We were seated quickly just after 1PM on a Wednesday afternoon with the place being mostly empty, which was perfect for us wanting to eat and get on with our day. The place is not spacious, yet not quite intimate so somewhere in between and perfectly fine for bring a group of friends for a snack. Okay, while there were definitely lots of rooms for improvement for certain dishes (e.g., the beef teriyaki, which lacked a lot of the tangy and sweet flavours), the price, the amount of food you'd get, and the diversity of different side dishes of the bento boxes were quite amazing--far exceeding its price. Also, I did really enjoy the oyster fry!! The oysters were quite fresh and tasty. Overall, TG is a really nice izakaya-style restaurant with super reasonable prices. It's a great place to grab a bite and a drink with a friend after work on weekdays. There's a reason it's been standing in the prime area of North York for quite a while now. read more

July 6, 2025 - Went to Tokyo Grill for the Lunch Summerliscious $20 set menu. I started with the spicy fish cake appetizer. Then had the beef teriyaki bento and finished off with a slice of mango Cheesecake. The food was amazing. The portions were generous and there are a variety of options to choose from. I've come here time and time again for the Summerliscious set menu and I have nothing bad to say about them. Visited this place many times and will come more. You'll be greeted with warm and inviting atmosphere, with traditional Japanese decòr and soft lighting that made for a relaxing setting. I always get the bento here as it comes with rice, chicken karaage, main dish of meat and some pickled veggies. I got the ginger pork this time to try. I usually get the katsu or udon dish and opt for a different one. A little bland to me needs more seasoning a hint of ginger yes, but i need more of it. What a wonderful little Izakaya bar. I wish I'd discovered this place sooner. Stumbled upon Tokyo Grill while looking for late night eats. It's got a warm and cozy vibe that brings a piece of Japan to North York. Service was good. What's great about it is that it's open late night. Good for after work drinks. Summerlicious 2024 - Lunch Menu We were seated by a booth and each table had a tablet to place your order. I had chilled tofu, tempura bento and black sesame cheesecake. For a $20 menu the value is pretty fair, the cheesecake and service wasn't stellar as it took a couple of tries to flag down the waitress for water and something tasted off with the black sesame cake. Was looking for a casual no fuss lunch and this place fit the bill. Located on Yonge St, 1 block north of Empress Walk this is a Izakaya style restaurant. Tables are a mixture of booths and tables Lots of options on the menu from ramen to udon to donburi's. Good selection of alcohol and side dishes to go with alcohol! Each table has a tablet where you place your order. The only issue with this is if you have more than a couple of people this could take a while if people want to see all the options. We ordered 3 bento boxes (ginger pork, spicy pork and beef hamburg) and a oyako donburi. All the bento boxes came with 3 pieces of chicken Karagge, pasta salad and some sides. I would say the portion is a decent size for the price you pay. Quality was okay, nothing spectacular. The ginger pork was more pork stir fry than ginger pork. This is a great place if you want a quick bite in a casual environment and are not expecting bells and whistles or want to get together with friends over drinks and snacks. Upon entering, the mellow vibes from the lighting and the wooden seating create an intimate atmosphere, perfect for a date or hanging out with friends. If you're looking for a cozy atmosphere, this is the spot to go to. It's relatively small compared to some other places in the area, however it's a great casual hangout food spot. They have a decent variety of options such as bento boxes, appetizers, ramen and drinks. I tried out their pork katsu bento box along with some takoyaki. I found the bento box is a good item to get if you're unsure on what to get. I really liked the karaage chicken the most within the bento box. It was a nice crispy texture and decent portions of chicken especially with the sauce it was super addicting. Unfortunately, the pork katsu was a bit too dry for my liking even with sauce. It wasn't really as juicy as I was expecting however, it still tasted okay. An honourable mention needs to be made for the takoyaki. It was the perfect appetizer to have with the main dish. It took a bit longer than usual but definitely worth the wait as it's fresh and hot. The toppings inside had a reasonable amount of octopus filling and had a nice soft texture. The sauces were rich and smokey. Overall, I highly recommend this place for small groups. If you plan on going with more than 4 people, definitely recommend calling in advance for a reservation as most of their seats suit for less than 4 people. read more

My bf and I had always passed by this restaurant and wanted to try it. So I decided to come here and give it a try for the first time when we were in the area. We were promptly greeted and seated. On the side we ordered the grilled octopus. To start off my hamburger steak bento was such a disappointment. There was two tiny small beef balls which didn't taste good and the rest of the bento was mainly RICE and three pieces of kaarage and small tiny salad and pasta salad. My boyfriend was a little better. His beef teriyaki was flavourful, but again, it was mainly rice as you can see from the pictures. Octopus was alright, but super tiny and definitely not worth $22. I feel like I should give Tokyo Grill another try. I've had their takeout bentos before, and they were delicious and pretty good value for money. My recent visit was for sit-in and I got a little confused. I had the seafood broth syoyu. I should have read the description more closely as I was expecting some seafood in my ramen, but it was only had pork, green onion and boiled egg. Apparently the seafood was just part of the broth preparation. I found the ramen noodles to thin for my liking and the boiled egg was hard boiled (not the usual soft boiled). I should probably try again as my expectations did not align with what was served. Also, still haven't figure out if this is suppose to be a restaurant or more of a japanese bar with snacks. read more

We were going for a stroll down Yonge afterwards and decided not to order too much. Of the stuff we DID order the takoyaki was the best. It was crispy on the outside and melt in your mouth texture on the inside. My gf thought the drinks were really tasty but I thought they were a lil on the sweet side. The oyster fry was nicely done. Oysters were not overcooked. The tori-nanban (chicken w/ tartar sauce) was just meh imo. The batter was not crispy and the tartar sauce didn't add much depth of flavour. We could've skipped that fried chicken altogether. The meal was in the $50-60 range for 2 ppl but it was definitely not worth it imo. I ordered from Uber Eats this afternoon. Bento is always my favourite as I am able to try many different things. I would say it's a value for money too. There was a promotion - buy one get one free for the takoyaki. Paying just $45.45 for oysters, chicken katsu and takoyaki was totally worth it. It was my second time ordering from this restaurant, and I felt that the food quality was quite standard, similar to the last time. It's hard for me to commend on the service but the packaging was impressive compared with some other restaurants - at least nothing would spilt out. FYI I am a big fan of Japanese food. I would give it 4/5 as it's a value for money. Nice Japanese restaurant! The interior is quite dimly lit, but they place ambient candles pretty much everywhere. They also have a faux fireplace centerpiece, which is pretty cool to look at. We got the katsu curry rice and a side of katsu. The curry rice is a great balance of rice and curry, and is topped with a super crunchy katsu piece! The katsu was nice and juicy inside too. We also got the pork belly and onion don. The grilled eel was super good! Nicely charred but great chewy texture (sort of reminiscent of grilled dried squid snack) but had the perfect balance of sweet, umami and grilled notes! Haven't had anything like it before. The grilled squid was also cooked nicely, and was tasty as well. The croquettes were super good, mixture of different potato textures (mashed and chunks) inside, super crispy panko breading on the outside and a nice curry sauce to go with it. The rice (don) with pork belly was a solid dish, but not my favourite because the pork belly was definitely overcooked and a little bit dry. However, flavour-wise it was good. I really like the ambiance in here with the fake fire decor in the centre. The Sukiyaki was pretty flavourful, broth was on the salty side, but beef was tender and it went well with the rice. The konnyaku noodle would taste better if it was cooked a little longer and softer. The deep fried oyster was not bad, mid sized and karage was okay-nothing to write home about. The Shishamo-grilled capelins was a little flavourless. You really need the mayo to get some flavours. They only serve the hot sake in one size. Overall (3.5), the ambiance is nicer than the actual flavour of the food. But it's nice to check out the decor and ambiance. I've been here twice now, once for lunch and once for dinner. I found that the food was either hit or miss and pricing was more aligned with an izakaya such that you're expected to order a number of different tapas to fill yourself up and it would cost you a pretty penny. Overall, I think Tokyo Grill is not bad but in order to get your bang for your buck, you really gotta know what to order. So I'll share with you all what I've discovered: 1) Their lunch special bento is likely the item of best value on their menu. For $10, you get an ample portion of protein (chicken katsu + 1 other of your choice), rice, a side dish, miso soup, a small salad, and even a few pieces of fruit! 2) The mini udon + mini curry don combo offers a nice mix-up of flavours and textures with a soup-based udon dish and a curry-based rice dish.. however, there really wasn't any protein here - just 2 slivers of fish cake. If you're okay with just eating carbs and not ordering a side dish of meat, then I suppose this is a good option. 3) I think the rule of thumb is to just never order ramen at a place that doesn't specialize in ramen. The shoyu ramen here tasted more like.. a weird hybrid Chinese-based soup noodle with an extremely overcooked egg. It was cheap ($10) but did not taste that great. 4) The karaage here is quite good, although a bit expensive. I would order regular karaage next time though since the "special sauce" didn't really add anything special. read more

I came by a little after Christmas for a quick bite. I was a little disappointed that I was limited to the lunch menu only, but the food we ordered was fresh and very tasty. The Chicken Curry Rice was so good and hearty, it was a very filling meal. I did enjoy the Torched Salmon Sashimi bento, but the salmon had an odd texture compared to most torched salmon. Stopped here on our way into Toronto for lunch before we started our day of exploring. The food was fantastic, my wife had Chicken Udon, my daughters had Ramen and I enjoyed an order of Sukiyaki. The food was fresh and full of flavor, the outside patio was... well, it was the best they could makeshift with what little space they had and the inside atmosphere was beautiful. The service is where this place really stood out above the rest. My daughter had a nose bleed while on the patio and the lovely staff did everything they could to come to the rescue and make her feel better. At the end of our meal I thanked the staff, they gave me a hand full of candy and said "this is for her". My daughter was so happy when we left and will no doubt remember this place for a long time. read more
