Absolutely ridiculous! Came here w some old NyC friends. Thinking we would get true New Haven style pizza! What we got is half beers, all foam (because they cant figure out how to pour and serve it). We got over priced, underdone pizza. $150 for 8 draft beers, a small and large pepperoni pizza. Im not sure how they wanna call themselves or even relate themselves to New Haven pizzerias. Clearly something was wrong w the dough. And the oven. Our pizza looked not bad. But I couldn't have been more disappointed in all the experience. I would not go here again. Try Tony Saccos for a Neapolitan pizza if you must. I can go on and on here as i also make my own pies at home. I know its not easy. But this place is garbage! Tomatoes APIZZA is the best pizza in the Detroit Metro Area - hands down. When I taste pizza from other places, my taste buds go on auto pilot comparing it to the pizza from this restaurant. A bit on the pricey end, but honestly, the flavor is so good, it's almost justified bc other places don't come close. Ambiance is okay. It's functional. Nothing amazing about the ambiance, but it has a rather large dining room where it's a nice place to host a family dinner or a larger gathering/party/shower, etc. They have a nice buffet during weekday lunch hours. You won't be disappointed bc you can try a bunch of pizzas with various toppings and make a salad from the salad bar as well! The large pizza is VERY large and cut in an artistic style, not your typical triangular slices. We've served this pizza at various birthday parties and it's always a hit with guests. Service could be a bit more personable, but it kind of depends who you get at the desk. Pizza is fantastic. I'd say it's in the top three places I've tried nationwide. I had heard so many good things about this place and was excited to finally try it. I got a Naples Sampler and a 1/2 crab and 1/2 white with mushrooms. The original in the Naples sampler was probably my favorite and the second runner up was the one with fresh mozzarella. However overall It was just average. We have a couple wood fired pizza places close to my home and I feel like they had more flavor than this. Also was disappointed with the crab pizza. While toppings were plentiful I would have preferred less crab and it be actual crab not KRAB. I think they need to spell It with the K or make sure people know it's fake crab. The edges were too tough to eat and slightly burned in spots (I know: some people like this). The restaurant was uncomfortably chilly. Service was good. I would like to try their crab pizza to see if that is good, since that is not something you could find at other places. Great place for a true New Haven pie! Crust was perfectly crispy and chewy, slightly charred just how it should be. A large pizza has 16 slices... so good I could eat it all myself. The best part is, you don't feel sluggish or gross after eating all that pizza, that's what you get from fresh dough and quality ingredients. Ordered a small Naples sampler with pepperoni, small green pizza, added mushrooms, onions, mixed peppers (green and red), basil and anchovies on one side only and a Naples salad too. Order would be ready in 20 minutes. Two small pizzas and a salad costs $58.30. The steam from the pizza boxes was hot enough I could feel it coming out of the vent holes while carrying it out to the car. The green pizza was topped immensely with toppings, nice coverage for sure. The pizza did get a bit soggy and flimsy on the 8 minute ride. The pizza was ok. Ambiance is pretty cool and the pizza is delicious. I have wanted to try appiza for awhile and I think this does a serviceable job of introducing it to Michigan. I understand the cut style is a thing, but would have just preferred slices. Tough call on a star rating as the pizza is delicious but extremely expensive. That being said it fed me, my wife and two small (3 &1) boys with a couple leftover pieces so it's cheap restaurant food in that regard. Still, for thin cheese pizza, 35 bucks is a lot. I was worried about this because most of the time when a pizza is sitting in a hot box for a while, it really hurts the crust. That was NOT the case this time. Well today was the day. I called to order and the service was impeccable. When our order arrived, early, it was steaming hot and tasted like the tomatoes I remembered. We changed our order to the Naples sampler pizza and it was amazing. I can't tell you which one was best, because they were all amazing. I've been going to tomatoes since I worked at BobSaks Oldsmobile over 20 years ago. It has always been my favorite pizza in Michigan and one of the best I've had in the nation, including NYC. I live almost two hours away now but I recently grabbed a Togo order on my way back from the airport. The pizza is still top notch but a large two topping with a cheese bread was 50$. I'm not sure when this happened but it was the first time I walked out feeling zero excitement for my pizza. I love the food, but I won't be back.
