In my humble opinion it's the best of the classic burger joints in town akin to Arctic Roadrunner and The Lucky Wishbone. Professional service, fantastic food, and happy people! My personal favorite is the Stella Blue Burger, it's just one hell of a burger. You can't go wrong stopping by here for a quick bite. I recommend ordering to pick up during the busy summer months unless you don't mind waiting but just know it's a small place so of course it can get packed quick! read more

They are wannabes in my opinion, simply because it took more than 30 mins for me to get my burger and fries after I ordered, and there was no where to sit while I was waiting. I went to this little gem for the first time Saturday. I'd been having serious burger lust for a couple of weeks, and boy, did it ever get satisfied! The atmosphere is definitely hole-in-the-wall, but that is, oddly, part of its charm. Unlike the crowds at most places that are packed to the rafters, the people at Tommy's were cheerful and friendly, and we struck up a nice conversation with another patron while we waited for our food. I've seen a bit of complaining about the prices, and while the burgers aren't cheap, they are delicious, and a pretty good illustration, IMO, of that old saying: you get what you pay for. And the fries are wonderful, hot, crispy but not dry, and seasoned to perfection. I almost always dump salt on my fries, but these didn't need a thing beyond the house seasoning. The only thing that could have made it better would be having my burger a bit on the rare side.. I don't know if they cook to order there, it didn't even occur to me to ask. When I moved to Anchorage I was told that Tommy's had the best burger in town. I wasn't lied to. They have a killer burger. I tend to get the bacon cheeseburger and it really is spectacular. They have great milk shakes, too. There's just enough room inside for 4 small groups to sit down. Great food and a fun atmosphere. read more

Great selection of burgers, fresly made, well prepared just about anyway you like, lots of options. Great onion rings and fries! And a decent chocolate shake. I zero idea what anyone sees in this place. Now let me tell you I gave this place two chances to change my mind and they still failed. My parents went and loved it so I tagged along the next time and apparently I'm bad luck because they didn't like it again either. Then we came one more time just to make sure and it was horrible! The first time I had the po-boy and what a disaster that was! There was so much bread. I could see through the tomato that was on it (ewww). The only good thing was the chicken. It was super dry because they don't put anything but the little mustard on it. I also had their milkshakes which was a melted mess. You pay $4.50 for a small cup of a milkshake. It was bad. So the second time I came which was today, I got the chicken nuggets hoping they would be made like the chicken I had before was. I was SO wrong! They are dino chicken nuggets you buy at COSTCO! What the hell! On top of that they fried them so bad they crunched! Again their milkshake was a melted mess, maybe a little less melted this time. My parents had the hamburger which they are suppose to be known for. I have zero idea why that is. It was a prepackaged burger. No burger that's homemade is that perfectly round and flat. It was chewy and hard. Nothing here is homemade! Even their ice cream is just something I can buy at Fred Meyer! (I watched her pull it out!) Stopped by here because of all the reviews. Not sure if I'm just used to the burgers in huge cities like houston and Boston but the burgers were ok. Yes they were made to order and super fresh but very greasy and the fries weren't so great. It was good but not blow my sox off amazing. Good stuff in general. When you get burgers from non-fast food establishments that are smaller restaurants, they tend to have very similar burgers/food in general. I tried a traditional bacon cheeseburger but i added an egg on top. It tasted as it would else where ya know? Fries are fries and drinks are drink. You could say that an average restaurant should get 3 stars but the service was good, the food came fast and the little restaurant was neat. All around good stuff but I'll have to try a more specialty burger to maybe validate my score. read more

This is probably one of the best burger places in Anchorage. I was totally delighted in finding this place in Spenard. I love this place, the food is excellent and I gave it a five star rating because honestly deserves it. The place is a little quirky, but it is a fun place to eat at, and great atmosphere, and they go out of your way to make you feel comfortable, Personally I think they make the best handcrafted burgers in Anchorage and the portions are large. You will not go away hungry. And as they say Keep Spenard Weird... Even though I am from Anchorage originally, and now live in Seward, I am looking forward to another trip home and back to Tommy's for a great burger. read more

If you're like me and have no self control when it comes to food-- this place is probably bad for you. The fries are good. The burgers are incredible. The shakes are divine. It can get a little crowded, so I would definitely see if you can call ahead your order (I'm not sure if they do that or not). If you're planning on eating there, you may have to fight someone for a seat. There aren't many, and the place is usually packed. But I shared my table with another person who was there by themselves and had a pretty great conversation. Well worth the stop. read more

Greetings from SLC, UT! Went to Anchorage to visit my Alaskan friend and we were told to check this place out. Glad we did! Great food, and there are seats outside when the weather is nice. It's a burger place, therefore, order a damn burger! If you don't, then I have every right to tell you, "I told you so!" Don't get me wrong, the other items on the menu are awesome but you don't go to a pizza place to eat bread sticks. That being said, you don't go to a burger joint to order a po' boy. Fantastic burgers. Best in Anchorage, no comparison In my opinion, the burger composition is very similar to Five Guys in texture and composition: overall, more moist and less crisp than ShakeShack. My only real complaint about Tommy's lies in their french fries. They are passable--tasty, crisp, etc.--but doused in salt and paprika. While there's nothing wrong with some spices, it's often a bit too much. Feels overdone, detracting from the innate flavour you might otherwise delve into. read more

I searched for this place because I had read that it had the best burger in Alaska. I guess I am going to have to disagree with the majority of the other raters because it definitely is not the best burger in Alaska. I'm not sure what is but this isn't. It was an ok burger. It appeared to be a premade frozen patty that was overcooked. They didn't even ask if how I wanted it which is likely because the burger was so thin that there is only cooked and raw with no in between. The bun was ok but the pictures I see on here did not look anything like the store bought bun I received. It was good, average, nothing spectacular. The fries were pretty darn good though. Nicely spiced and well cooked. Not soggy or burnt to a crisp. I didn't get the onion rings but I saw some of them and they looked pretty awesome. I was disappointed in my burger not because it wasn't good, but because I was expecting a homemade burger that would knock my socks off. Sorry Tommy, my socks are still on. read more
