My appointment was for 6:30 PM and it got me in the chair right at 6:30 PM Jason and his assistant was absolutely awesome, my hair was washed dried cleaned up and trimmed up. The price was good the service was great I will be back in 30 days. There are a lot of places in the Newport Mesa area that will cut your hair, there's not very many good places that will treat you right they make you feel good. I had a curly cut by Katie and she DELIVEREDT. I am obsessed with the shape that this cut gives my hair and the bangs are exactly what I wanted. I've had curly bangs before and I was scared to get them again, but I just love the way she did them so much that I see myself continuing to get my bangs trimmed to keep them :) She taught me how to style my hair like this myself at home as well, showing me the products she used, how much of each product, and how to apply them. I had the WORST curly cut with Katie. I specifically said I wanted to conserve as much length as possible. I was fine with layers to add volume, but the way she CHOPPED the first layer was awful. It was originally right below my chest, and now it's up to my chin. Also, the first layer is significantly shorter than my face-framing pieces--she didn't even touch those! The result is a very choppy, unblended look. It literally looks like an A-line cut at the top. To make matters worse, she didn't blend the last layer, which is at my lower back-- making my hair look like a jellyfish, which is exactly what I told her I didn't want. The second layer is almost non-existent... I paid so much money for this cut, and I'm incredibly disappointed with the outcome. We discussed it, and she apologized, which I truly appreciated, but I would have expected her to offer a fix or at least a partial refund. read more

So when it comes to hair I am the pickiest, most paranoid person in the world with getting any kind of change to it or trusting someone enough to come near it lol. I hadn't gotten my hair cut in about 7 years because my first experience was tragic so I never trusted hair salons after that as most of us girls could probably relate. With that being said, I am so so happy I came across this salon - specifically DUVAL (I found him on Instagram). I stocked his page and really liked the versatility and the different showcase of talents; He showed that he was good with all kinds of styles, cuts, and coloring so that was enough to make me feel comfortable in knowing that he knew what he was doing before I went in. I arrived and was greeted by his super sweet assistant, she offered me water and got me all set for Duval before he came out - He was super friendly and had a very calm aura about him which I definitely needed considering I was more nervous then ever!! I explained to him my trauma with my hair and told him I didn't exactly know what I wanted highlight wise but I knew I wanted layers and some long face frame bangs that would look good in a middle part AND also if I pulled all to one side. I told him i was nervous about getting highlights because I didn't want to look washed out because of my fair skin && he was very confident & excited with his response and told me he knew exactly what to do with my hair which made me more excited than nervous, so I appreciated it for sure. The pictures show the beautiful and amazing work he did on my hair, I've literally never felt more confident in my appearance!! I wanted a change so bad but was seriously terrified of getting in any chair and trusting someone else with it but I'm so glad I did. I wanted someone who would tell me what I wanted since I didn't really know what I wanted and for someone to make me feel excited about it happening and that's exactly what Duval did! His peers are so friendly and casual as well and it really is just such a good vibe all around. You really feel like you're in good hands & surrounded with professionals. Side note: He also gave me a discount cause he ended up doing a full set of highlights instead of a partial which is what I originally booked, so I thought that it was really nice he didn't try to up-charge me (: All in all if I could give this salon more stars I would, it really was the perfect experience with the most perfect outcome. Sad to say, but the person I went to for 6 years was just not cutting my hair as good anymore. It has been uneven the last couple visits. So luckily, I was referred to Duval by a neighbor. I have super long hair, and want a very deep V cut. I like the length, but need to get some weight off. When my pony tail hurts, that's when I know it's time to go in. This place was hard to find, no street signs, but I found it. I've never been to a stylist who has an assistant! I had two people blow drying my hair, which cut the time in half. I was impressed at how precise he was and I felt like I was in good hands. He didn't make me stand up while cutting my hair, like most people do. I don't know if stylists know how scared we are when we come in for the first time; you can literally ruin a person's life if you screw up their hair! I'm a guy and I've been going to duval for around 2 years. The problem I've had with previous barbers is that they will cut your hair differently every time, and also I had a hard time finding someone that wouldn't cut my hair so it looks like I'm in the marines. After Duval cut my hair the first time I never went to anyone else.
