I have been using Tommy's Auto Repair for many, many years. The mechanics are thorough and honest; they take their lead from Paul, the manager. The prices are normal for the area. I take care of my car and have an oil change every 3,500 miles or so. I always go to Tommy's for it. The last time I went, they told me I was due for a transmission flush; I said I would wait until I brought the car in for its annual inspection in about 3 weeks. A few days later I had a problem with my car (it decelerated all by itself), so I took it to the local dealership because the car is still under warranty. The dealership service manager told me that the crackcase was overfilled with oil (he told me I had 9 quarts, but that I should have only 4.5 quarts) and because of the overfilling my car needed a lot of work. He said that the overfilled oil had gotten into the transmission, the cooling and other systems and had contaminated all the various fluids. He said if I didn't do the work now, I would do major damage to the car. Of course, I authorized the work. The work the dealership did, among other things, was change the oil (which had been changed a few days before), flush the transmission and flush the radiator. For that and other maintenance work I paid $600. I brought the service information to Paul to review it. He basically told me that the dealership had deceived me, that there was no way I could have had 9 quarts of oil, that the oil could not have contaminated any of the other fluids, that all the work could have been done another time (or not at all), and that it all could have been done cheaper. He said if this ever happened again, I should call him from the dealership and he'd come down and help me. In the meantime, he said he would call the dealership on my behalf and complain to them. About a week and a half later Paul called me. He had spoken to the dealership and although they wouldn't refund any of my payment, they gave him a $200 credit (he sometimes needs parts from them); he said he would give it to me. The next week I went to Tommy's for the annual inspection; at that time Paul gave me a check for $200. I told him to keep half of it because he had earned it. Also, he didn't have to tell me about the credit at all - he could have just kept it for himself. He absolutely refused to split the money with me, gave me a "high-five" and went out of the office. Everyone looks for a good, thorough, honest mechanic, and I found one at Tommy's Auto Repair. I heartily recommend them. read more

After getting my estimate for the damage from my 1st mechanic I was headed home and I saw "repair" from the corner of my eye as I was driving down McDonald Avenue and I felt inclined to pull over just to get another opinion. Jerry attended to my concern immediately in the utmost professional way. I explained the entire situation and how much my estimate was. He carefully reviewed all the damage and quoted me for almost HALF what my first mechanic quoted me! I rarely meet such honest, transparent and ethical people so I felt compelled to share my experience. Thanks to his honesty and integrity I saved more than $1,000. The service itself was utterly professional as well. I left the car on Saturday and was told it would be ready by Thursday. On Wednesday I get a call telling me that my car is ready. It was raining that day and the following day so it was very convenient that the job was completed ahead of time ... talk about under-promising and over-delivering!!! Finding a reputable Auto Repair Service is almost as hard as finding a good Primary Care Physician. The key word here is 'trust'. I have used Tommy's Auto Repair on McDonald Avenue multiple times - well because I trust Paul and his staff. Recently I brought my Elantra in with a rather unique problem. A very large rodent had selected my car as his final resting place. Needless to say, the car stunk and smelled like the inner depths of hell. Getting rid of a rat that has been there for at least two weeks is no small task. I'll spare you the details but it was a large order to get my car back in shape so I could drive it once again. I left it with Paul who worked miracles in cleaning this up this mess. It's difficult to find a service provider the caliber of Tommy's Auto Repair. Everyone is friendly, professional & trustworthy from the receptionist to the mechanics to the car washers & most of all to the managers & owners.. I recently got my car detailed & once again, Paul exceeded my expectations... & believe me, I have extremely high expectations!!! My black 2008 looks like the day I bought it!! I love Tommy's Service Center. Sir V. is right that at times things have been a little more expensive, (and OK the girl is a little ditsy-but nice), then if I took it someplace else but in this day and age when a lot of repair shops are quick to rip you off I feel confident that they are honest and always do excellent work. I highly recommend them. Another reason I love them is they know me by name. It seems that most of their customers they make it a point to always say hello, give a smile, and know most of their customers either by name or face. This is a dieing aspect of customer service in America, specially in the melting pot of NYC where its not always customary to be polite or treat your customer (specially frequent customers) with respect and courtesy. read more

I've been a customer of Tommy's Auto Repair for 2 years ,and never been happier spending money for car maintenance .I have never had a problem with waiting to long for the service and never had a problem with any of the worked that was performed on the car . I must say when they take the car in they always tell me the time it will take if I want to wait fine or offer me a ride to my home until it's done. The boss Paul is a Pro and his staff couldn't be nicer starting from the lady who greets you when you walk into the office.Sorry to say I have forgotten her name ,but she's makes the whole process perfect . Dont settle for rough estimates its always way over what they quote you. They have no shame on pilling on the charges. They also use bulk oil and ask you to change oil every 5k ($150 per oil change) instead of manufacturer recommended 10k, these guys think they know better. In addition to all mentioned, they charge dealer rates, so were is the upside? Will take my car to dealer from now on at least they give a loaner before they lube u up.-) read more

I recently had a few different electrical problems with my 5 series BMW. I also had a check engine light on and was in need of nys inspection. They diagnosed it the first day ordered the oem parts and repaired it the second. Was a great experience both Paul and Jerry were very helpful and explained thoroughly what had to be done . It was a great experience I used to go to The dealer and have my car for days. Besides the price was reasonable and fair. Less than half than what the dealer would charge. Once again Tommy's Auto repair has come through for our family. We heard a humming sound as I drove past 30 miles an hour and it was going on for months. My cousin came for a ride and he said you better fix it and he said it can be the wheel bearings. This is exactly what Tommy diagnosed it. They fixed the bearings and the car drives eerily quiet. I have always felt confident bringing my 12 year old (2003) car to Tommy and Paul. Don't know about the future but so far, his mechanics continue to do excellent work on my car.. Not long ago, one of his talented mechanics replaced my two leaking struts. The car now rides very well and I could not be happier. They repair my car in a good time frame trying to always accommodate my schedule and offer discounts on the car washes. I would give 0 stars if possible. My insurance needed tommy to take pictures of my car. He kept pushing me off for 2 weeks, everyday he says we're closing early and cannot take photos. I get there and he tells me to wash my cars before when they are clean so he can make some quick money. Bottom line guy is a fu**** ***hole. Avoid going here. read more
