I love Tommy's Burger Stop's burgers! Top notch. One of the best burger joints in Anchorage. But. Few seats and long waits means that I only eat here when I have time and good weather so I can hang out on the uncomfortable patio chairs. Customer service is hit or miss. I have never been talked to disrespectfully by any staff member there but I have seen a few curt interactions that made the little tiny room stiffen up a bit. Fantastic little of a burger joint. No frills, just tasty food. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu including po boys, salads, and desserts. Very friendly staff. And even though it's super small, it's got this endearing unique kinda college hang-out vibe. But over the years the quality at Tommy's has diminished. Tommy's has been a favorite of mine for several years now. However, I would just like to compliment them on their new service and how well they've adapted to AK's new regulations. First of all the phone didn't even finish ringing once before my call was answered. The young lady on the phone was courteous, efficient, and very easy to understand. They let you wait in your car, and post your name in the window when your order is ready which is very convenient. I was told my order would be done in 15 minutes and it was done before that. We ate here two nights in a row. We order Togo each night. When your order is ready you can find your name on the whiteboard. It took about 35mins for our food to get ready. I think because it was a busy night. They have indoor and outdoor dining which is good because there are only 4 tables indoors and it's really small. The first night I had the market garden salad. Everything was fresh. The second night I had a bacon cheeseburger and let me tell you this burger was so good and juicy. It was very well seasoned. All fries come with Cajun seasoning. I came back recently to grab dinner on the way home a couple of days ago. Tommy's Burger Stop has been a fixture in the Spenard area since 2002 and is easily my favorite burger place in town. In spite of the questionable surroundings, don't let that deter you from coming down here to get your burger fix. The seating area is very small, but cozy with Star Wars memorabilia, movie posters of celebrities, and various novelty items adorned on the walls. The employees here are always awesome with customer service, both in person and on the phone. I usually place my order to go due to the small dining area, but during the summer, they have a sizable patio outside to have lunch on sunny days. I mentioned earlier about the bad area, but the entire patio is walled off to keep loiterers from the street wandering in to sit down. This time around, I tried the Spenard Burger which is basically a bacon cheeseburger with a fried egg.....no worries about cholesterol here since I eat this kind of burger once in a blue moon. As always, the burger was fantastic cooked to a perfect medium on a toasted potato bun with thick slices of bacon and the fried egg cooked over-medium to keep from being runny. The meat patties they use are lean 100%USDA grade and imported from Australia. The wait can take awhile especially when they are busy, but the best way to avoid this is to call ahead and it will be hot and ready once you arrive 20-25 minutes after placing your order. Other burgers worth trying out when you stop in include the R.L.E. Hello Burger (a massive burger with two patties, bacon, grilled mushrooms, onions, American cheese, and jalapenos), the Aloha Burger (teriyaki sauce, pineapple, and grilled onions), the Stella Bleu Burger (what I usually order with an extra patty when I come down here which has blue cheese crumbles and mozzarella....just awesome), and the Sweet Charlotte (grilled mushrooms, Haas avocado, and Jarlsberg Swiss cheese). They also offer Po' Boys, Philly Cheesesteaks, and Salads, but the main stars of this show are the burgers hands down. Definitely worth braving a trip to this part of town in spite of the occasional drunken fights and public drama from the bus stop just outside the dining area. Lots of options to pick from, I went with the Aloha Burger, it was very good. Fries were well seasoned. A few friends and family are on Burger kicks - so I've been to a few. Only reason this place loses a star is also one of the reasons some will come here. It is Small. Not a lot of seating, and for some - difficult to find. But the Food and Service - is great. So many choices but a simple menu. You can customize almost everything, and watch it prepared right in front of you. Staff is great, happy to explain and don't laugh to much at what is obviously a common sight of folks not knowing how to get inside to order. Prices are very reasonable, especially for Anchorage and especially considering the sheer SIZE of everything I've tried here. Don't worry - you WILL miss some of your options when you order. You can try something new the next time. This is not the place to go if you're afraid of eating something that your doctor would frown at. This is indeed "the real deal" as far as burgers go. Mine was definitely the better of the 2. My husband loves halibut but just thought it was ok. Really cute place with a super small indoors and a beautiful patio. Staff was friendly. No wait at 12:30 p.m. on a Saturday so that was nice. The wait for the food took a bit but figured that was a good thing, made to order. We got the Stella Bleu burger with added bacon, large fries (held the Cajun seasoning), and a peanut butter shake. For whatever reason, the food fell flat. The burger looked nothing like some of the great pictures posted. No sear on the patty, not juicy, the cheese patty seemed over cooked, and the bun was dry.
