I definitely had higher expectations for this place. I ordered the Philly Cheese Steak with Cheddar and Sweet Peppers & Onions. The peppers & onions were very good, but I wish they put more on. The steak tasted a bit dry and the cheddar was not enough. Overall it wasn't bad, but I wouldn't order that again. The prices are right! Only $6.50 for a 12 inch not too shabby. I find reasons to go to Jim Thorpe. Seriously. This place is a diamond in the ruff. Fresh home made rolls. Great staff. Awesome quality meats n cheeses. What I love are the American and Italian hoagies. The salad dressing on the Italian has nip to it. Just enough spice. At times I notice my lips are a little numb but it never burns. AWESOME. Probably more like a 3.5, but I like to round up. I stopped in here two different times for lunch when I was in the area for business. The first time I got a cheesesteak. The second time I got an Italian hoagie. Prices are great. Lunch specials for both my sandwiches were about $6 for an 8 inch sandwich, fries, soda. The sandwiches were pretty good. Not the best I've had, but I didn't walk out regretting anything. Service is good, clean, and ingredients were all fresh. There are a lot of food options here from sandwiches to pizza. It's a solid lunch location and I'd definitely recommend it if you're in the area. FYI-This is across the river from the "downtown" touristy area, but it's not far. I think what you think of this place will certainly depend on where you are from and what your experience is with this kind of food. It isn't like JT PA is the hotbed of activity when it comes to this and the choices are slim in the area. I ordered a basic sub turkey swiss lettuce mayo mustard the bread was fresh, soft which I liked. Prices were more than fair. Good thing I had cash which I never usually do because they dont do cards. I went to the place because I needed something to pack in my backpack for a long bike ride break. There is not much in the way of a deli in JT so for that I think it is a good choice. There are several 'off menu' items you can ask for if they aren't too busy, just talk to the girl at the counter. They also sell beer, coolers, energy drinks and other beverages as well as lottery tickets. Normally it's not too busy except at supper time and right after the High School lets out. This place is just awesome. It's been a long time since I had a sub as good as the ones they have. I live nearby but never really ventured over to this side of Jim Thorpe. I walked up to the counter and was just overwhelmed by how large their menu is. I wouldn't have had the slightest clue what to get if not for the very nice girl at the counter. She suggested the Rango sub which is a crazy sub with either buffalo chicken or cheesesteak and mozzarella sticks, popcorn chicken and french fries on it. I was sold and my husband is a huge foodie so his eyes got enormous. We got a large one of each plus a large American for my kid cousin (who is extremely picky), and two fountain sodas for a little more than $20. The bread tasted homemade, they all had a mountain of meat and toppings on it, the mozzarella stick breading was fantastic and the fries were those delicious extra crispy ones only certain restaurants have. My cousin hates fries but she loved these! We all agreed the Buffalo chicken with ranch and blue cheese was the best. None of us finished the other half of the twelve inch subs and they were fantastic cold for dinner. As for the actual appearance and service. The staff was all very friendly, the inside was very clean and two booths plus some bar space to sit out. The fountain soda has free refills but there's not a large selection so if you want anything else there are bottled beverages to choose from as well. They also sell quite a few different types of beer for take out only. They accept cash only but have an ATM inside. I'll be eating here as often as humanly possible now. My only concern is whether I should try something different next time or order the same thing. read more
