We both ordered the Hungry Man's breakfast. I had bacon, eggs hashbrowns, biscuits and gravy and i ordered Pecan waffle as well. Our food came, and I usually take a photo before I eat at a place I haven't and when it looks nicely presented. But I was hungry, forgot and also because it was a diner. As a Texan, I tried the biscuits and gravy first. They Did Not Disappoint. 2 Big delicious biscuits bathing in a bowl of gravy. The biscuit were warm, soft, fluffy on the inside, thin layer of crisp on the outside. The gravy was definitely from scratch. It was so so creamy, with just the right spice, I saw bits of meat chunks as well. My thought after one bite was, This is How I should Eat my Biscuits and Gravy from now on. The WAFFLES was next, it too, would the New standard of all waffles sounds be. It was the perfect golden brown with the perfect recipe for a crisp exterior and a waffles fluffy interior of sweetness, served with hot syrup. After my wife tried a bit of the waffle she had also mentioned on how good they were. The bacon was perfectly cooked. And my eggs were beautifully over easy. After reading the online reviews, I decided to try the Southside Grill out. It was frankly a bit disappointing. I expected a more inspiring breakfast menu, but it was very ordinary. I ordered steak and eggs. The quantity was abundant, but the flavor was just normal. It was like going to the village Inn or another breakfast spot. I was disappointed in the wait staff. They barely had time for me. The greeting was very perfunctory, and they didn't look me in the eye. I had to ask for my check and a box for my leftovers. Even paying for my meal was uncomfortable. My credit card was tossed back on the counter and the woman walked away right after she handed me the credit card slip with a throwaway Have a nice day comment. Being on night shift makes breakfast at breakfast time a bit of a struggle at times, so we needed somewhere open at 7 so my wife could have her breakfast before work and I could have a 'late night' snack. Southside fit the bill as many spots don't open until 8 am! This is clearly a spot with a very heavy rotation of regulars. Lots of quirky back and forth, jokes, and general conversation between the staff and customers walking in. Felt like the staff knew just about everybody and, for some, exactly what they wanted for breakfast. Our waitress was terse and came off a little cold, really the only knock for the spot and it's definitely not something that is going to keep us from coming back. It's a local diner, you're probably not going for the bright and bubbly personalities anyway... you're going for a caloric explosion of eggs, meats, and lots of butter. Speaking of the caloric explosion, the servings are hefty and coincide nicely with the prices. My omelet was great! I chose the bacon, cheese, and avocado and I was not disappointed. The omelet was not overcooked, had that nice butteriness to it that you get when the omelet is taken off the heat just at the right moment. The homefries were solid as well, not dry, crunchy edges, and paired excellently with a splash of Cholula(one of a few options for hot sauce they have at each table!).
