The beginner's class on Saturday morning is a great deal! I have never shot or held a gun before and I felt safe and well guided with the instruction. The time in the "classroom" is probably only 20 minutes and the rest of the time you are out on the "greens" or whatever the terminology is. All the people there and taking the class are RIDICULOUSLY friendly! There were random people introducing themselves to my husband and I and just chatting up a storm. I was able to hit several of the targets despite my lack of aim and it was a pretty fun time! I haven't been to other facilities but this one seemed really nice and well kept. It was the site for the shooting events for the 96 Olympics so that is something to brag about! read more

This place is great outdoor location. The instructors are great for first timers. The skeet and trap action is very hard to choose between. So plan to do them both. They are always on Groupon so you can try them for a very cheap rate. read more

I went here because me and my coworker were in Atlanta and were looking for something to do and this place just happened to be on the way back to our hotel. The guy we talked to at the front counter was very nice and helpful. The shooting area feels safe and the attendants help out by giving first timers tips. I saw this busines on Groupon, and thought it would be a perfect outing for my 2 sons and boyfriend for some fun, male bonding time. THEY HAD A BLAST! My older son has small arms experience but had never done this before. My younger has little to none so I wasn't sure about his reaction. The BF, well he is very familiar with firearms, but had never done this before. He was apprehensive going here just because we live an hour plus from the location, but all were looking forward to the trip. They went on a Sunday afternoon, the weather was fine and the drive out was uneventful. The GPS did take them on a weird route, but he used the noodle and found it easily. When they got there, the staff couldn't have been friendlier; he said that with their assistance, they shot better than anyone thought possible. Even though they all had their share of "shotgun kisses" they had a wonderful time and I've been instructed to be on the lookout for more Groupons so they can go again. I'm an intermediate shooter and was in ATL for the day and decided to stop by. I shot 8 rounds of trap. Almost everyone shooting there was a first or second timer. I got a good quality rental gun and did pretty well with it...mostly 20s-22s. Staff is friendly. Got muzzle swept more than I'd have liked but never got shot...so that's a plus. Saw a guy with an automatic throw the gun over his shoulder in a big sweeping motion after every shot. Range officer never corrected him. I eventually said something to him and he stopped...was apologetic. Overall a good range. I'll be back next time I'm in the A-T-L. read more

Miss Judy pulling Skeet is an experience not to be missed! She's fun and informative, but a little outrageous, so leave your up-tight behind! I would give the range a higher star rating, but I wish they would squad like ability shooters together. Sometimes it's ok to shoot with newbies, but sometimes you would like to shoot with more serious shooters. This club caters to new shooters, which is a good thing and newbies will be made to feel at home. read more

I have always found Tom Lowe shooting grounds to be a great place to spend an afternoon with friends. The staff is great and the prices are fine. We went skeet shooting today as a celebration with a friend. My husband is an avid hunter and skilled shooter, most of the meat we eat he has hunted. Despite my husband being a good shot, our "guide" made fun of my husband, his gun, and his friend the whole time. In fact, she got other guests to join in on the taunting. Though we have 2 tokens left, we won't be back. It made their day of celebration a day of frustration and ruined the mood. Worst customer service I've ever seen. read more

This place could be great if they were better organized and if they had better staff. There is a horrible staff member there, a woman (Judy) who cannot possibly be more unpleasant than people "jokingly" tell you before they send you to deal with her. So happy trio of Dad and two sisters encounters the rudest person anyone should have to deal with on a Sunday afternoon family outing. This might be okay if you can just say she was having a rare bad day, but the whole place warns you "watch out for Judy" beforehand. The only thing i want to watch out for are the guns and flying debris. Why do i have to "watch out" for a staff member? Why is she there? We eventually met Tommy who is a delight. He was pleasant and interacted with us and smiled.... Imagine a smile. I give him 5 stars! But overall this place deserves at best 2. Not planning to return here and i wouldnt recommend anyone go here. The unpleasantness youre subjected to is just not worth the time. Go somewhere else and enjoy your day. read more

I bought a day of shooting on Groupon... I was visiting from out of town & thought it'd be a fun afternoon... I WAS WRONG. Let me start off by saying how unorganized this place is. You walk in & there are stacks of paper of everywhere on the counter. I was given tokens, a gun and a box of "lady shells" and was told to go outside. Thankfully I've shot before & know how to use a gun-- If I was a beginner, I would have been as lost as one could be. There were no questions on what kind of gun you prefer, (20 g. 12 g. over/under, etc) I was given a 12 g. over/under. I was then given a box of shells that the guy described as "lady bullets"-- Yes, I'm a female, but that's insulting. I shoot ALL the time & can handle "man bullets." Upon going outside, it's more unorganized than the inside was. You pick a "lane" and wait for your turn. But don't think you're going to be by yourself-- you share your experience with another group of people. I guess picking lanes is pure luck because our "attendant" was one of the rudest people I have ever come into contact with. Her name is Judy- atleast that's what I was told- she was so rude I didn't even shoot that day. She single handedly ruined my experience. She yelled at the person I was with multiple times-- snapped about little things-- he took out his earplug for a minute to talk to me & she started yelling about it. He was holding the gun underneath his arm at one point while he was opening a box of shells- she went off. Ironically, another gentlemen in the group carried his gun like that the entire time & she didn't say a word to him about it. He was fed up with her as was I. She let everyone else in the group shoot doubles but only gave my friend singles. When he asked her why, she didn't have an answer, she said "because I said so." Finally, he said lets just leave. I wasted $24 to be snapped at and not even shoot. We went to another range a little farther away and I will NEVER be back at this place nor will I recommend this place to anyone else. read more

I am new to shot gunning and I have been very well pleased with my experience at Tom Lowe. The employees are very friendly and I think they make extraordinary efforts to be pleasant and helpful. They answer all my questions with patience and a caring attitude. They are honest in their suggestions and have shown me how to get the best deals and save money and not buy things I don't need. Located not far from Atlanta. Boyfriend needed to blow off steam so we tried this out. A new experience for the both of us. The staff kindly explained to us what the difference between trap and skeet was so that we made an informed decision of what we wanted to do. And they fitted us with appropriately sized guns. A voucher deal made this very affordable to try out. We were told which numbered area to go to. A staff member is there to set you up and throw out the clays. He was patient with us when we screwed up. Thanks. But sometimes he shot when we were not ready. If you want to play more than you initially purchased, you have to wait in line until the other group behind you finishes play. Even if someone in your group goes to get more shells while you are still playing. Annoying, but understandable. They are pretty busy on the weekend so waiting is likely. The gun ended up giving me a bruise and making me sore, so I am not exactly sure if I wanna do it again. But it was a interesting experience that I am glad that I pursued. read more

The only reason I gave Tom Lowe Trap and Skeet a 5 is because there is no 6. I have shot at many different gun clubs across the country, big, small, and some where in between and Tom Lowe is one of my favorites. It has it all location, pro-shop, professionally managed, hours of operation, huge club house, clean, and pullers(this is a plus if you come by yourself). It is also open to the public so no over priced membership fee, just show up and shoot. If you are new to the sport this is your place. There are guns for rent, ammo on site, and a beginners class that I believe is on Sat mornings. read more

I'm an experienced shotgun shooter having learned at a young age. I have been coming to Tom Lowe Shooting grounds since just after I moved to Atlanta in the summer of 2000. I shot a lot of skeet birds before I got married and had children. I don't shoot very often anymore. With my limited trips, I could go anywhere within a 100 mile radius. I keep coming back here. You cannot beat the camaraderie of a beginner's range. You won't get the same feel from a private club or any other clay range anywhere near Atlanta. Tom Lowe Shooting grounds has a unique culture. If you're trying to be super serious, sometimes you will be too distracted or the rhythm of the game won't be consistent enough to hit your perfect score. But - if you want, you can certainly get a field to yourself if you reserve it ahead of time. This place is where it all started for me in terms of competitive skeet shooting. I learned the finer points from the late David Akridge, a champion and former member of the staff. I participated in the Tuesday night skeet and trap league in the early 2000s for a couple of years. While the facilities are not shiny and new, all that matters is that the targets fly correctly and that the staff is courteous, helpful, and knowledgeable. I don't know what I would do without seeing Judy at least a couple of times a year. Luke is one of the people I would trust the most with any shooting question. Every time I go, it's like going home, and I end up having great conversations with faces both familiar and new. Some of my favorite shooting memories have been made here, and they rank up there with pheasant hunting in South Dakota and dove hunting in Argentina. I think it's rare to find a place to call your own that doesn't charge a steep membership fee. If you want to know what skeet, trap, and 5-stand shooting is all about, come here.
