Doctor Massarat is amazing! I had a terrible toothache from an infection and he did my first half of my treatment today. He took out the infection and got me feeling better within 30 minutes. He was very calm and funny as well! He specializes in root canals and it is apparent! I will never go to another specialist again. I would never imagine myself giving a 5 star review to a dentist especially one that does root canals. I tried to avoid seeing dental doctors. :/ I had a root canal done with dr. Massarat last year and I was so nervous. The procedure went well and experienced no pain and healed perfectly. Today I came in for pain on a different tooth and he examined me and recommended me to see an oral surgeon. They got me an appt. the same day. pros... are you in need of a root canal? well i had my very first one ever, and i went to see Dr. Tom Massarat, he was great. very professional and friendly. and he knows his stuff. i went in on friday, and i am still not feeling the least bit sore at all. he was so cool and even asnwered questions during the surgery. can't believe he could actually understand what i was trying to say. he answered all my crazy question too. all while watching the food network on t.v.. how cool is that, you can watch t.v. as you get your teeth worked on. another great part is that Dr. Tom take carecredit, which was a blessing for me as my insurance wasn't going to cover any of the surgery at all. so if you are in need of some extra money to apply in a medical sort of way, the carecredit is one way to go. cons... not a one. read more

On 24 Nov 2013, I went to Eastlake Endodontics (my dentist office referred me and made the appointment for me) for a root canal procedure. Dr. Leah Shen was superb...the procedure went well and was almost painless. Even before she stared on me, she made sure I was comfortable, thoroughly explained the procedure and what to expect, and best of all it went on almost painlessly. I thought the cleaning and exam I had a couple of weeks ago from my regular dentist was a breeze but this root canal procedure was a walk in the park. Dr. Shen surely deleted the stigma attached to such procedure off my mind. She was also very accommodating. When I complained that I came for the root canal procedure and not for a consult as was mistakenly scheduled, she understood that I did not want to take another leave of absence from work to come back for another day...she made time to ensure the procedure was done on that same visit. A truly classy professional that puts her patient's well being a priority. I am glad you did the procedure (I was led to believe, Dr. Massarat was going to tend to me). Well done! Came in for my consult and rather than have me come back to have my actual procedure, he performed the procedure right there and then. No pain whatsoever after my root canal. I went in to see Dr. Massarat after a fall left me with a broken front tooth in need of a complicated Root Canal. I was referred to Dr. Massart from my regular dentist, Dr. Halabo, and couldn't be happier with the experience! The office was able to fit me into the schedule easily and got everything taken care of as soon as possible.It was virtually pain free. I love Dr. Massarat! I have soft teeth, which means every 2 years or so I'm in Dr. Massarat's office having a root canal done. I've probably had 4 or 5 root canals by Dr. Massarat. I just had one yesterday, took a couple of tylenol afterward then that was it, pain was gone. He's an angel! He's makes the tooth pain go away so people can go on with their lives! He uses a Technically advanced treatment by using a microscope. I think that's why the pain is so diminished, the smaller the work area, the less the pain. I called yesterday complaining my face was throbbing and he fit me in to have some work done, I love him! Then he called to check on me and made sure I was ok. That's something Dr's just don't do anymore. I appreciate all of the work I've had done at Dr. Massarat's office, he cares, HE MUST or I would still be in pain! read more

I have had two root canals done in my life time. The first on in 1996. It was not a good experience, so I had reservations when my primary dentist (Dr. Steven Lou, Imperial Beach). Recommended that I get consult done. I did not feel any pain on my back lower tooth. I originally went in because I chipped it; probably grinding my teeth at night. Both doctors had their concerns that it may be time to get a root canal. I was in denial going it Dr. Massarat's office, I read some negative reviews. I am happy to say that was not the case with me. A patient was just walking out and said it was fast and painless. Just the initial pinch from the first local anesthetic. I was not given a bill up front, like someone else's review. I just confirmed my out of pocket estimate with Delta Dental. Norma checked me in and I felt welcome from the beginning. I had a cold that day and I was trying to talk myself out of having the procedure done today. Breathing was not a problem, even with a cold. Dr. Massarat is an expert at what he does. He was assisted by Crystal, who has worked for him for 13 years. What a great team! He took to the time to do a sensitivity test to confirm the tooth nerve was dead, and it was prudent to get the root canal. Because of my jaw line shape, he said it would probably take two visits. He stuck with it for 45 minutes and got the job done in one visit. He talked me through the whole process, checked for any pain or discomfort. I guess I am one of those folks that it takes a while for the local anesthetic to kick in. Once it did, it was smooth sailing. I like a previous patients comment, ". . .absolutely amazing. Don't waste your time looking around for another endodontist because it doesn't get better than this, promise." I felt good walking out after the procedure. He prescribed medication and said get it filled, before the local anesthetic wears off. Good advice. He called me to see how I was doing. Who does that these days? When all he does is root canal procedures day in and day out, you have no excuse about not being great at what you do. If you have to get a root canal, I highly recommend Dr. Massarat. read more

The guy is a pro. Which of course is what you would expect of somebody who's going to be digging around in a tooth inside your mouth. Dr Massarat told me shortly after I sat down the first time (I don't know if it's normal but I had to come back a week later) that this is all that he does. Dr. Massarat is a professional who truly cares about his patients, and it's obvious he loves what he does. My dentist referred me to him. I booked an appointment for a consult, but I was in so much pain that he squeezed me in. It's been a long time since I've received service where I didn't feel like another appointment to shuffle in and out. The staff was compassionate, as was he. He didn't lecture me or make me feel bad about having to see in in such dire straights. Instead, he and his staff kept asking if I was comfortable and offering way to help me get comfortable. My issue was with Crystal who works the front desk and Norma in the billing department. I was seen on 9/15/2020 for a root canal. The Dentist is in network for my insurance. I was overcharged $145.00. I informed Crystal that the amount she was asking me to pay was too much. She tells me that my insurance pays at 70%. I thought her statement was way out of line. I informed her that my insurance pays at 90%. She kept going back and forth and then says " $700 for a root canal is nothing ". I did not ask her for her opinion. I told her I will pay the amount and that the office would be issuing a refund for overpayment. The office charged code D3999 which is an unspecified code. The insurance company denied the charge because the office did not submit supporting documentation. I continued to contact the dental office regarding the overcharge. Crystal says to me "we went over this already " as if I was bothering her. The office says the code was for medication When getting a root canal the medication to numb is already included. I called Norma regarding this issue and she says "we went over this already it was for medicine". I filed a grievance on the office with union. I called the Dental office on May 3, 2021 and spoke with Crystal regarding my refund. She then transferred me to Norma who says there is no refund owed. I emailed my union representative and advised her of what I was told. She contacted the office by phone (the office was being contacted through correspondence with Crystal previously) and told me I should be getting a call from the office. Norma called to let me know I will be receiving a $145.00 refund. I received the check a few days later. I saw Dr Lea who was amazing. The billing issue was so unacceptable and Crystal front office skills are horrible. I will not be returning. read more

I see most reviews out of the few there are are good. Now I don't mean to come off as a crazy negative lady. I went to this office to check out a molar that had sensitivity when I ate sweets. My general dentists sent me to check if a root canal was necessary. So I get to the office. The staff is so so. Nothing remarkable. Once I was called to the back, an assistant took my xrays. The quality of their xrays, btw to my surprise considering this is a specialist office, was horribly coudly. (The xrays at my general dentist are so clear) Once the specialist arrives to my room he had a horrible attitude of " I dont care, you're waisting my time". At least that's how he come off to me. I'm sorry if you chose the wrong career and you are discontent with it, thats not our fault, these are my teeth we are talking about, and this is your job. I care a lot about my teeth, a specialist should too. Not this guy. He kept insisting the referral said I had pain and work done prior to coming in. I told him "no I haven't had any work done, and I don't feel pain. I feel discomfort only when I eat sweets, and my dentist said I have decay"and again his expression showed he didn't believe me or care. I was offended. It's my mouth, I know if there's been work done and if I feel pain. What I thought was the worst about the whole experience was that he glanced at the xrays and said there was no decay, and that "he doesn't go by what x-rays say, he goes by how the patient feels". I'm sorry what?! That has to be the most unprofessional and absurd thing I've ever heard someone in the medical/dentist industry say. Then he went saying again that I felt pain, I corrected him, and he proceeded to act like he didn't know what to do with me. First he claimed I should do the root canal, and in the end he said "If you don't feel pain, leave it alone" and a hope for the best kind of look. I went back to my dentist, they went ahead and removed the decay I did have, and it hasn't bothered me since. I don't know about you, but I personally wouldn't trust this endodontist... Idk, maybe he was just having a bad day. I don't wish him or his business any bad. But I do believe it's only fair to let others know about my experience. read more

So I came to Dr Massarat because the pain on a root canal became unbearable. I read he only did root canals, so I figured he was the correct person to go see. I was right!!!! I came in, front desk was absolutely friendly, they did X rays and was straight forward and so honest with what needed to be done, he knew I was in so much pain, I got a next day appointment and I left w a prescription for pain and antibiotics cause I had an infection. Finally I had some good sleep w the meds, came in next day and didn't hurt. I felt super comfortable and he did an amazing job.i highly recommend him. I have no dental insurance and the price was less than I expected, which was a super plus!!!! I had to ask couple of times if that was my total for entire procedure? And they said yes! I was like wowwwwwwww!!!!!! I hope I never have to go through another root canal but if I do, I found the right person for the job. read more

I had a root canal done by Dr. Massarat. Very good experience. Technically he is a 5. I thought he was a little quick in terms of bedside manner, but very pleasant and professional. With the technical side of things I thought he was excellent and very thorough. I took two motrins on the back side of the procedure and was done in terms of meds. Doc called the next day to make sure I was on track and I have never had any problems with this tooth again. I highly recommend him and would return with any future problems. read more

I have been to see him a few times now and every time, I have been in a lot of pain and he got me in asap no questions asked and went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable make sure I was not hurting at all for any part of the procedures. I can't say enough about Dr. Massarat as a dental surgeon & all-around great person! Even the idea of having dental surgery gives me chills. But with Dr. Massarat, I knew that I'd be in very capable hands. This is my second root canal by Dr. Massarat. Like many reviewers say, my procedure was painless, goes by quickly, and there's even entertainment (TV or nice tunes) to EASE your fears & take your mind off what's happening. He is very detailed, has a pleasant manner, and genuinely cares about his patients. He even called the next day (on a Saturday) to make sure I was doing OK! (How rare is that?) His staff also is friendly and professional, setting your mind at ease. If you have a dental problem or a dental emergency, I can't imagine going to anyone else! I drove 1 hour and 15 minutes (each way) to see him, and would do it again in a heartbeat. He's the BEST of the best in his field, so consider yourself lucky if you're ever a patient of his! Just had a root canal done by Dr. Massarat and I can say it was actually a very good experience. I had absolutely no pain during the procedure and minimal the day after. I was thinking of venturing into TJ to save $$$ but so glad I didn't. Beside the hassle you never know what you are going to get. With root canals it is just not worth the risk. Also the Doc was able to save my existing crown by very careful drilling which probably saved me thousands right there. He followed up the next day to make sure I was OK which is rare. All in all a root canal is a real bitch but by going to a professional its not a bad as seemed. Hope this helps others on the fence looking for the right choice. KD read more

The office charged us at the beginning of our appointment. Once I received the Explanation Of Benefits (EOB) from my insurance, it had a charge code 3999 - Unspecified procedure for $125 that was not allowed per in-network negotiated fees. I emailed and called the office about the refund of the difference from the amount patient owes on the EOB and the amount charge which came to a total of $145 but was told the account is balances and they emailed me a copy of the ledger bill which included a $20 charge labeled "COVID 19" but never informed me or submitted to the insurance in the claim. After talking to the Insurance they also informed me they are NOT allowed to charge anything related to COVID 19. The insurance company called the office and they we told they are allowed to charge the unauthorized $125 and $20 even if the negotiated price does NOT allow them and will not reimburse the $145 they over-charged me. I now have to file a formal complaint through my insurance company about this dental office. read more

Let me start by saying if I could give him 1 million stars I would! Dr. Massarat is a super nice guy with excellent bedside manner. My consultation was quick & simple but thorough. The office was nice and squeaky clean, the staff were very helpful & friendly so I scheduled my root canal for the next week. I went in first thing in the morning and Dr. Massarat made me feel comfortable & helped me to not be afraid of my first root canal. If you haven't had one don't be intimidated, it's not bad at all. He let me know there would be no pain, no blood, no swelling and assured me that I was in good hands being that this is all he does and does it well. I was happy to hear that but it was hard to believe, no pain, yeah right? So after the procedure (all of 30 mins) was over he told me I needed to come back, free of charge, to finish because there was an infection present and he wanted me to do a round of antibiotics before finishing the procedure. I was pleased that he was patient, honest and cool about it. I got my prescription and was on my way. Got home and I was still numb, zero pain, zero bleeding, no swelling at all. About 4 hours after the procedure I was no longer feeling numbness but I was waiting for the pain & soreness to kick in but it didn't yay! I was eating & drinking like normal, it was great! Later in the evening Dr. Massarat went above and beyond by calling me to check on me and see how I was doing, this is why he is so awesome, he really cares about his patients. I was so ecstatic to find such an amazing dentist for this procedure because I know not everyone is fortunate enough to have a pleasant experience with a root canal. If you are in the unfortunate position to need a root canal at least you can be fortunate enough to have it be a good experience if you choose him. I highly recommend Dr. Massarat to anyone in need of a root canal. read more

Bait and switch? I was referred here for root canal work. Did my research on him and made the appointment with Dr. Massarat. Called day prior to appointment to confirm and verified that indeed my appt. was with HIM. Well when I got there it was not him but another DDS. She was great but that is not the person I researched prior to making the appointment. I need to know that the so called medical professional is board certified with no pending lawsuits, etc. You don't make appointments to have your hair done by a certain stylist and then sit in the chair and have a complete unknown person work on you. You don't go to a Chinese restaurant expecting to be served Chinese food only to find out that everyone else gets to eat Chinese but you have to eat hamburgers. I consider this totally unprofessional and disrespectful to me as a patient. Needless to say, I will not be returning. read more
