As someone who's usually not a big fan of ramen, I love this place because it offers brothless ramen and rice bowls (donburi), and has a good selection of non-meat / seafood and vegetarian options. In fact, they don't only have 1 vegetarian option, but 3 (mapo tofu, vegan BBQ, and vegan karaage). From the outside, the place looks very average. But I could see why this place is very popular and is one of the highest rated ramen restaurants in the city. The food was delicious, noodles were chewy and bouncy, and they had a good selection of items with lots of customization options (able to omit or add certain ingredients). [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside was quite small and often packed, especially during peak lunch and dinner hours.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The walls were adorned with Japan-inspired murals including Mount Fuji, cherry blossom trees, and a cat eating a bowl of ramen - very cute.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was hospitable and very friendly. Every table had 2 bottles containing konbu vinegar and chili oil that you could mix into your bowl. After finishing your bowl, you can ask for a complimentary extra scoop of rice (oimeshi) to mix with the remaining sauce. Ordering was done via QR code on the table. We tried 3 items and everything was excellent: 1) Aburi Salmon Mazesoba - The noodles we chose with this bowl was thin ramen. I liked how chewy and bouncy the noodles were. It was even better because it was brothless (not a fan of the typical ramen broth because I always found it too salty). This mazesoba bowl was perfect - very flavourful, and the salmon was much like the aburi salmon you'd get in other Japanese restaurants. The spicy mayo was omitted by request through the online ordering system. Every mazesoba came with soft-boiled onsen egg (perfectly runny and great for mixing with the rest of the bowl), shiitake mushrooms, green onion, corn, nori, minced garlic, and roasted sesame seeds. We opted for extra corn, nori, and garlic. A fully satisfying flavour bomb in one bowl. 2) Garlic Shrimps Mazesoba - The shrimps here were sautéed with garlic and we could taste the strong garlic flavour, which I loved. Tender pieces of shrimps sat on top of soba noodles (we could choose between 4 different types of noodles), along with all of the mazesoba toppings. The soft-boiled onsen egg was perfectly runny, just like in the other bowls. We also added extras into this bowl (corn, shiitake mushrooms, green onion, and garlic). 3) Unagi Donburi - This was also 10/10. The rice was nice and soft, what you'd expect in a good donburi. The unagi was perfect, and I wish there were more slices of unagi in the bowl. It also came with onsen egg and shredded nori (seaweed), and we added fried garlic for the extra topping. Besides being able to customize the ingredients, we were also able to customize the spice level (we chose no spice for all bowls) and add additional toppings. We added vegan BBQ to one of the bowls, just to try it. The vegan BBQ wasn't my cup of tea because the taste and texture reminded me of actual char siu which I didn't like, but it was good to have tried it as a side / add-on item instead of having to order a whole bowl of it. The only downside of the menu was the lack of actual vegetables (as a side or add-on). It would've been nice to have the option to order bok choy or some green vegetable to eat with the bowls. Dessert selection looked pretty solid (Japanese Mille Crepe, Matcha Cheesecake, Kinako Ice Cream, Taiyaki), but we were too full for dessert. Brothless ramen. Let that sink in. As someone who believes the broth is the very soul of ramen--I've been known to leave a shop with a to-go container of just the liquid gold, this concept was a bit of a head-scratcher. I couldn't quite bring myself to make the leap on this first visit. So, while my dining companion (a regular) dove headfirst into her order, I played it safe with the chicken karaage and pork gyoza. Both were delicious, for the record. My friend got her usual vegetarian ramen with tofu, medium spicy, and the resulting happy sniffling from across the table was a powerful endorsement. I couldn't really taste the spicy mayo but I liked how the onsen egg added another layer of creaminess to the dish. Flavorful and large portions at this cute mazesoba shop! Their signature spice level was surprisingly spicy, but nothing the end scoop of rice couldn't solve. I ordered the pork Katsu udon and found the bowl a decent combination of flavour however, not particularly the best broth. The restaurant is located next to the subway and a large Green P parking lot. This makes the location convenient for drivers and transit users. Came here with a group of 3 and I ordered the dinner combo set of steak Mazesoba (w/ ramen), pork dumplings, and fried banana ice cream for dessert. Portions were very good and filled me up especially since it was the combo set. The price is also very reasonable considering that you get 3 different dishes. The ramen was cooked well and combined with the steak and toppings, made the overall dish extremely satisfying and delicious. Adding some vinegar and chilli oil made it even better. It's a small but cute place. I wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't been intentionally brought here. So "Mazesoba" means brothless ramen. That was interesting to know. I tried the Chicken Mazesoba with udon noodles. It was different from the traditional light soba I had expected as it was a little bit on the oily side. Overall, the dish had a great flavor profile, and the noodles were easy to chew. Service was great. Service deserves 5/5 as very polite and hospitable. Prices are reasonable. Portions are good, not too much but can satisfy your stomach. Had the Mentaiko Takoyaki which was a summer special. The mentaiko mayo was ok, and the batter was nice, however there was really no filling inside and the tako was almost nonexistent which was disappointing :(. The Mazesoba was ok but average. There is a good amount of toppings but I felt like the flavours were a bit lacking. I got the Zenbu Mazesoba that comes with a portion of chashu on top of their original. The chasiu had a nice charred to it but overall was quite bland when mixed with everything else. I do recommend the ramen over the udon as I think the ramen will soak up and be coated with the sauce better, although I knew that wouldn't be the case with udon. The broth severely lacked depth of flavour, noodle texture was a bit too chewy (no bounce). I don't know how this place has such high ratings. I've been looking for good mazesoba options in Toronto for some time now since having tried it in Japan/Korea/Vancouver/LA. Megumi definitely fills the void and they have quite the selection. Our party of 3 (+1 one toddler) were seated promptly and our server was very accommodating especially with the toddler. Currently still in their soft opening phase so there is a 20% off mains and 10% off the unagi eel and Angus beef rib one. We came as a table of three around 6pm yesterday and it was not busy at all. The staff were busy with delivery orders but we were seated quickly and got our menus. For all the mains you can pick from thin ramen noodles or thick udon noodles. Our entire table went thick. I ended up getting the megumi mazesoba which has all three types of pork (cha siu, pork belly slice, and minced ground pork), onsen egg, egg, corn and a few other garnishes. Following the steps on the wall! 1. Mix well 2. Can add kombu vinegar and or chili oil locates on the table for added umami flavour or a kick of spice (the vinegar was not too strong so I ended up adding a lot) 3. Near the end, you can ask for a bowl of mini rice to add to the sauce Overall, the flavours were pretty good. The noodles were cooked well although I do prefer them to be a bit chewier. I almost jumped up screaming upon seeing a new noodles restaurant in my area. To be honest, I'd never heard of the "mazesoba" before in my life, so I have to thank the owners profusely for bringing it here as it is delicious! We came on a weeknight at around 5:30pm and the place was empty (though it turned quite busy when we left at around 7pm). The inside is a neat and simple place with tables for 2-4 people each and some seating at the bar. The menu is also pretty minimalistic, but I still suffered decision anxiety in trying to pick from the various toppings - apparently, the sauce could differ as well. I finally settled on the vegan mazesoba, while my friend ordered the zenbu. It was an absolutely scrumptious bowl! The udon (there is a choice of ramen or udon) was perfect, thick and chewy exactly as I like it. The ingredients (mushrooms, wonton bits, corn, etc.) complimented one another so well, providing a fantastic mix of flavours and textures. I should warn everyone that I selected the "mild" spice level and my lips were numb at the end - not that this stopped me! Next time, I'll be challenging the "signature spicy" - and upgrading to a large bowl. The service was exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Our server overheard my friend and I discussing the merits of various ramen restaurants in Toronto, and gave us some excellent recommendations. I stopped in after seeing Chuan C's picture and review AND because I never had time to visit the Vancouver Mazesoba restaurant (again). I visited during the day with my friend Tobias. The location is so easy to get to, it is so close to the St Clair Station so it was easy for me to stop in from Yorkdale then hop the 512 over. The location has a nice patio which I bet will be ver nice once the weather improves. Be warned, the location is closed from 3:00-4:30 while the staff have late lunch and reset for the dinner hours. My friend and I arrived in that window and the restaurant was nice enough to let us in because it was quite cold. Paula received us, who was so nice to share that she is Indonesian with training from Japan on making Mazesoba. Her journey to refining the teachings from her Master is just pure dedication. I ordered the original spicy and my companion ordered their special that had the char Siu. We also had an order of fried chicken, partly this was the first experience for him to experience this kind of food (or as we explained to Paula, he came all the way from Germany to try a bowl ;) ). The water was served first, then fried chicken and then our bowls. We did wait a bit because they were finishing lunch. Perhaps a website posting on their hours would be nice for patrons because in a post pandemic environment we patrons also want to respect work life balance and eating hours when possible. The food portion was quite reasonable and all orders on bowls were adjusted by 20% except the fried chicken. Paula religiously refilled our water checking on us, the heat came from the Thai chilly, you can taste that unique bite on it. My companion was impressed, he never knew fried chicken could taste the way it did with the spicy mayo. He was impressed with his order. Instructions how to eat is also at the table. The location has a bit more soup than I expected and was quite nice with the noodle choice. I personally found there was something missing to marriage the flavours just can't put my finger on it. Nevertheless a great bite. The location is laid out quite well and not overly crowded. Washroom is to back behind the barn rolling door. The owner is really nice to the customers and she even remembered my boyfriend and I from Valentines even though it had been a few months. I called to reserve a spot at 1pm on Sunday both times, but it's not too busy. The appetizers are really nice! The shrimp tempura was crispy and tasty. The karaage from the appetizer was also really good. My boyfriend really liked the pork gyoza and the sauce it came with. For Valentines we got edamame instead of tempura which was ok. The drinks for the Valentines set (yuzu raspberry lemonade) were sweet and nice. I preferred them over the drinks that we were given for the dinner set. For dinner set, they gave us iced black tea, which was very strong. It was quite fragrant and nice but too strong for me to finish since I don't usually drink straight tea. My boyfriend really liked it and finished both. The mazesoba is quite good, and it tastes a lot better when you put the kombu vinegar! The megumi mazesoba which I ordered first time was really good. You get a lot of the dried seaweed flavour when you mix it, same goes for the karaage mazesoba. Unfortunately for the dinner set, the karaage that came with my mazesoba was a bit overcooked and dry. The noodles however were great and I enjoyed it a lot. My boyfriend also enjoyed his meals, he prefers the udon over ramen because it's thicker and a bit chewier. He ordered mild and said it was not spicy, but said adding the chili oil made it taste good. I recommend those coming to definitely try both condiments, especially the kombu vinegar! The portions for both times were very big and we both left full. My boyfriend got some complimentary rice to eat with his leftover sauce (oimeshi). The ramen and the udon that they serve here is likely not made in-house (which they didn't claim otherwise), because it wasn't as springy. I got the udon and bf had the ramen. Been coming back on a regular basis. Just can't get enough of the original Mazesoba and this style ramen. Had to update the photo because my old photo was missing the critical chives. One thing I've realized is how balanced the original is. First few bites will feel like it's not salty enough compared to traditional ramen and broth which are absolute salt bombs but make sure to mix down to the sauce hidden at the bottom. I used to use the kombu vinegar and chili oil to mix things up but actually don't even touch them anymore. Flavours are well balanced. For the spice, Level 1 is still all I can handle. :) By the end of the meal (don't forget to leave some of the sauce for the rice), I'm super satisfied and enjoying the flavours. Portion size is absolutely perfect for me. If I'm feeling super hungry, I'll upgrade to the larger size. Oh and this is one of the few places my young kids inhale their meals. Today was my first time coming to Megumi Mazesoba, and make no mistake, it won't be my last! From the moment I walked in, I was amazed by the ambiance of the establishment and how it was designed, then I was greeted humbly by Paula as I entered, and Steven from the kitchen then after. I ordered the house special and between the thin noodles with meat and egg and other ingredients, along with the white rice that came with it after to scoop up the rest of the sauce, I have to say that I was incredibly satisfied with my meal. Broth-less Ramen in my modest opinion is really underrated, and this Ramen Establishment along St. Clair East is one I would recommend hold heartedly. Nice and quaint broth-less ramen spot. Only saw two people working that night. Not sure if it was the manager and cook only but they were pushin out the food fairly quick. Probably about 10 of us while I was there for an hour. There's a patio if you wanted to sit outside and they take all forms of payment. Food was great esp the kicker where they give you a bowl of rice to put your leftover sauce on 4.5 out of 5 just cuz they seemed a little tight on staff and the location seemed a bit inconvenient. I happened to live near st Clair street car line so it was a ride away. It's a block east of st Clair station so it's not that bad if you live on the Yonge line. I think I'd come back as there's not a lot of broth-less ramen spots in the city. read more

Super nice and great food. Sat us at the bar but allowed us to move when a table opened up. They give you extra rice at the end if you have extra goodies and no noodles left. Menu is easy and food is awesome read more

My husband wanted a low sodium meal, so we ordered non spicy and no extra soy. The soup had a wonderful flavour.I loved the new tastes of pork and chopped onions. Paula, was most patient and courteous with my request. I am going to let everyone in my neighbourhood know that this new restaurant is a welcome addition to the various cuisines on this Yonge strip. First time ever hearing about Broth-less Ramen. So me and the wife had to try this. I am pretty sure this is the only place of its kind in Toronto serving Mazesoba. I am so happy I ended up eating here. I ordered the Megumi Mazesoba with Ramen Noodles as they give you the option of Udon or Ramen Noodles. Also chose the signature spicy. It was amazing. The braised pork belly crisp on the outside and tender inside both braised pork belly and pork chashu was melt in your mouth. The minded pork was a nice additional touch. They ajitama egg was designed for the noodles, the oozing yolk just covers the noodles making it a magical combination. The ramen noodles were chewy and springy but the right kind of chewy and springy which made these noodles PERFECT texture and meticulously cooked. I love traditional Ramen (w/ Broth) but I think Broth-less Ramen is my preferred of the two. The signature spicy level was a nice heat and enhancer. I also ordered the Iced Sencha Lemonade which was so refreshing and tasty. Service was fantastic. Our waitress explained everything to us and her recommendation when asked. She was very friendly and made this experience that much better. There is a bonus to this, which is they give you extra steam rice afterwards (on the house) so that you can finish the other ingredients in your plate when the ramen is completely devoured. Wish they gave extra ramen instead but I will not complain when something is gratis. The restaurant has so much seating and so spacious. Very clean facility in a very clean neighbourhood. Enjoyed all of their appetizers, in particular their takoyaki, and the thick noodle udon as well.

I went on a Friday night, and while it was busy, service was attentive. I had the original mazesoba at the mild spice level - the ramen had a nice chewiness, the sauce was tasty, and the onsen egg gave the dish a nice creaminess. You can ask for a complementary bowl of rice to use up the leftover sauce. I would definitely go back for more to try the other dishes! read more
