I had highhhhhhh expectation because this is a five star review restaurant on Yelp. I ordered a bunch of nigiri and Oshi. I have to say that the fish is very fresh, so I give this restaurant a star off because of their rice. It is TOO HARD. A good sushi rice for me should be not too hard and not too soft. It should also be more flavour, but not take away from the flavour of the fish itself. The rice plays a pivotal role in the texture. I hope they can make the rice not that hard (also too much rice for each nigiri). read more

Another cool sushi restaurant on Davie, Tom sushi.Honestly, there are so many options on Davie street for food and I somehow 70% or the time pick sushi. So I ordered on the phone for pickup. Got the maki combo, loin-cheese katsu and chicken yakisoba and received a 10% pick up discount including miso soup on the house. Amazing deal. Food was good, however, it got cold in our 10 minutes walk home. Bummer. But I can't wait for all restaurants to re-open once this corona virus is cleared, so I can sit in the restaurant and enjoy hot cheesey katsu and yakisoba. Good food, friendly and very welcoming staff. At this time, I am all for supporting local businesses and I encourage everyone locally to also support these restaurant and shops. Me and my friend went to TOM Sushi today. it was our first time there. We got the Dynamite Roll, it was really good. And the price was great to. We will definitely be going there again. The waitress was friendly and so were the cooks. We thanked them for the good meal and they waved at us as we left. I would refer this restaurant to anyone who is looking for a nice sushi place. and the size of the sushi is large but they will make smaller size rolls if you ask them too. The website States authentic Japanese food here but that's not what we discovered. The Miso soup was just broth that lacked any substance. The grilled black cod appetizer was okay but overpriced for the tiny size not enough for two or more people even. And the sushi rolls were mediocre at best not even close to authentic here. Service was lackluster no remedial actions taken for our pointing out these discrepancies. We don't care to return here again. Check my photo for the tiny Cod appetizer that was $13! Quality service and quality ingredients always go a long way in making a dining experience great. I am here exclusively during lunch hours, during which time the staff are incredible. Attentive servers, craftsman behind the display cases and the food gets to your table quickly. Clean plating, protein at the correct temperature and nothing is over sauced. This is a new establishment. I remember when it was Sushi Bella, and then Hatzu, and now this. Me and my partner were pleasantly surprised by the food they have here. It's super delicious, high-quality, and has decent pricing. The Fire Volcano roll is by far my favorite. They use fresh ingredients and the signature rolls they offer are exquisite; each roll has it's own sauce I believe. Staff are super friendly too. I've been waiting for a good and "Affordable" sushi spot with quality fish and fun environment for a very long time in Vancouver and I finally think this is it. I've been here 3 times now (twice in groups, once as a couple) and have enjoyed the experience each and everytime. The fish they serve here are from the same suppliers you would get at much more expensive restaurants around town, and the chef himself is very passionate about his craft, leading to a great product. Instead of going to Minami, Sushi Jin, or Maumi and spending at least a $100 a person, come to Tom Sushi and get out of there stuffed for less than half of that. (once you start adding in Sake... the bill can obviously start getting away from you) Ultimately, this will most like be my go-to quick and casual sushi spot in Downtown Vancouver moving forward. Tom Sushi is a new restaurant that recently opened on Vancouver's Davie Street. This actually used to be another Japanese restaurant called Bistro Hatzu which I also liked but it looks like it moved to a new location closer to Main Street. I'm so glad a new sushi joint opened up here though! There are several other options around the area but so far, none have really satisfied my taste. The interior was bright, welcoming, and looked spacious. Their menu was also very well designed and was laid out nicely with lots of options to choose from without feeling like there was too much going on. I came here with my coworkers during lunch. Since all three of us were hungry, we decided to order a party tray to share. We opted for the Tom Special Roll Tray ($59.95). This included 6 different signature rolls: Red Dynamite Roll, Smoked Dynamite Roll, Snow Dragon Roll, Black Dragon Roll, Salmonholic Roll, and Rainbow Roll. Everything was presented well and was delicious! My top three were the Rainbow Roll, Salmonholic Roll, and Smoked Dynamite Roll. The fish was fresh and the rice to filling ratio was just right. My only complaint with this particular selection is that the Red Dynamite and Smoked Dynamite rolls were too similar to be placed within the same tray. I wish they had replaced one of them with another one of their specialty rolls to provide more contrast. The service was friendly and attentive; our tea cups were constantly refilled. Also, you can get free miso soup and a 10% discount if you are a hospital employee. You just need to show your ID badge to avail of this. I will definitely be coming back to try the other items on their menu -- they have bluefin tuna specials, nigiri, box sushi, as well as cooked food like katsu, udon, and cold soba noodles! My girlfriend and I came in at around 4 PM on Labour Day. We had looked up sushi restaurants to go to around the city were open at this time and came across this gem! I was skeptical before stepping in because the restaurant was empty, but given the time I figured it made sense. The waitress and sushi chefs greeted us politely and filled us in on the recommendations of the day. We took them up on the bluefin and hamachi sashimi, and added in the salmon hako sushi as well. The sashimi was AMAZING and for good value. We got 6 pieces of bluefin: 2 lean and 4 fatty, each pair from different parts of the tuna. The fattier tuna were rich, tender, and had the PERFECT fish taste without the stinky fish smell/taste, if you know what I mean. Similarly, we ordered a full plate of hamachi that was just as rich and flavorful as the bluefin! The salmon hako sushi tasted just as expected, and to top it off, the sushi chefs were kind enough to give us a couple complimentary samples of some type of jack fish sushi. We had a wonderful experience here. The restaurant is small and they don't take reservations but definitely worth the wait. The details on the dishes and just the tableware itself is absolutely aesthetically pleasing. The staff are really nice and they keep coming by to see what you need. The food is fantastic. Best Nabeyaki udon we've ever had. Usually you get a tempura prawn, a few pieces of chicken. The Nabeyaki udon here came with two prawn temperas, a head on prawn, mussels, little bits of octopus. The soup was awesome. We also ordered a tempura plate and the batter is very crisp but light. It's definitely a hit. The sushi was fresh and wonderful. The pressed sushi is so good.
