    Red Dragon Roll

Another great spot I'd never visited before yet plan to come back soon! We met for a business meeting of sorts and each ordered a different sushi rolls and street tacos. I enjoyed Al Pastor tacos and a red dragon roll. My dining partner got mushroom tacos and wild snow crab avocado; and a fuego roll and ribeye tacos. It was a busy night and we got our food service quickly. Our water glasses were constantly attended too; and the family style food presentation was flawless! The restaurant and comfortable but does get pretty loud on a busy night.

SumoMaya Updated Yelp Review: 2.0/5 This one pains me to write. The last time I dined at SumoMaya was about 10 years ago and at that time I gave it a 5/5-star experience. I remembered it as a vibrant, trendy, elevated dining destination with great food and a fun atmosphere. So when I decided to bring my mom (who had never been) to try their Arizona Restaurant Week menu, I was genuinely excited. Unfortunately... much has changed. Let me start with the positives because there were a few. The inside ambiance is still fantastic. SumoMaya absolutely nails the vibe. Modern, sexy, upscale energy with a lively crowd, gorgeous interior design, and a house DJ spinning deep house that honestly may have been the highlight of the night. If you're looking for a place to grab cocktails, enjoy music, and soak in a cool atmosphere? Sure. For that alone, they still have something going for them. Also, our server was excellent -- friendly, attentive, and professional. Now...the food. We arrived around 7:30 PM and didn't leave until roughly 9:30 PM, which felt excessive considering we were doing a fixed Restaurant Week menu. While our server was great, the kitchen/food pacing was painfully slow. The Breakdown: Maya Roll - 4/5 The clear winner of the night. Fresh, flavorful, well-balanced, and honestly the only dish that reminded me why SumoMaya used to have the reputation it did. Pad Thai Pork "Al Pastor" - 1/5 This was rough. The noodles were noticeably overcooked, the flavor was bland, and overall it felt confused conceptually and poorly executed. Definitely not a dish I'd ever order again. Chilean Sea Bass w/ Miso Glaze - complicated . This dish deserves its own courtroom trial. The first sea bass plates came out undercooked to the point where the fish practically looked ready to swim away. Let's be clear: Chilean sea bass is not sushi. Serving undercooked fish in this context is not just disappointing -- it's a legitimate food safety concern. That initial version? 0/10. Once corrected, the bigger issue became the miso glaze, which was aggressively overpowering. To the point where both my mom and I felt a bit queasy after a few bites. Without lime? 1/5. With lime squeezed over it to cut through the miso overload? 3/5. Even then, it was just... mediocre. I've had far better Chilean sea bass elsewhere -- buttery, delicate, flaky perfection. This wasn't that. Given the glowing reviews I had read about this dish, this was one of the bigger disappointments of the night. Mexican Street Corn - 0/5 As a side, we were served the Mexican Street Corn, and unfortunately this was another major miss. I love Mexican street corn and have ordered it at countless restaurants throughout Arizona, so I was excited to try SumoMaya's version. Sadly, this wasn't even remotely close to what I'd expect from authentic or well-executed street corn. My mom, who is a chef, immediately commented that it tasted like canned corn, and honestly, I had to agree. There was very little of the bold flavor profile that makes Mexican street corn so addictive. The cotija, lime, spice, and cream elements that should make the dish pop were either absent or completely overwhelmed by the watery dish itself. 0/5 stars. In fact, this may have been the worst Mexican street corn I've ever had at a restaurant. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, especially considering how many excellent versions of this dish can be found throughout the Valley. Bread Pudding - 0/5 I don't say this lightly: possibly the worst bread pudding I've ever had. Dry. Hard. Portions of the bread tasted borderline burnt. Instead of warm, decadent comfort-food dessert vibes, it felt like chewing on a stale kitchen experiment gone wrong. Final Verdict: This is where it gets tough. If we hadn't been dining on the Restaurant Week prix fixe, I honestly would have felt severely swindled, because the standard menu pricing here is not cheap -- and based on the quality of what came out of the kitchen, I simply don't see the value. The only reason this review gets 2 stars instead of 1 is because: Great ambiance Awesome house music / deep house DJ Excellent server One good sushi roll But based purely on food quality? This was deeply disappointing. I genuinely hate saying this because I remembered SumoMaya so fondly, but I will be shocked if this restaurant maintains longevity if this is the level of food consistently leaving the kitchen. Would I come back? Maybe for drinks, ambiance, and the music. Definitely not for dinner.

This place is super sexy place with good service and delicious food. We are vegan and were able to have sushi, Shishido peppers, and mushroom tacos. We loved the Tóxica cocktail. I would come back!

Sumomaya brunch is awesome! Great food and service from Tessa. The price is very decent too with the amount of food and fun vibes you get! I really Enjoyed our time here for brunch today! You will be FULL!!

We had bottomless brunch for Mother's Day 5/9/26 PROS- A good amount of food & variety of shared plates for the table. Great music with live dj. Plenty of seating including an enclosed patio. Bottomless drinks were replenished quickly. Food was pretty decent overall. Eric brought out a complimentary desert for my mom. CONS- There's no valet service on the weekend, parking is limited. I asked if I can bring a small cake and was told they can't hold it in the kitchen only behind the host stand. You only get one flavor of the bottomless margaritas you can't switch flavors. The bathroom stalls have frosted doors with only about 85% privacy, check out my pic for reference. We loved everything but the pomegranate guacamole needed some salt. The Açaí was liquidity. The Wagyu & eggs were good, small meat portion but it was filling after all the shared plates. FYI- you can't take any food home so eat up :) Shout out to our server Eric he was fantastic!

If you are looking for amazing food you need to travel to Scottsdale! This restaurant gives you top notch "the wow" for beautiful presentation, flavor and amazing service! Our server Dillion was amazing! His recommendations really hit the spot! We had sushi, noodles and mahi mahi tacos. The appetizers to start were pomegranate guacamole and street corn. I will definitely be back to try more of their amazing menu! The ambience when you walk in is so beautiful. I loved the tree in the middle of restaurant and really cool decor! And to end the night as a birthday celebration I had their tres leches cake! 10/10!

2nd time here for brunch and took my fiancé (his first time) and we had a great experience but come hungry! Our waitress was fantastic. She offered us "SAMPLES" of every starter--when you hear the word "sample" you think smaller portions. We said--sure let's do it. Well... It was a plate of everything and it sent us into another universe. We both don't like to waste food so we did our best to not leave too much over and we had to tap out missing a few plates of starters and desserts. We did at least take bites of our entrees but had so much regret trying to keep up with the starters. Best starter for the fiancé was the sumo rangoons and for me it was the pancake street tacos. The bacon and eggs were definitely an honorable mention. The tres leches oatmeal was decent but should have been served more warm I wish the waitress had used better verbiage when stating samples and trying one of each--we thought single serving samples to get a feel--ya know. We were so full we just took bites of our entrees and wasted so much food This would be best with a group to feel better about sampling all the food.

Came here for restaurant week. Parking was easy. We got the Al pastor pad Thai without meat- it seemed a bit saucy and the taste didn't seem too different or unique from a regular pad Thai (although having the meat could've been the reason). The sea bass was so silky and the sauce was good- would've been great with some rice. We also added on the sashimi, and they were thick cuts. The bread pudding had too much coconut for me, but overall not too sweet and the pudding had a firm texture. I ordered the matcha cocktail, which was light and not too sweet (it was on the smaller side though). Everything came out relatively quick, and they did pack up the leftovers for us. I would've preferred if they separated the shared dishes.

Apologies for the blurry picture but I LOVE this place. I've been here twice, once for dinner and once for brunch. For dinner I had the ceviche and it was SO GOOD! I was here for a bachelorette brunch and the mimosas and vibes were fantastic! They had a bunch of options and there was something for everything! The interior design and vibes were amazing and I can't wait to come back

I'm gonna start with the pro tip for Sumomaya: when you enter, the hostess station is right in front of you. The bathroom is to the left of the hostess station. We had a dinner reservation at Sumomaya and were seated at the first booth on the right, in the main restaurant space. Great corner view of the entire restaurant, which I took a lovely tour of while looking for the bathroom. Its not obvious that it's back towards the entrance. Despite this being a QR Code menu restaurant (I am not a slave to my phone, I detest this), we had fantastic service and the food was good. Happiest Ending roll was meh, guacamole and round chips were ok, but the surprise hit was the okonomiyaki style peppers. The Mexican street corn off the cob was also quite good. The service was top notch. Thoughtful, observant, and food was brought out quickly. There was a live DJ Saturday night curating vibes. I didn't find out if the tree in the middle was real but we do love a tree in a restaurant. We saw dates, girl groups, work groups. Twas a good time for all!

If you're looking for your next date spot in Scottsdale, you need to go to SumoMaya! The vibes & aesthetic here set the mood & the lighting is incredible. The service is speedy & gives great recommendations! Mexican Asian Fusion is great because regardless of what your order, you're going to get something delicious! If you're a matcha or lychee fan you need to get the Match-A Date! The paella has a great variety of seafood in it & the layers of flavors in the Achiote chicken are spot on; some smokiness, spice and a touch of sweetness! Add it to your list for Scottsdale next time you're there!

I just don't understand the hype around this place. I've been here multiple times for brunch and dinner and it's just not my thing. I've tried almost everything on their brunch menu and I have never been able to find something I like. Yes, I eat it but never finish the dish because the combinations are just weird in my opinion. I get it's supposed to be a fusion restaurant but the Asian and Mexican flavors just don't couple each other very well. The option for all you can eat brunch for $45 or so is a great idea and I do love that option! I just wish the food was better! The most recent time I went the server was not personable and acted like we were bothering her when we asked about recommendations.

    Dan Dan Noodles
    marko j.

Brought my gf here for her bday. Service was great. Our server Diamond was very welcoming and courteous. The Maya Roll was delicious, the crispy rice was a good touch. The Dan Dan Noodles were the standout dish, absolutely delicious and bold in flavor. The matcha drink was super good too. The Al Pastor Pad Thai was sadly disappointing. Much too bitter and there was more egg than pork. The tres leches cake was also too dense and dry, which is the opposite of what a tres leches is supposed to be. We've been here before so I'm willing to chalk this up as a fluke. I'd go back but wouldn't get the pad Thai or tres leches again.

What dress code (for a female) would you suggest for a dinner on Valentine's Day?

You can definitely dress up for SumoMaya in general, but for V day you can dress up even more if you like. You can easily do cocktail or even a simple gown. There are no rules for V-day.

Do they offer a kids menu?

No, they don't but they mainly serve tapa style menu. So the portion sizes are super small.

Lots of Vegan. The restaurant is accommodating to dietary restrictions

Our party arrived right on time for our reservation, but we were not seated until 15 min later because our table was not ready. It took about an additional 15 min to get tap water for the table (there was not enough provided anyways), and to place our orders too another ~20 min. The food did not arrive until 30 min later. For context, we eventually learned that the restaurant was short staffed and the bartender was also operating as our waiter. When the food finally arrived, there was a mix-up on what was delivered. We had checked with the staff who delivered one of the dishes: we ordered the "wild mushroom" side, but what we received did not look quite like it. We asked clarifying questions x2, but were assured, "no, it is the wild mushroom." Turned out, it was the mushroom empanada that was delivered to our table, which we originally did not order. The management did rectify the situation upon the conclusion of the event when we were paying the bill, but to us, it felt a bit accusatory as if we intentionally wanted to cause a huge fuss about the final total, which was absolutely not the case. The food in general was delicious. If this was a more standard dining experience, it would have been 4-5 stars just for the food. The service was very subpar, and really colored the entire experience negatively, therefore the two star review. I understand that staffing shortages happen -- fine. My family has worked in food service as wait staff for 25+ YEARS, so I am empathetic. But for management to ring up our bill and then come confront us in an inflammatory manner, making us feel like we were wrong, on an occasion to celebrate something special, was extremely disappointing.

We sat outside in the evening shade for a nice gathering. We shared the Cuban Caesar salad with romaine, manchego cheese, sliced pears, toasted pepitas, masa croutons, avocado, fried plantain chips and Aji amarillo Caesar. The salad was crisp, well dressed and delicious with the fried / curled plantain chips. The shrimp cerviche with fried plantains, blue corn tortilla chips, lime, cilantro and cucumber pico de gallo was ok but not remarkable. Our final selection was the Gaucho spiced skirt steak with chimichurri, and masa potato cakes. The steak was overcooked, not medium rare, bland taste and tough. The potato cake was tasteless. Overall, the ambience and service was good, however, the food lacks any hint of Cuban flare except for the fried plantains. When I think of Cuban food, I salivate for the unique taste profiles with a hint of sweetness from the fruits. At The canal Club, I found it non-existing. The name, setting, and environment is good but the kitchen needs to let in on the theme being Cuban.

She was incredibly sweet, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. Great food, fun drinks, live entertainment, and excellent service. We'll definitely be back!

Friends had been to the Montauk before and invited us to meet them for a weekend lunch…read more I made a reservation, so we could be sure to sit inside, since it is already well over 100 degrees outside. The six of us were seated across from the bar, and it was HOT . I started sweating and needed to use the menus as a fan and drink water to try and cool off. The restaurant had already been open for almost 2 hours, so I am not sure why it was so hot inside (others in our party were hot too, so I wasn't just me). Positives are the restaurant's beach decor and the hamburgers. Several people in our party ordered burgers, and they were cooked to perfection and the fries were really good! Negatives are very few seafood menu options and the fish tacos were terrible. They were drowning in a mayonnaise based slaw. The corn tortillas were really fresh and tasty, but when I bit into my taco I could mostly only taste mayonnaise and the pickled onions. Our friends even made an unsolicited comment that my tacos did not look good. Luckily, I selected fries as my side, because they were the best thing on my plate. With a name like Montauk, and the beach decor, I expected more fresh seafood options on the menu. More than half the menu was not seafood (Mediterranean platter, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, brussels sprouts, salads, etc.). Unfortunately, Montauk does not live up to the hype.

Maple & Ash Scottsdale was a very memorable dinner. I sat in the bar area in a comfy little round…read morebooth, and I would definitely recommend the bar area to dine in for solo or small groups: modern, sleek, and great service. We kicked things off with a complimentary prickly pear vodka cocktail (delicious) paired with a comp app -- looks like they rotate these, and I got hummus with crudite and crackers. During the meal, there were 2 standout dishes that made this memorable. - Hamachi Crudo: THE BEST crudo I have ever had. They switch up the dressing regularly, but whatever they put on mine was unforgettable - 10 oz Wagyu Strip: solid steak, but nothing "Wagyu" tasting. It didn't have that melt-in-your-mouth fatty richness I was hoping for from wagyu and was slightly chewy. - Scallops: tender! - Asparagus: came with a creamy sauce which was a great touch - Chocolate Espresso Mousse Cake: MAGICAL. Layered, with crunchy pralines and vanilla ice cream. If you've had the chocolate hazelnut cake at Carbone, this gave me major similar vibes... that good! Will absolutely be back to try a different cut of steak and also the loaded baked potato. The ambience alone is worth the trip, but the crudo and that cake are what's going to stick with me.

My wife and I celebrated my birthday at Maple & Ash, and it was an incredible experience from start…read moreto finish. The food, service, and ambiance were all truly five-star. Some of the standout items for us were the mocktails and the pasta. The Pillows of Love pasta absolutely lived up to the hype and was one of the highlights of the meal. We also enjoyed the mac and cheese, mushrooms, steak, and seafood. Everything was beautifully prepared, high quality, and worthy of the restaurant's reputation. If I had one minor critique, it would be the king crab legs. They are char-grilled, which gives them a smoky flavor that wasn't quite our personal preference. That said, the quality of the crab itself was excellent, and it's more a matter of taste than a criticism of the preparation. The atmosphere made for a perfect birthday dinner--upscale, energetic, and memorable without feeling stuffy. Combined with outstanding food and attentive service, it made for a special evening that my wife and I won't forget. If you're looking for a restaurant for a celebration, date night, or simply an exceptional dining experience, Maple & Ash delivers. We'll definitely be back.
