Service was very good. The fish quality was very good. Some of the sushi preparations were creative and very tasty. Other preparations were a bit salty and hurt the taste of the fish (e.g. the eel). The rice was ok. I don't think it stood out. The place was cute. I feel that the servers would have wished that I order more, which bothered me a bit. Not Michelin star for me yet...

My wife and I have been hearing good things about them and wanted to give it another try after three years. Upon entering we were greeted and seated right away. The menu has expanded since the last time we went, they even have a liquor menu now with a great sake collection. They even have some off menu selections. We ordered hamachi crudo, blue fin tasting set, chirashi set, Hokkaido maki and bluefin maki. After ordering the chef gave a complementary daikon in dashi, which was pretty good. Soon after, the food we ordered came out at a good pace. I found the fish pretty good, usually I find the hamachi and otoro a little bit too oily but it was good this time. 10/10 would come again.

This place is such a gem if you want some authentic Japanese food experience. The restaurant is tiny but cozy. It fits about six tables with an open kitchen and some bar seats, just like in Japan. It was a birthday celebration and we went with the chef's tasting menu. The food portion was really generous. Everything was made with authentic flavor and simplicity. The sashimis are fresh, and the oysters were nicely seasoned. The first appetite with the chilled Daikon had a very powerful taste of vinegar and spiciness. It was almost intentionally strong to open up your pallet. The blue fin Nagasaki tasting was very impressive. It brought me back to Japan, and that how fresh it tastes. The chawanmushi was so nice and tender, filled with unagi and scallops. I think I would go back for just this dish. The chef selection of sushi had a variety of sushi rolls that filled with surprises. We finished off with some dessert, and their matcha ice cream took me back to Japan again. It was the right level of sweetness and creaminess. The waitresses are very knowledgeable and friendly. Our tea cups were never empty, and we never had to call anyone. When we needed something. They are always around. What I really appreciate was how observant they all are. This is definitely one of my favorite Japanese restaurants from now on, and I recommend everyone to give it a try!

Truly an incredible experience! Food was out of this world and the setting intimate and warm. Some of the best bites and you can taste the quality in every taste. Would go again and recommend to anyone!

Ooooh. I am still dreaming about our meal here. We came for my birthday a few weeks ago and it did not disappoint. Memorable were the Crudo, Blue Fin Tuna Tasting platter and the House Panna Cotta. 100000% recommend and still think about these dishes weeks later. The Snow crab roll seemed suggested on here and it was fine but I realize if you're craving just raw fish I would skip. We made a reservation a few weeks in advance. Service was efficient and helpful! The space is super intimate.

A great sushi spot for special occasions. It's a small, bright restaurant that's usually busy. Service is great and very attentive; my cup of green tea never seemed to drop below half empty. I've had the omakase lunch special twice now. Full of fantastic flavours, but not cheap at ~$70 or overly filling. The portion size is for a light lunch. Definitely more of a special occasion or family-is-visiting lunch spot than a place to drop in regularly. The food: We each had an omakase platter that comes with 5 plates. - Spinach Ohitashi: a lovely savoury broth with greens and umami flavour. - Chawanmushi: This was a real highlight for me. The egg custard came with bits of smoked fish in it. A fun dish. - 5 pieces of nigiri: a good selection of different fish. Each piece was distinct and well put together - 3 pieces of sashimi: all fresh and flavourful - 2 pieces of the house roll: I can't recall too much about it now, but it was good! You might not leave Sushi Hil overly full after the lunch special, but you'll almost certainly want to come back.

Sushi Hil is a no frills sushi joint with the freshest of fish and amazing foie gras. It's a small restaurant so reservations are a must. Parking can be challenging but well worth it. The selection isn't the widest of variety but it is the highest of quality. It is my favorite Japanese restaurant in Vancouver and a must visit every time I'm in town. We always order the Chirashi bowl with Bluefin Tuna, A5 Wagyu, King Salmon, Ikura, Caviar and Foie Gras. Every bite is magical...even down to the soft and chewy sushi rice. I love ordering the seared Foie Gras as it is cooked to perfection and bursting with flavors. The Snow Crab Roll is soft and delicious. I also recommend the Seared Nigiri set as the textures are amazing. Service is excellent and they also have a great selection of sake. Highly recommend Sushi Hil!

I had heard so many great things about Sushi Hil, I was excited to try it. Between being awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand and winning Bronze for Best Causal Japanese from Vancouver Magazine, I had pretty high expectations. I made lunch reservations, and arrived right on time. The space is small. We were seated at the counter so we could watch the sushi chefs at work. We noticed the menu on the website doesn't actually match up to the menus we were given. We ended up ordering the the following from the menu: - Albacore Tuna Tataki - Good. Simple. Clean. Nicely presented. - Hotate Butteryaki - Good. Delicate. Another nice dish. - Snow Crab Roll - Good. A little different. Well executed. - King BC Roll - Good. Skin was still crispy, which is really nice. - Oyster Motoyaki - Good. Been ages since I had one, so it was a nice reintroduction Service was polite, professional and attentive. Overall a nice lunch. Overall good food, but whether it signified a Bib Gourmand or winning Bronze, I'm not so sure. It was definitely above average, and prices reflected it. I'm not certain it was so good that I would be wanting to come back though. I would give 3.5 stars.

Sushi Hil offers a cozy, intimate dining experience with space for around 10-15 seats. The ambiance is warm and inviting, and service was attentive and friendly. The menu offers a variety of sushi and other dishes, though we opted for à la carte. The hot sake was perfect for a chilly night and it was smooth and easy on the palate. The seafood m was fresh and good quality. However, some of the seasoning felt repetitive, which could have been due to the dishes we chose. While still delicious, a few of the flavour profiles started to blend together. Sushi Hil leans on the higher price point. While it's great for a date night or special occasion, with that price point and quality, I think there are strong alternatives in the area.

A friend came from out of town so we decided to visit Sushi Hil for a unique dining experience. When we were inside the cozy restaurant we were warmly greeted by staff and shown to our seats at the counter of the sushi bar which allowed us to see all action of dishes being assembled all night long. They don't offer Omakase anymore but it was easy to assemble something similar with all the options on their menu. We started off with the Hotate Butteryaki and ended with the Oshi. The dozen fresh oysters surprised us, their Chirashi Royale was a decadent feast of "all butter" yummy high-quality ingredients. The Sashimi Moriawase was lovely - of note was the jellyfish but it showcased a lot of fresh quality fish. We were blown away by the Nagasaki Blue Fin Tasting - the quality of the Chutoro was almost the Otoro level and the Otoro of course was angelic. Do not end with the Negitoro at the end of this tasting plate finish it with the Otoro. This Miso Soup was also awesome - large chunks of tofu and a good amount of seaweed. Solid for a rainy night. We were the last table to leave but they didn't rush us out - we saw all the hard work they did to keep the sushi bar and the general restaurant clean. A lot of love and pride goes into this restaurant. It was a great experience - thanks Sushi Hil!

Been wanting to try this restaurant for a long time now and was finally able to try it today. It's a nice and small place great for just chatting. Servers were nice. I enjoyed the majority of the food here. Their ingredients are really fresh and they use "real" wasabi here & deliciously thin ginger (unlimited refills). The only dish I personally didn't enjoy at all was the Hotate Butteryaki. The butter flavour wasn't pronounced enough and mushroom flavour too strong. I absolutely recommend their seasonal oysters (kusshi) & their Chirashi Royale (enjoyed every bite). Will come back just for these 2 dishes alone. A good place to splurge a little.

    Royal chirashi
    Aggie E.

Not sure it was worth the price.. We got the royal chirashi which included bluefin tuna, king salmon, Wagyu beef, and foie gras. It came with miso soup and a salad. The pieces in the chirashi were small and all mixed together. I couldn't really tell what I was eating in any given bite. I would've preferred the rice to be warm with the cold sashimi cuts but it was cold. It was good but not sure if it's worth 100 bucks pre tax and tip? What do you think??

The place is amazing. We chose the signature dishes and loved everything we ordered. Fresh and yummy. The price is very reasonable compared to Seattle. We will come back for sure.

The food was good but not of value. Their lunch set was a good introductory to what they offer. I enjoyed the food for its flavours and presentation but I thought that it was a bit overpriced. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful, fresh and definitely elevated, but it was $50 for 10pcs of sushi, 2 appetizer sized samples of their appetizer or entree dishes, and miso soup (which we did not get and didn't realize till much later in the day). If you're wanting an upscale experience (and portion) of good quality food or wanting to impress other parties, then this is a nice spot. For regular eats, it's a bit too luxurious to be a casual thing in my opinion. The ambiance is nice and calm. They have a patio, which has a meh view overlooking the harbor, but beware of a breezy day. It will catch a bit of a wind tunnel. They have heaters and blankets but the heaters don't really reach unless you're sitting next to it.
