They have a lot of options on the menu, something for everyone. I ordered miso soup and shrimp fried rice to go. They do have a cozy dining area for those that want to dine in. If you're sleeping on the sushi and fried rice at Tokyo Grill, you're seriously missing out. The sushi is ridiculously fresh, perfectly rolled, and basically disappears the second it hits the table. And the fried rice? Absolute flavor bomb--savory, buttery, and loaded with that classic hibachi magic that makes you keep saying "just one more bite"... about 12 times. 10/10 would absolutely demolish this meal again. The staff here were incredibly friendly and we got our food with a quick turnover considering how much sushi our table ordered. 3. The prices here are VERY great. You can get very affordable sushi here. 4. They were open when neighboring sushi restaurants were closed. (Midday between lunch & dinner) That said, there are no frills here. We got the very basic sushi which were $4.99 a roll (!!!!) or 2 for $9.99 and that came with a miso soup! We tried: cucumber roll, California roll, spicy crunchy crab, and spicy California roll. They were all priced within that price range I mentioned and we were happy with nearly everything. Know that when they say a cucumber roll-- it's literally JUST cucumber inside rice & seaweed. I did not expect that and wouldn't get that one again. Also, the spicy sauce that came on their spicy rolls was overpowering in a bad way. Next time I'll get it on the side or without the sauce all together... you just couldn't taste the sushi or anything except the sauce. (And there was way too much sauce on it, IMO.) All in all? We'd come back again. My daughter really loved the artwork on the walls of the restaurant so huge kudos to whoever did the art inside because it really is breathtaking. read more

Due to the pandemic, they closed down their dining room and modified the inside for to-go only. I appreciate that too. No matter what I order, the food is always delicious and tasty. You can't beat the price of these sushi rolls. 3 sushi rolls with miso soup for the price of $11.25 is an incredible deal. I love simple sushi rolls so this is a steal to me. My favorites are the Alaskan, eel & avocado, and Philly. Quality salmon and they don't over stuff with rice unlike other cheap places. The family that works here is so sweet and I love getting takeout from here. Seating inside is pretty small, but you could still sit inside. The shrimp fried rice portion is HUGE. The correct approach to reviewing a sushi restaurant in a lunch context would be to go there and get what most people would get for lunch. At Tokyo Grill, the 3 sushi rolls + soup for $9.95 seems like a) a great deal and b) the correct thing to review. The problem is, I absolutely love sushi. And I just cannot resist trying the 'fancy' rolls the first time I am at a sushi joint I have not been to before. So, I got the Mexican roll and the Black Pepper tuna roll. Yeah I know, I probably should wait to post this review until I go there again but.. nah. The Mexican roll was just mouth watering. Of the two I have to say it probably was more tantalizing if only for the heavy seasoning that made me crave it. I do not mean heavy in a bad sense, just this deep umami flavor that kept pulling me back in. And then the Black Pepper tuna! Spicy, sweet, complex flavor that I would order again in a second. As much as I loved the Mexican roll, I have to admit that I tore through that black pepper tuna roll in no time flat. All in all, the sushi was exceptional and reasonably priced for premium rolls. The only thing I have to say about this place is that they only had two people in there at lunch running the restaurant. So, things got backed up. But having such popularity is another sign of an excellent place to eat so I don't want to ding them too much for this. Taking off one star for how long it took to get all of my food, but honestly the only issue I had was the slowness, and in their defense every table was full and the stream of to go orders was constant. I did not like the texture nor taste of it here. I informed the waitress and her response was " a lot of people like it. This is what you ordered. I will lose money if you don't pay for it." Just moved to the area from California and this place knocks every place I've ever been to out of the water! We got TWO orders of the scallion pancakes, they were soft and flaky and we polished them off! The best! Ordered the chicken fried rice and the potion was HUGE! Tokyo Japanese Express used to be fantastic...when they first opened. Doesn't that seem to be the way it always goes with restaurants these days? They start off strong and full of steam in the hopes of making a name for themselves and then the novelty of being a restaurant owner seems to wear off and they "phone it in" after only a few short months. I got lunch there this afternoon and was thoroughly disappointed. I ordered my regular; a Spicy Shrimp roll and Miso soup. The Miso soup was, of course, as Miso soup should be, I suppose. However, it was served to me in a styrofoam cup like you might get coffee in at an AA meeting, little league game or summer camp dance. Okay, so be it, I can overlook this. No big deal...right? My "Spicy Shrimp" roll consisted of rice, diced cucumber and...yup, nothing, nothing else at all. I suppose it's my own fault. If you don't rip open your to-go bags at the counter in restaurants and go through each and every item with a fine-toothed comb, be it on your own head. You might be thinking, "hey, this guy is just a jerk with no actual food service industry knowledge to base such opinions on." Or you might be thinking, "Captain Crunch really does cut the roof of my mouth!" Well, you might be right about the jerk half of the comment (and the Captain Crunch part even though it's odd you were thinking about that while reading this) but my wife has been an executive in the food service industry for the better part of a decade now, so my comments do have a pinch of substance. Husband and I went to the location on Germantown Pkwy last night. The food was more than excellent and more importantly, so cheap! The staff was so friendly without being intrusive. The food was fresh and filling. We were impressed with everything. I loved the fried oysters appetizer and Husband was blown away by his Pad Thai. Honestly, we haven't gone out in a while I ever because of all the disappoining dinners lately but we gave Tokyo Grill a solid A plus for the food and the staff. We will definitely be back! I ordered the Ben roll, Snow Crab roll, and chicken fried rice (just to see how it compares to other Japanese fried rice I've had). I was really impressed by the quality and large portion of the sushi, given its price! It wasn't dripping in sauces like at other restaurants, and the rice wasn't packed too firmly. I could actually taste the seafood in both rolls (eel and crab)! I was given a squeeze bottle of what tasted like flavored Kewpie mayo (reminiscent of Thousand Island dressing); I appreciated this gesture of allowing me to control the amount of sauce I wanted on my sushi. The fried rice was great, not greasy like other places. The chicken was really tender but strangely served on top of the rice and not mixed in. I will definitely return. Such an affordable restaurant! 4 stars because they only use styrofoam to serve their food on... cringing! I would love to see some Project Green Fork action here. read more
