So I enlisted my kind husband to be my secondary mirror to go buy a pair of NEW (egad, the last time I got new glasses in MA I had to return them for a refund...they were a mess making me a mess too). And saw Jeffrey. His kindness, his questions asking me about issues no one--no doctor, no optician had ever asked about. YIKES. BEST optician in 7 countries I've lived in. Though to be fair, I was younger and without glasses often in some of those countries. So thanks Jeffrey. I trust you so much that I'm writing this waiting for my new glasses knowing you'll be there for me and others.

Jeff--I believe that's the name of the business owner and I were talking about our cats and then he suddenly paused...before saying something extremely racist. To be clear, I am white. I believe the hesitation was to consider if it was "safe" to make the joke that he did. The shop is not a large space and I did not want to lose my temper and escalate anything, so I pretended to laugh and told him I needed my relatives' approval before buying anything. Well. I have a lot of racist relatives. They would defend this man. I won't. I will not give him money, theirs, mine, or anyone else's. It's sad to hear a local business owner and operator, otherwise welcoming, kind and polite, talk like that because it undoes his kindness--he's only willing to show it to people who look like he does. It's disturbing because this is not the screaming, overt racism of domestic terrorists and our government of 2026. it's insidious. It's literally in our mom and pop next door local businesses. I'm not going to repeat what he said. Doubtless, he has many excuses for it. I would, sadly, for the sake of his cats, who sound delightful, warn my friends of every color not to give this man an income. There was and is no excuse on this planet for what he said. Please consider that if you shop here, you are supporting his racism.

This may not be for everybody. If all you want is to update your prescription, you could go to Costco and have a tech run a few tests in 15 minutes. My initial visit at Northampton Vision Specialists took over two hours - it was the real deal. (They even checked my color vision!) Do NOT confuse this business with Eye Physicians of Northampton, where I used to go, until they forgot what customer service was. Northampton Vision Specialists is an established business, with real eye doctors and skilled and friendly personnel. It is also situated in a converted old house, which really adds some charm you don't often seen at a medical facility. Take care of your eyeballs - at Northampton Vision Specialists.

I have anxiety with health professionals since it's always about money or they just tend to not listen. I went to another place about two years ago and they blamed the medication I was on for my bad eye sight and belchertown eye care immediately went through every OTHER reason why I could be lacking. They called me the day before reminding me of my appointment. I got in almost a week 1/2 out which Is amazing considering it takes months at other places. The lady at the front desk was very attentive, told me that it would be $110 for the exam BUT insurance will cover an amount of it I would just have it sent out. (she gave me a letter and all to send it out) As well as she measured where my eyes and ears sit so its comfortable. When I paid I left a deposit for my glasses (I was given option) and she showed the price break down. Sadly, I do not remember her name but the lady who did my eye exam was TOP tier, she worked for surgeons before and was checking for EVERYTHING when I say everything I mean everything. She was very educated and would ask if I wanted to see what the pictures and devices were doing. They have brand new technology so she explained what each one does now and any questions were answered immediately. PLEASE go they're amazing !

I recently got a pair of sunglasses to use with my contacts, these glasses have removable wind protection in them, I used the wind protection for the first time this past weekend skiing, they work incredibly, I was able to ski all day without having my eyes water!
