Honestly the food doesn't taste great. Ordered online and got a grilled shrimp bowl. Sushi was decent but the bowl lacked flavor. Noodles were slimy and lacked flavor. Hi there, this review goes to the manager who might need to retrain his employees I ordered online to save time. It said 20 minutes. My husband arrived on time. He waited in the pick up line. Strike one ...And waited and waited after other customers were served in the other line. He tried to be patient He finally spoke up and they said- oh well we are very busy tonight. Yes but isn't that the point of ordering online so that you don't have to wait after everyone else is in line?! Food was not as it used to be at this location. Strike two Spring rolls had tons of carrots, menu said basil (no) and Sunomono, (no) but well it was a stick of cucumber. Used to be better. Our two entrées were also mediocre as well. I had ordered what I thought was pad Thai, but it came with... Strike three Ramen noodles. I had no idea that was the kind of noodles they would put in there as it did not specify on the online order sheet However, I would never order Pad Thai with Ramen so if you're going to offer that on your menu, you should get rice noodles. Strike four- chicken was very dry. I ordered half and half. shrimp was good though. I am a big fan of Tokyo Joe's in general. Love the food, which has always been very tasty and high-quality. I'm not sure what has happened to this west Colfax/Denver West location, but the service has gotten significantly worse. I usually get excellent quality food here at Tokyo Joe's. Today was a different story. I've purchased a build your bowl, and the chicken had the consistency as if it was from a day or more so old. It was a pick-up order. I called the store and spoke with the manager, and they stated that the chicken was from a different carrier. That answer did not seem logical, but I took it for face value. Bottom line, no matter what, it is the responsibility that the food is of the utmost quality. It is highly unacceptable to serve less than par for the chicken or other food. I hope in the future, Tokyo's Joe needs to be more mindful of what type of quality food they serve. read more

This was my first visit to Tokyo Joe's - in fact, this was my first visit to any Japanese or other Asian themed restaurant of this nature. This is a fast casual restaurant where you go to the counter and order and then pick-up your food and find a table (no table service). The menu includes sushi (which I did not try) and a variety of bowls (which I did try). When ordering a bowl, you pick your protein, the noodles, the sauce and the various ingredients you want included in your bowl. There are also a number of "sort of standard" bowls that you can order if you're not interested in customizing your own bowl. All of the ingredients appeared to be very fresh and the staff was very patient and helpful. I was there with a family group of 4 and all of us enjoyed our bowls very much. I definitely will try this type of restaurant again -- and soon. read more

I consistently order the Bahn Mi Bowl, and Tokyo Joe's always delivers good consistent quality. The sous vide egg is hit or miss, but the rest of the bowl is on-pointe for a fast casual value. The service is pleasant & I appreciate how the counter staff runs everyone's food out! The ambience is open & can be loud. Tonite the music was aggressive & overbearing. Finally, someone once told me to judge a restaurant by the cleanliness of the restrooms. The Tokyo Joe's at the Denver Mills gets a D-. Smelly moisture on the floor & a urinal that rivals the worst dive bar & not the first time I've had this experience at this store. This is a consistent stop for us on the way back from skiing. Went to the Tokyo Joes at Denver West location a couple of weeks ago & my husband ordered a small bowl with a bunch of the choices of veggies & 1 meat in his bowl.....when he received his bowl about 5 of his options were missing! He only had 2 of his 6 or 7 choices that he ordered! He is not one for raising a ruckus & just went ahead & ate his bowl, but was very very disappointed with it to the point that he said he will probably never go to a Tokyo Joe's again, let alone the one at the Denver West location. Either the order taker didn't pay attention to what was ordered or the cooks didn't pay attention or care!? Not sure....resulting in a former Tokyo Joe's fan to now a person who will avoid Tokyo Joe's! Very impressed! I was in town in visiting my sister and she suggested this place. We don't have these in Atlanta.... but I wish we did. The young lady taking my order was very patient. Ordered on our holiday trip wile stopping in Denver through DoorDash. We ordered two kids Mac n cheese (kraft), two bento boxes (chicken, one dark one white) and two rolls (spicy tuna and the TJs specialty roll). Biggest complainants were the avocado was NOT ripe. It was crunchy! Which made the rolls terrible! There is no way the sushi chef did not notice that when making them. Next complaint was the DoorDash driver completely forgot all utensils! Luckily our hotel does breakfast so they had some! Not really a complaint but more a meandering...why is dark chicken cheaper than white chicken...it's the same animal. Get the white...the dark was not too tasty. All in all, I'd try this place again if I was eating IN the restaurant. I would not DoorDash it again. read more

Tokyo Joe's has come a long ways since its early days. I remember the original menu as consisting of lots of (too sweet for my tastes) teriyaki and not much else. Today's menu is interesting, diverse and robust. I enjoy the miso soup as a starter. There is a limited sushi menu that I haven't tried. I often opt for Build-Your-Own-Bowls - choose your protein, carb, sauce and veggies (I like the udon noodles for the carb) - priced according to your choices, but all reasonable. Some interesting "signature bowls" are also good options. Lettuce wraps are listed under salads on the menu, are delicious, and are good to share. Bento boxes are nice options for small servings of several items. If you like iced tea, "Joe's Tea Bar" is a great option - six teas to choose from - my favorites are Pomegranate Green Dragon and Passion Fruit Black. This location at Denver West is always clean and pleasant and staff are cordial and helpful. Understand that Tokyo Joe's is kind of a tweener - you tend to think of it as fast food, but it's more than that. You order at the counter and take a number to your table, and they bring you your order when it's ready. It is fast. Real dishes and silverware - no plastic. But alas, no one's perfect - they do have the cheesy throw-away wooden chopsticks that you have to break apart - beware of splinters!) You can bus your own table when you're finished, but you better be fast because they are likely to bus it for you when they see that you're finished. Came to this location to try out the zucchini noodles "zoodles" and YUM!! I loved it as a change from the typical rice. First time trying Tokyo Joe's sushi as well and it was pretty good. Nothing spectacular but still tasty. Think I'll be sticking to stir fries from now on though! read more

Running some errands and popped in to Tokyo Joes for a snack. Decided on an Arizona Roll and a Spicy Tuna Roll. I thought both were really good. The Spicy Tuna wasn't too hot and had a nice sized piece of tuna. The Arizona Roll was hotter because of the fresh slice of jalapeño on the top. So, if you can't handle hot food, ask to leave the jalapeño off. It also had a red dragon sauce that was pretty hot too. The mango in this Roll is a really nice compliment. Service was fast as usual. Worst service and not hygienic. Six employees and no one took my order for 10 min (only customer). Three or four employees came back from "smoking" and a young lady with 15 facial piercings and a hairbrush literally in her hands said she didn't want to make the poke bowl because she wanted to finish smoking. Another employer said he wouldn't do it (didn't know how). The woman preparing my food did not wash her hands after coming back from smoking-- she wore gloves but didn't wash her hands first and touched them all over. She had her hairbrush around my food. I was so disgusted but starving-- then I started eating my food and there was hair in it. Normally could get past but with her hairbrush around the food, the hair down, and the lack of hygiene and care in general I was appalled. Most grossed out that the person preparing the food didn't wash their hands after smoking. The floors were dirty and the staff did not care. This was 4 pm on Wed Aug 11. I was the only customer. The ingredients were fresh so I am sure someone would be concerned. What a waste of $20.l! read more

Tokyo Joe's is a crime against Japanese cuisine. The rice was horrible, the sauce was thin and more sugary than flavorful, and the vegetables were mostly raw. Granted, I've only been there once, but given that so many things were bad that night, I can't imagine going another time would be drastically different. It wasn't just me. I went with three other buddies, and we all agreed: this was just plain unpleasant. To give us some credentials, two were Chinese, one Filipino, and I'm Japanese. The real gem here is being able to get fresh sushi at less than grocery store prices. It's worth popping in just for that when you are in a hurry. The bowls are solid; I had the shrimp curry bowl. It carries good heat, the shrimp were not overcooked and was definitely filling. A nod to the cook for adding in some greens! There's a bit too much rice for my taste and I feel overall the sauce was undersalted, but I can't complain because it's fast food and I am sitting next to a large bottle of soy sauce. This place gets five stars because they exceed expectations. I did not expect to have my meal delivered, have someone collect my plate, nor be asked how my meal was. Gluten free items are labeled and at least one location has GF soy sauce packets, although I think at Denver West you have to ask. Food is not gourmet by far better than most fast food places. They claim everything is natural but buyer beware: "natural" has no legal definition and can basically be used for anything sourced from planet earth. The salmon is wild and is your best bet if you want clean protein; I wouldn't trust the beef and chicken and don't expect staff to know about ranchers, sourcing, and how the animal ate. That said, I will totally come back when convenient, especially for the sushi. read more

I had the Unagi bowl on brown rice and really enjoyed it. I liked TJ's so much, my second visit was in the same week. I took my kids for lunch and we all enjoyed our meals. How you get it and the environment in which you eat it however can be a bit disjointed, disorganized, and overall noisy as all hell. The sushi rolls in general are middle of the road. The Thai peanut chicken skewers however are addictive and I could eat 50 of them in one sitting. Anything teriyaki I steer clear of because the sauce rubs me the wrong way.
