Tommys is great! We previously lived down the street from the Chaska location and once they moved we decided it was time to check out the Shakopee one! This place is a great spot for families or large groups- with a lot of seating inside and out! We love their malts, but sometimes I wish they had even a smaller of size- a half is HUGE! Definitely shareable! I got the Graham Cracker, Caramel & Cinnamon- SO good! (I do wish there was chunks or graham lol). The onion rings are always a staple, beer battered and soo tasty! The portions are also really big for only being around $7? Again, a great place for groups to share. Great food and great service. This place is surrounded by parks and is likely very busy during the summer months. We went in Late March and we were able to get in and seated right away. They have a "Lucy" burger our whole table enjoyed. The decor had a lot of pictures of old school cars. They also had an extensive list of malt flavors. Stopped here for lunch after playing at the park with our son. I love how it's close to the splash pad and sandventure park, so you could get some yummy ice cream for a treat! We've been a big fan of Tommy's back when they had a location in Burnsville. We also have been to the Chaska location. They all have been great! I love the burgers and amazing malts. Food took a long time despite it not being busy. It was lukewarm warm when it got to us - I think it had probably been sitting under a lamp for awhile before it was brought out. My burger was $16.49 and was reminiscent of a frozen patty. We didn't have silverware and had to ask more than once for it. All in all I wouldn't go back. Price was too high for subpar service and could get similar food elsewhere at a fast food restaurant for half the price. read more

I went on a Friday night and the place was packed, but it still only took 5 minute to get seated. The restaurant is like a classic dinner, glass ice cream cups and frosted mugs and all! Yes you herd me right, the frosted mug is for the 1919 root beer! Yum! Just get it.. Indoor and outdoor seating. Restaurant was clean. I don't know how you could experience everything this restaurant has to offer with one visit! They bring the ice cream out to you first, generous portions. They had so many different flavors! If you eat at this restaurant and say to yourself, it's ok, we have desert at home....your off your rocker! ..really you have fallen and can't get up. Stop cheating your self on life and get the full experience. Also, you should order a 1919 root beer. We are finally to the food ...my wife got the burger, it looked so good I had to try it, good tasting classic burger! I got the grilled cheese brisket sandwich, it was so good I forgot where I was. I so badly wanted to give this place 5 stars after the impeccable service, but unfortunately the burger I had almost make me sick afterwards. It was really dry and I only ate half of it. This is the second time I've come to the new location and I've been disappointed both times. They've done something different to their food and it does not taste the same. Chicken fingers were extremely overdone and my son said he felt like he was just biting into a bunch of crunch with no chicken inside. The fries are tasteless with no seasoning again just different from the last location. I was dismissed by the waitress and equally dismissed with no resolution from the owner when I brought up my concerns. She just said I'm sorry we don't want you to be disappointed, but didn't offer a resolution. Unfortunately I do not believe we will be back. Where to start.... What drew us in were the prices and malts on the menu. However, what made us decide not to return was the service and the bathrooms. The burgers were decent but like a few other burger places I won't mention; the burger prices seem cheap but every condiment or topping was an added charge. The service started out fine, I was nicely directed to their bathroom while the others in my party were shown to a table. It it kind of fell short after that. The restrooms were singular. One for the males, one for the females. The female bathroom was horrible and not clean. I had to wipe down the seat as it was dirty and the floor had lots of TP single sheets on it. It didn't smell bad but the look and experience was very off putting. Once I sat down at the table, the server was prompt, and a little helpful. But there are things I would've suggested if I worked there or was a regular. 'Servers should always ask " do you want your malt now, during or after your meal?" We weren't asked and of course we got them right away. We were finished without malts by the time the food came. When the server who brought our food passed our food around, there was a single fry sitting on the tray. She said 'oh I bet you want that little guy' and dumped the tray that has been serving food to how many other people and has had lots of other food, fingers, and things touch it. I was not pleased. Removed that single fry right away. Regardless that was not sanitary or welcomed. There was no silverware at the table so for those of us who like to cut our burgers in half before eating had to go up to the server to ask for a knife. I waited however he never came back to the table it eve looked in our tables direction. I did notice him flirting with another wait-staff. I could see where his priorities were. When we were finished we chatted a little bit but the whole time our table was just filled with glasses and baskets and plates. Not once did any server come over to offer to clear things away. It was another turn off. This place is clearly a mom and pop place with an old timey feel and sadly only kids in charge. Probably won't be coming back. Even if I was in the area and really craving a malt. I'd still go somewhere else or just go without. read more

Came down to Tommy's for the Tater Tot Juicy Lucy. The dining area was very clean and well maintained. They do a great job of social distancing in this COVID time. The outdoor dining in a decent size. They are located on a busy corner so there is a decent amount of traffic noise. The staff were very professional and pleasant. Shana rocks! My family discovered this restaurant on our way back to the twin cities. The hostess was very nice. The waitress Shana was so accommodating with my son's food allergies. She actually brought the package of hamburger buns so I could read the ingredients. The have good burgers, chicken sandwich and French fries and sweet potato fries. Shana asked questions to make sure my son was safe to eat there. It is very rare that we get to eat in restaurant that doesn't have seafood. We drove over from Prior Lake in construction season. Worth the drive though. I had the portobello mushroom burger. Very good. I was hoping for a big single slice of mushroom stacked neatly but the mushroom was three smaller pieces of deep fried mushroom arranged like pickles would be. Not a deal killer. Just harder to keep together. My wife raved about the burgers and fries. The add-ons raise the price considerably but total cost is about what most places charge. There were countless restaurants here before Tommy's moved in, but it's obvious why this one has thrived for years. Brett, the owner, purposefully designed the space for family interaction. No TVs blaring at you, no sports fans who might've had a "few too many," just a hometown atmosphere with delicious food that promotes delicious conversation. I've had everything on the menu and I can honestly say that nothing is bad--the patties are never frozen and there's plenty of combinations that can satisfy any mood you're in. In the mood for something light? Get the Honey Glazed Grilled Cheese with Sweet Potato Fries. Want a hearty stick-to-your-bones kind of meal? Get the Tommy's Lucy (yes melted cheesey goodness in between two patties!) with Onion Rings. Or my favorite--the mushroom and Swiss WITH an extra slice of cheese over the mushrooms (that last part is critical.) The restaurant was nice and clean which we enjoyed. We each ordered a burger and that is when they place fell apart. I got my burger and it looked very good. Nice fresh toppings. I could tell the tomatoes and onions were fresh. I was excited. Then I picked it up and took a bite. The patty is a pre made frozen party which they didn't season at all and the bun instantly fell apart. After two bites or so I gave up. We should have told the waiter but we just wanted to pay and leave and not make it a big deal. The wait staff was super friendly. If you are within 20 minutes of this place it is a MUST go. Seriously, if you are looking for some delicious food and ice cream for a reasonable price this is the place to go. Tommy's has that perfect small town malt shop feel. I ordered the cowboy, which is a cheeseburger with onion rings and barbecue sauce and my girlfriend ordered the honey glazed grilled cheese. She said the grilled cheese was different, but good. My cheeseburger was perfect! The onion rings were crunchy and well cooked, not soggy like you would sometimes expect on a cheeseburger. The burger was juicy and cooked to perfection. Now the best part, dessert. We came here excited to try their malts because friends of ours told us they were good, but that all changed when we saw the menu and they had a deep fried brownie sundae. We hesitantly decided to get that instead of malts( I mean cmon it's called Tommys malt shop, it's hard to not get malts). I got the juicy Lucy style burger and it was 10x's better than greasy low energy burger I got at Matts Bar (home of the original juicy Lucy w American cheese :((). It's a few dollars more but extremely high quality everything. I had cheddar and pepper jack inside my juicy Lucy. It was the tallest 1/2 pound burger I've ever ordered. Great bun!! Great service!!
