Steak and shrimp hibachi, and sushi
    Michelle M.

There aren't many good ethnic restaurants in St Joseph, but this is definitely one! The service is always great and it is quiet and chill. I LOVE the shrimp and steak hibachi. That rice is so umptious, I cannot get enough of it (don't get me wrong, the portions are generous, it is just SO GOOD). My husband gets sushi and is always pleased. We have also tried tempura, it was also good. Highly recommend!!

I really enjoyed it!!! I kept it pretty simple but that's because they had all of my favorite things so I ordered those. Great service and they had a huge menu. Very good prices

Always delicious- we always sit at the sushi bar to enjoy fresh sashimi and sushi! We love the black pepper tuna appetizer - sashimi yellowtail and salmon - sushi eel - and one of their signature sushi rolls!

i read some good reviews on this place. that was my first mistake - believing those positive comments. we got seated in a rather dirty booth. waited. waited. waited. finally, someone came over. i was not sure if she was a server, or just passing by. she brought us waters eight minutes later. immediately left before we could order something with alcohol, which would surely dull the sting of what was yet to come. someone else came to the table and took our drink orders. i should have ordered two drinks, as i already knew the service was going to prove iffy, at best. we waited for a long enough period for me to have started planting some seedling grapes, to craft my own wine. we quickly ordered two appetizers and entrées when we received our wine and beer. no glass for the beer. you drink it like you're in a saloon - straight outta the bottle. extended wait for appetizers, we placed bets on how long it would take to see the aforementioned food. appetizers arrived! no dining plates though. entrées arrived less than ten minutes later, as did the included dinner salads and soup. i did not recall ordering a hunk of fat (see accompanying yuck picture). plus, as an added insult, the food wasn't even tasty. no flavor, extremely bland. no spice. server came back twice - once to point to a water glass so it could be refilled; and to take some half eaten salads/soups away. the next time to leave the check. the worst part was no fortune cookies! now how am i supposed to know how to say 'umbrella' in mandarin, or what my lucky numbers are? the humanity. total bill for two drinks, two appetizers, two entrees and two stomachaches - $65.21.

Pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety of sushi. The chef got our orders out in a timely fashion the presentation and taste was delicious. Along with good quality, service, and presentation was the value. The only tricky part is they close for a break between lunch and supper. We are definitely coming back when shopping in St. Joe.

My husband and I have been here with our friends a couple times and we were pleased both times! The service was very personal & friendly. The chefs are definitely seasoned in the industry. Unlike other Omakasa places , chefs always try to keep the integrity of the fish without introducing too many bold flavors to them, this place introduced us to a lot of vibrant unique flavors which made the experience so unforgettable. All the fish and UNI were incredibly fresh. Every dish was 5/5 The stand out dish for us was Tai truffle, its a MUST TRY, it's one of the best sashimi we've ever had. I absolutely love the concepts of their menu, which is another reason why they are different from other Omakase. You can choose the dishes that you want instead of chef's choice. I highly recommend this place if you're in a mood for very unique sushi experience!

The staff are incredible--super knowledgeable, nice, conversational, and friendly. What more could you ask for? The food is FANTASTIC. I don't know how they categorize their style of cuisine but I'd call it "Japanese fusion" for lack of a better, more specific take. It's largely (or wholly?) Japanese, but I've been to Japan many times and am a huge fan of Japanese cuisine of all varieties, and I couldn't pinpoint some of the dishes, but this is not a criticism, only an explanation as to why I am challenged with categorizing the place. All small plates, we had excellent cocktails and a variety of (recommended) small plates, all of which were surprising and excellent. Standout dishes: well, all of them, but the Corn & Crab Okonomiyaki was delicious--and different; the skewers with Jidori Chicken Oyster, Barham Farm Chicken Heart, and Barham Farm Chicken Tsukune were delectable; and the local Enoki Mushroom Tempura--also incredible and should have ordered a second. The Fried Chicken Sando was good but I was surprised it wasn't as flavorful as it looked...or I hoped. Still, not complaining!

The soft serve was delicious, so smooth, flavorful and definitely had a unique flavor with the custard/japanese brown sugar and mango. They change up the flavors and toppings which makes it super unique and you HAVE to try the trash candy. I don't know who called it that, but I will eat trash all day everyday if it tastes like this. Beautiful ambiance with a very traditional Japanese restaurant set up. Super kind and attentive service. I would love to come back one day for the food!

Every menu item feels very intentional and well executed. The offerings on the cocktail menu are fabulous. Both the ube and lychee cocktails are delicious. My partner and his mom both had a sake flight, each offering was delicious and different in offering. If you like sake you will definitely find one you like with this flight! They both ended up liking a yuzu sake and split a bottle, the finish was sweet, crisp and perfect for the Kansas City heat. I started with an espresso martini, the coffee flavor was strong and sweet and I was a fan! During our meal I opted for a martini corner dirty vodka martini and as a dirty martini enthusiast I was very pleased and will continue to recommend! I finished off with a matcha martini that was sweet, creamy and smooth and paired perfectly with our tempura banana! Speaking of food, the star of the show, we genuinely had only good bites here as usual. We sat at the bar on the corner, it was a nice seat that captured the energy of the restaurant, busy but somehow tranquil. Our bartender was great as well as all the staff behind the bar and host stand! I especially appreciate the patience of our bartender, we came and ordered many rounds of small plates, (you should do the same!) and he was nothing but enthusiastic and helpful. To start we had some furikake fries and shishito peppers. There are a lot of exciting and multilayed dishes on the menu, I think these two humble sides though really pack a punch and show that everything on the menu brings it's A game. From there the food ordering escalated as everyone in my group was over the top excited. The stand outs for me were, the dry aged salmon nigiri, the toro hand roll, the crab apple roll and my group was especially blown away by the scallops and are still talking about them a week later! Noka is in my opinion, really bringing a new level of dining to Kansas City. I'm not over stating it to say it is one of a kind in this city and everyone should try to get in.

We were excited to try the new sushi and seafood options from the menu, as well as retrying some of our old favorites. When we walked in, we noticed there are a lot more tables, making the space a bit louder than our precious visits. That's great, though, that the place is packed! We also were a bit disappointed with the flavors of the food and drinks. Our first visit was amazing a few years ago, and this visit, even the things we remembered loving were a bit worse. The sushi and sashimi were okay, but also seemed less flavorful than expected. While we were excited to come back, the visit left us thinking that Noka may not be on our places to visit for a bit.
