Chicken Teriyaki
Barb G.

Could have been way better...so the Tokyo Joes near us (Chandler) closed several months ago and we had been missing it. I was in the area of the Mesa location so decided to stop and grab lunch to go. The place had no other customers, it was just 11:00am so perhaps because they had just opened. I ordered the Teriyaki Chicken Bowl with white rice and teriyaki sauce and I also ordered Chicken Spring Rolls with peanut sauce. It only took a few minutes to get my order and as I was getting in my car, the server came running out because the Spring Rolls weren't included in the bag. My bad too...I never checked! Got to my office and started by opening the Spring Roll and taking a bite...and then spitting it out! As I looked at it, tore the wrapping back, I was met with rotten avocado (see pictures). I guess I didn't even notice before putting a bite in my mouth but immediately realized something was dreadfully wrong. I opened the second roll only to find the exact same rotten avocado contained within. And the peanut sauce wasn't smooth and had a oily component to it; actually you can see the oil around the sauce in the photo. The Teriyaki Chicken Bowl was ok. It certainly wasn't what I had remembered from previous visits at the one by us. The chicken was flavorless and although it was cooked through, it truly lacked that bit of char on the outside edges. There was one large broccoli flower, edamame, a few carrot shards, and some fairly uncooked zucchini. The rice was almost cooked through and I get some like their rice a bit "crunchy"...I do not. The sauce was served on the side and it was thick and had an ok teriyaki taste. Overall the lunch wasn't what I had expected and I doubt I'll be back again. It will be a memory of the past!

Asian Chicken & Rice Soup from outer space that never had good food!!!

Worst asian food ever!!! Had Asian Chicken & Rice Soup, OMG overpriced and cheap ingredients, awful food. First bite I almost want to cry that bad. So salty, nothing but cheap ingredients, simply HORRIBLE. Don't bother wasting your time & money!!!

The served dish of flaccid sea creature. They called it mahi mahi. I believe it was a water bat of some sort.

Service was good. People working were friendly. And fast! My problem is the food. Not even close to what is advertised. And certainly didn't taste like one would assume. My wife recommended this place as it's near her office and eats here often. I decided to tag along. Saw the mahi mahi bowl sign as it looked delicious and I'm a fan of mahi mahi. Staff were friendly and food was fast. BUT the food did not resemble what I ordered. I ordered to go, so I did not know till I got home. Attached is a pic of what I believe is boiled mahi mahi, I think. Could be snail, turtle or some other flaccid creature from the deep sea. Nothing like the advertisement posted in the restaurant . I would still recommend this place for a regular teriyaki bowl, but cannot recommend anything else and the advertising / marketing is completely deceptive. I refuse to place blame on the staff. They're doing their job well. Restaurant was clean. This specific offering is a mess.

Love trying new places to eat!! I guess you can say this was one place I would eat at every day if I could! I love "healthy" food's, and Tokyo Joe's did not disappoint at all. It is located in a cute center, the set up is nice. Great atmosphere, and the customer service was excellent! We have never been here so the gentleman had to walk us through what was on the build your own boxes! Seriously this was so excellent, literally everything I love in one shot! We got Bento Box, mine had teriyaki chicken with white rice, spicy tuna, Udon Noodles, spring salad with this excellent ginger soy dressing. The other box contained, mango sushi rolls, dumplings, and udon noodles with a chocolate chip cookie The black tea is so good too! We we will be back so we can try more delicious items in the menu!!

I got the teriyaki bowl and devoured it. It's well priced and yummy. It wasn't too busy but I went at an odd time of day. It was made in a good amount of time for the amount of customers. They were working hard on to go orders too. I would go back to this location if I'm in the area. I was out doing errands and my friend talks about this place so I figured I'd give it a try.

Poke bowl & spring rolls

TJs located on Val Vista opposite the Dana Park mall has a great atmosphere, service with fun, healthy food at reasonable prices. Service by Manager Louis was fast and professional. My poke bowl was large for the price and filling. Recommended.

Banh mi bowl w salmon mango sushi

Banh mi bowl may not have had every traditional nuance of a banh mi sandwich but I need this every day. I honesty needed to eat 2 of these it was so good and the brown rice was cooked perfectly, chicken sauced just right Asian bbq flavor, good greens but the highlight was the soft boiled egg! Don't take this off the menu please.

I regret eating here. You can get better California rolls at the grocery store. The yakatori was so bad I felt like crying.

What I love about this spot is that they give do not skimp out on portions; you will get your money's worth every visit. Heaps of fresh fish and as many toppings as you want. I believe that this is family-owned business and the staff are very kind. My order is usually this: Mixed greens and Brown Rice Salmon Albacore Tuna Eel sauce, Ponzu Wonton Crisp Crab Salad Seaweed Salad Edamame Masago Cucumbers Green Onion Ginger But I always try something different when I visit. Can't go wrong with how you customize your poke as you can always taste the quality and freshness. As for pricing, it can be a little pricey...averaging about $20 but to be fair, it is seafood...so you'd expect it to be pricey. Overall, I will continue coming to this location for poke. I'd rate this place a strong 9/10. Adam Nguyen Copyright 2026 - All Rights Reserved.

I split it with him (because they put plenty in one bowl) and had white rice, salmon, tuna, spicy mayo, their house sauce, cucumbers, green onion, edamame, avocado, furikake, sesame seeds, and wanton strips in our bowl. This is one of my favorite ways to eat healthy and delicious food. My only regret? Not adding more veggies! Because I probably would've enjoyed them! The man taking our order was very fast and efficient and chill. Their bathroom and dining room was clean. My only complaint is that my husband mentioned that the salmon was slimy, which I noticed when we were adding ingredients to our bowl. The salmon had that white film for when it's been sitting out for a little bit. Also, I dislike paying extra for avocado. But all things considered, this place had GREAT food that I was able to split (or nail the whole thing because it's so tasty) for around $16. ...I'll probably be back!

It's tucked away in the corner of a strip mall, and I've probably passed it a gazillion times and never even noticed it was there. My friend had called the day before to see if there was anything gluten-free on the menu. They were so helpful when we showed up. They had remembered her call and could tell her exactly what was gluten free. This is a very casual order at the counter kind of place. The dining room is simple, but that's okay because the focus is on the yummy food. They have single plates and double plates on the menu. I got a plate that had kalbi and kalua pork. It was served with white rice, macaroni salad, and kimchi. It was amazing! The pork tasted Smoky and delicious, the kalbi beef had just the right amount of sweetness to it. The macaroni salad was also perfect. I got quite a bit of food for my money. I was able to make it into two meals because there was no way I was going to finish it in one sitting. I really like Hawaiian food, and this one is so much better than some of the chain restaurants. It's slightly more in price, but it's 100% worth it. We sat and talked for a couple hours at least. While we were sitting, there was a period when every table was taken. So it does seem like quite a few people know about this place and come. I highly recommend it!

OG sauce, island fin fire, pozu, wicked wahine, and shoyu. Shoyu is your basic soy sauce. The wicked wahine is a little sweet. Ponzu is usually a little citrusy tasting. I believe island fin fire was a little spicy. The OG sauce is probably what people usually get when they build their own bowl if they're not looking for something exotic. This is what is said about their marinating sauces: The OG sauce is a bold and savory flavor. It has fresh jalapeños and fresh sweet onions that marinate in sesame oil, olive oil, rice wine vinegar and a premium gluten free soy sauce. Shoyu is a premium gluten free soy sauce. Ponzu is a citrus based soy sauce. It has fresh orange juice, fresh lemon juice, and fresh lime juice that are mixed with the premium gluten free soy sauce. Island Fin Fire is their spicy sauce.
