. Stopped in to pick up the to go order. Rude again at the counter. Ordered shrimp fried rice. Extremely bland. Ordered a couple of eggrolls. I have eaten at this place a couple times for lunch. I work right around the corner and it is convent for a quick sushi fix during lunch. The only few times I have been to this place was because some work girls wanted to go. Like I have said in other sushi reviews, I am a bit of a sushi snob...the few rolls I have eaten here have been mehhhh. If you do order the sushi I would stick to the specialty rolls. The cheaper rolls are not the best. I will say their fried rice was delishhhhh. I would definitely go back and order that rice! read more

Not the best sushi I've ever had, but much better than grocery store grade and cheap enough I don't feel bad for taking my kids. The kids did the 3 roll meal and I had the Pine Nut Tuna. The miso was good and the tuna was surprisingly delicious. What I snatched off their plates was good, basic sushi (they had salmon, tuna, California, sweet potato tempura, shrimp tempura, and cucumber rolls). This might become our go-to take out spot. As mentioned in other reviews, cutlery and bowl are plastic. Our food was served on plates, it the fried rice ordered at the next table was in a styrofoam box. Didn't bother me, but I can see how it might be odd for others. read more

This place was great until it changed ownership. They give you a ton of food, but the quality is not the same. They are nice, fast and accommodating. But again, the food is not the same. The menu is weird, they used to have true bento boxes, and now they have this odd combo instead. I feel they have potential, but there's room for improvement. Usually this place never ceases to amaze me with how great their food is but the last time I went in there I got the Teriyaki Chicken Hibachi meal and my chicken was under done and felt rubbery and I got really sick from it! Y'all this is one of my favorite restaurants of all time. Is it a fine-dining, low-lit sushi bar? No. It is, however, authentic, fresh, delicious Japanese food that I will never stop indulging myself on!! I shamelessly come here once a week and get 2 Memphis rolls. Their fried rice is delicious, their egg drop soup is to die for, and their specialty sushi is affordable and mouth-wateringly good. This restaurant never fails. No matter if your looking for some simple/common hand rolls or something more adventurous without having to worry about freshness, quality or quantity this is a winner. While they do have a smaller dine-in area with tables, due to their central and close location this is our go-to place for take out. They also have a variety of items for those that do not enjoy the raw foods. Add that to the ease of location and the very pleasant employees and it win/win/win. When you don't feel like getting dressed up and spending a lot of money this is the best bet. read more

I am so glad I finally got a chance to come here! I heard good things about this place mainly that the prices are incredible, the portions are very filling, and that it's the perfect hole in the wall to go to for good eats. A grad student's dream restaurant. This is by no means a fancy place. The space is very cramped, everything is served in disposable containers and you eat with plastic forks. The service isn't perfect because you are oftentimes ignored for long periods of time. But the place is small enough that you can easily wave your server down. But I have to say the food tasted pretty good. I had the tofu teriyaki and I was seriously blown away by how much food I was served for a little over $8. If it's a weekday and you don't feel like cooking but still don't want to spend a fortune on food, I'd totally recommend coming here or just ordering take-out. read more

I have eaten at the Tokyo Grill on Kirby several times and it has always been decent, however, this is my first time dining at the one on Park and it was HORRIBLE!!!! I ordered 3 rolls. The fish in one of them smelled and definitely was not fresh (Philly roll) the other 2 (spicy salmon and spicy tuna) contained crunchy filling that tasted stale (it was almost chewy). Needless to say, I will not return to that location. The ONLY reason I did not return for a full refund is because I was back at work which was 15 min away so I didn't have the time. read more

My all-time favorite Japanese restaurant in Memphis. The fried rice is absolutely unbeatable. The sushi is fresh and very yummy. I've been going to Tokyo grill for about a year and have been hooked since. I order to go at least once a week because it's also very affordable for me, being a college student and all. If you order any of the fried rice meals you're 100% going to have leftovers, the amount they serve you is NUTS. Tokyo Grill is just a short drive from where I work, and when I was still working in my previous position and had to work on Saturdays, I'd often meet my boyfriend here for lunch. It's a small place, with a few tables and a service counter, so you can dine in or carry out. The staff is very nice (and definitely had our orders memorized pretty quickly after our first few visits) and service is fast. I usually stick to the hibachi and combo meals because you get a ton of food for a great price: choice of meat (steak, chicken, shrimp, scallops, and salmon, with various combos), a side of vegetables (mushrooms, onion, and zucchini), and a big heaping of rice (fried or white). I've had their tempura chicken and vegetables before and they're quite nice and come with a tasty pot of sweet-and-salty dipping sauce. Their scallion pancakes and yakitori chicken are tasty appetizers, and they serve their salads with the best ginger-sesame dressing ever. Everything is served in carry-out containers, whether you dine in or carry out, but that just makes it easier to take any leftovers home. This is a great place to go for quick, tasty "fast casual Japanese"--perfect for lunch or a lazy weeknight dinner. It's cheap too, which is an added bonus! read more

Wow! Sushi never tasted so good at this price! I stopped in this place for a quick lunch the other day and paid $10 for 3 rolls, which included a miso soup as well! Although, some criticism has been applied from other yelps about the fact that these guys serve food on plastic trays; I like the casual feel and if that is what helps these guys keep cost down - I am all for paying $2 to $4 dollars less per roll - more sushi for me! ;) This is an awesome place to stop in if you need a quick fix on your sushi craving or you can call in an order for pick up as well.
