Much better than other burrito bar options in the area. Chipotle in milford absolutely blows now. Pancheros in shelton has the consistency and texture of cat food. The meats here aren't amazingly flavored but it beats the hell out if most places this style. The only better mexican is the la carreta cart on the med school campus. I work in the New Haven area and frequently visit Tomatillo. My experience has been outstanding. I eat at the restaurant at least twice a week. They offer a variety of quality authentic mexican food. My favorite dish is the burrito bowl. Everytime I order the burrito I ask for their extra corn salsita, the spicy delightful green tomatillo sauce.It is the best mexican food in the new haven area thats for sure. I give two thumbs up. Don't bother going to one of the chain taco joints if you have Tomatillos as an option. I order online through Grubhub and I can assure you, best taco's you're going to get in New Haven. They use quality ingredients and they know how to roll a burrito (which is an art, believe it or not). Really fast delivery. I usually have my food 20 minutes after placing my order online. They also have really good customer service. They forgot to add guacamole to my tacos. When I called to complain, they INSTANTLY offered to redeliver fresh tacos and sincerely apologized for the inconvinience. If that aint good customer service, I dont know what is. Just try it. I live one block from chipotle, but always walk half a mile to eat here instead. There are tons of food options (shrimp and fish plus more toppings than their competitors) and everything is fresh. They also have great churros and drinks (smoothies and authentic mexican sodas). Many of my friends at school from Southern California love it, and when they approve of tex-mex food that's saying something. It's not exactly the pinnacle of hispanic culinary excellence, but 5 stars because it's the best $8 burrito in the area you can get. read more

I go every Friday and never really got great service. I went today and it was the most awful experience I've ever had at a restaurant. They had 3 workers all working on a take out order and the line inside kept building up. I actually waited in line for 20 minutes and I was in front of the line. The worker that helped me was very arrogant. Seemed like I was bothering simply because he had to wait on me. so i got the basic soft taco i always get chicken rice and beans with some tomato toppings. Out of the blue he beans are 50 cents extra? REALLY!? Totally ridiculous! so i got the taco without beans and told him i would never step foot in there again. Food is very salty too. I would suggest Moe's anytime. You can get all the extras you want without getting charged for an extra bean! Prices are way too high for half the portion size it used too be. You have ro study the menu or you get charged extra for toppinga. The guy tries to squeeze it in carging yiu extra if youre not familiar with their ordering process The chicken burrito i ate had chicken similiar to chicken that sits at a chienese buffet all day long. Ordered 2 vegetable a la carte tacos through Grubhub and received 2 flour tortillas with toppings but no vegetable filling (keeping in mind the vegetable option costs the same as meat fillings). I called the restaurant to straighten out the issue, and the guy I spoke to spent the next 5 minutes arguing with me that since I didn't specify "which" vegetables (and there is no option to do this on Grubhub), the order was correct. This makes no sense -- essentially, if someone ordered the "vegetable a la carte taco" option with no toppings, all they'd get is a tortilla, and this would be "correct." He finally offered to refund me, though I still haven't received it. Tl;dr, the food is garbage if you're a vegetarian and the staff is rude AF. Avoid. read more

Was told it was on the way and that they left 15 minutes ago. After another 30 minutes I had to call back to find out that they hadn't made it yet and the order was still in the printer because they don't check the online orders when its busy. Probably the worst delivery experience i've ever had. Three of us at work ordered here for lunch and it was a huge mistake. We were on the phone with these people NINETEEN minutes. My manager finally goes outside after about 20 minutes of this and waves the delivery guy down who is not at the right address. Now I'm hoping that this food is amazing to make up for the fact we waited over an hour for it and i spent almost 20minutes ordering it. Nope. Every single order is wrong. No sour cream, beans when we asked for none, and the wrong salsa! On top of it all the food was cold, but that was expected sense it sat in a car for so long.
