I have to say I'm very disappointed... i've been coming to Orion for years. It's been one of my favorite sushi places, but after this experience, I won't be coming back. It was an older lady that was coming around to the tables trying to push the sea urchin on everyone. We reluctantly was like OK I guess we'll try it and it was disgusting and then I see when I get the bill while she's pushing it on everybody because four little pieces and we were charged $50. Oh, my goodness. This place is a semi hidden gem! It's located in a shopping center with a few other places. Make sure you walk in to the correct place though! Me and my partner accidentally walked into a place a few stores down but that's on us. Anyways the staff is so friendly, the greeter told us we could sit anywhere, so we sat at a comfy booth! The atmosphere is comfortable modern but still authentic (from what I can tell) and our server was so sweet and answered all my silly questions. Even the ones that made me sound very American like " what does _____ taste like?" And such. Even checked if they had peach raume for me! Me and my partner shared various things that I can't remember because I'm just in awe of how good it was. OH Ans the presentation! This is a quiet strip mall gem I'm saddened that it took me so long to enjoy. I have a family member that is a sushi junkie and he spotted this as we were driving home from a shooting range. As soon as we walked in we fell in love with the small, family owned feel. We were greeted by Ervina who seated us and was also our server. She really helped us out as we were ordering from a dinner menu during lunchtime. She transferred our order to a lunch form that saved us some money. How I loved the honesty of family owned operations. The sushi we ordered arrived within ten minutes and it was incredible. Beautifully plated, well made and wonderfully seasoned. Each choice tasted just as it was advertised. The prices were reasonable as well. When the meal was over we were even given a small plate of salmon tempura to try. It was also first rate. Great service and very fresh tasting sushi options here! Came for a business lunch and had never been here. Was very pleasantly surprised! Started with edamame and wontons. Both were exactly what you'd expect. For main course, my coworker got lo Mein and said it was delicious! Other colleague and I split some rolls and I got some sashimi. The sashimi tasted incredible and so fresh! Surprising for a landlocked, strip mall joint! Our service was excellent. The server was very friendly and patient with us as decided on our orders. Solid 4 star and so far the best sushi I've found in Colorado! Better thsn Sushi Den. Ok, so why the 4 star not a 5 star? The reason is because I have Southern California standards. There's amazing sushi in So Cal, and down there this place could hold its own as a good spot but not as one of the top spots. But so far it's the top spot in Colorado and it's definitely good. I will continue to try and find better but also I may return because I've tried 10+ and this is ghe best out of those. The ambiance is nice for being in a little strip mall, nothing super upscale but nice and medium sized. The service was good, tge waiter was nice. The presentation of the food was really good. I was looking for a place to grab some sushi with a friend before catching the holiday lights at Bandimere Speedway. After perusing Yelp, Orion seemed like a great choice, and honestly it proved to be perfect. The sushi menu is expansive! So many neat and creative rolls-- it took us awhile to choose. They also have some great sets so we did a mix to get both our maki and nigiri fix. At one point we realized one roll hadn't yet been delivered, and despite the fact that we had over ordered, we persisted. Truly delicious. The other thing I will say is that the service here was above and beyond. Friendly, professional and very attentive. I haven't experienced anything at that level in awhile. Also our server let us know they do a BOGO happy hour on sake too, which was appreciated. All in all a great experience. And while this place isn't in my usual neck of the woods, I'm definitely planning to check it out again when out this way. The fish did not taste fresh at all and the rice had an awful flavor. The gyoza was just frozen ones that were barely warmed up and burnt on one side. We took one bite of the sushi and decided it was not worth the risk for a second bite due to the foul flavor. Also there was a sewage smell right when we walked in. They clearly put a lot of love and attention into their food, even the miso soup is much better than the standard with really nice wakame instead of the standard tasteless seaweed. It didn't bother me that some of the flowers weren't real, it was still a stunning plating experience. ** The sushi was great, tasted fresh and the portion and prices were reasonable. Cons: ** The night we visited, it was noticeably slow. Despite this, our server wasn't as attentive and responsive as he could've been. I think my only reservation about the service was seeing the wait staff take their breaks in plain view as well as eat at the bar while we waited at times, for a refill or drink order, for example. I anticipate that the glitches with service will work themselves out as Orion gains a customer base. I'm chalking it up as a learning curve. We do plan to return. read more

Do not sleep on this grocery store parking lot-anchored sushi gem! We were on the hunt for GOOD sushi but away from downtown Denver (on the Rockies home opener) and Orion came up in a quick Google search of the area. A rather unassuming location - King Soopers strip mall next to a family a Italian joint (which I have on good authority is great, btw). Orion has a lovely atmosphere - clean, bright, airy and plenty of seating. We were seated right away for lunch on a Friday. The servers were excellent! Friendly and attentive, quick to refill waters and everything came out so quickly. We started with the Monkey Brains - not ACTUAL money brains for those of you unfamiliar with the dish (lol). It's an avocado stuffed with crab, spicy tuna, and cream cheese then lightly fried. It was delicious - a little heavier on the cream cheese than crab/tuna for my preference, and therefore not the best I've ever had, but still really, really good. Get it. You won't be sorry. My gauge for good sushi will always be nigiri (traditional style, fish over rice) and I tend to get the same thing at each new joint I visit, in order to keep it consistent: unagi (eel), sake (salmon) and maguro (tuna). I have to say that Orion's was some of the best I've had! I'm looking primarily for texture of the fish, flavor, serving size and value. Orion nailed it with each one. So freaking fresh, flavorful, tender, nicely portioned and affordable! We ordered 3 rolls: Crunchy Spicy Tuna, Spider, and Rising Sun. They were all phenomenal but I would say the Rising Sun was our favorite. The presentation was beautiful - our whole experience was outstanding! We were celebrating so we weren't paying too much attention to cost when ordering but I will tell you that we left fat and happy, and for probably 15% less money than we've spent at "some of the best sushi places in Denver". Pretty disappointed...My mother and I have been going to this restaurant for almost 4 years -often. It was our absolute favorite. We recently moved up to Erie about an hour away and came down purely to visit Orion. The waiters that were here a couple years ago were very friendly, attentive, and just all around, a welcoming staff. I want to preface this with the fact that we were 1 of 2 parties in there today around 2pm. If not the only party in there. This new-ish waiter that they hired about a year or so ago (gentleman with the glasses, tattoos, and well-kept hair) was incredibly rude and passive. No greeting, he came to the table about 5 minutes after we had put our menus on the edge of the table to indicate that we were ready to order. Again, no hello, nothing, just came up to the table grabbed the sheet of paper, spritly repeated what we had marked, and started to quickly walk away and my mother had to call out to him and ask for a drink herself since he never asked what we'd like to drink. (Which they always do.) To which, according to my mother, he made a face of annoyance and said "okay" in a short snap. He never came to the table to ask if we wanted refills on our drinks, never asked if she wanted sweetener for her tea, and that's when my mother said something about his attitude. The biggest issue I have is the fact that when I saw him when we initially entered, I kinda went "ugh..." inside because this is NOT a one-off incident with this waiter. At least on two other occasions we had him wait our table and it was the same experience -rude, passive, and giving off the attitude as if WE were inconveniencing HIM by being there. Making it rather uncomfortable for the customers, which is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE when you are paying a decent amount for the food. The manager did try his best to make up for this employees poor conduct by serving us himself for the remainder of our meal, removing the tipping option from the check, a comp on the receipt, and two mochis. (THAT IS THE ONLY REASON I AM GIVING 2 STARS INSTEAD OF 1). However, despite the manager being very kind about the situation, we unfortunately and honestly, sadly, will NOT be returning to Orion again because of this particular sever. He has now negatively affected several of our experiences at Orion and we will not risk another. I would understand if he had a bad day or something but this just seems to be his personality and he should honestly not be a waiter if he thinks it's okay to be an a** to customers/people for absolutely no reason. Food has always been great, but don't go to Orion if you're expecting a nice experience overall because this server will make you feel like you did something to bug him or you'll just experience his general unpleasantness. Time to find a new go-to-sushi-place. read more
