The in house experience with live cooking on the grill is exciting, but my carry out orders have been horrible. I have done carry out twice with proteins that included shrimp, steak, scallops and chicken. Both carry out orders seafood was way over cooked to the point the seafood was rubbery, not even edible, and the steak was tough. They need to give the same care with carrot as they do with dining in. I would not recommend anyone pay those prices for carry out when the food is way subpar read more

We both had the hibachi fillet. It came with soup, salad, rice, vegetables, and the meat. Everything was prepared very well. Our chef was very entertaining and did a great job making sure the food was just the way we wanted it. She even accommodated my request for teriyaki rather than soy sauce on my steak. The restaurant itself lacked nothing. It's not their fault that one of us is a type two diabetic, and the rice or the soy sauce or something sent his blood glucose through the roof! If you are a type two diabetic, this is probably not a good choice for your meal. The chicken teriyaki had too much of a soy sauce flavor and there is a language barrier or deception happening. Our waitress could not understand our questions or explain the menu. This led to an extra charge when the bill came. They charge like $5 per roll extra just to deep fry the sushi. We asked about this and were told it was fine when we ordered. I love the soup and salad (the ginger dressing is GREAT), the hibachi rice, veggies, and chicken/shrimp/steak/salmon (the meats I've tried). The sushi is pretty good, too. I really wasn't expecting much from a Hibachi joint in St. Joe, especially after reading some of these reviews. As far as the wait time, I don't feel we waited unusually long. With a number of tables occupied (plus a completely full table across the way), we got beers pretty much immediately, and the grillmeister was up and running after about 30 min or so. Our chef was pretty entertaining, but more so the food was soooo good. I'm fairly picky about my Chinese-American food (yes I realize this is a "Japanese" restaurant but what we had was pretty much stir-fry). I guess I'm spoiled as far as Chinese-American food goes, but I was diggin' it. I had the filet mignon and scallops. Dee-lish. I ordered from the special rolls menu, and found the temperature, texture, taste and presentation to be more than adequate, exceeding my expectation. I believe I'll return and try some other items, as I felt comfortable here, and the prices were in line with the selections. Four months later.. Still like the food a lot. Sure it's not what you'd get living on the west coast, but it does the trick. If I had only one suggestion, I'd say avoid the men's room. No ventilation, and there's always that one guy.. This place charged an 18% gratuity for a family of four. It was not displayed anywhere that this was added to your order other than at a none functional bar on a very small sticky note. I am more than happy to pay a very generous gratuity if it is warranted. Good service always deserves good gratuity. When we asked about the added charge, they didn't care. I explained that gratuity was added by the customer upon a good job done but this was certainly not the case and we did not feel that our sever warranted that amount. We let the "manager" know that we wouldn't be back and they couldn't have cared less. Our server was unreliable. We didn't get any refills of our drinks and we had to get our own silverware. Overall, the food was subpar and server and management was deplorable. Try going to KC for anything Hibachi related. I do not recommend the this restaurant 100%. read more

I just ate here the other night and it was fantastic. We came here as a farewell and good luck dinner for my husband's brother as he's moving to Alabama. At first, we were supposed to go to Red Lobster but they couldn't accomodate our group of 8, said we were going to have to sit at separate tables so we moved on. This place was suggested though I was a little hesitant when we pulled in the parking lot and saw only 4 other cars. It didn't bode well in my opinion. When we came in, you could definitely tell they served sushi here from the slight seafood aroma. The ambience was about what you'd expect of an Asian steakhouse with comfortable seating and lighting. They had seating for regular tables and for their hibachi grills which we chose. We started off a little on the wrong foot with our waitress when we told her that I had a shrimp allergy and she didn't really understand what we were saying but I knew the cook would have to understand when he came out to cook on the grill. The cook was both hilarious and very skilled and made it fun for the two kids in our party when he started twirling his knives and utensils. This was the first time I had ever seen or heard of Sake being used in fried rice and it was just lovely. It was the best fried rice i've had in a while. I ordered the steak and chicken for protein and had him make mine medium rare. He cooked it perfectly. Everything was just downright delicious and I left there with a huge food baby. My husband and I have been coming here for years. The last time we were here, there was an automatic 20% gratuity on the bill (for 2 people.) We didn't argue and just paid it, but we didn't sit at the hibachi grill and got the bare minimum of service - so it didn't make sense. Another table had the same question, and told the cashier they would gladly pay a tip they thought was appropriate - but it was not legal for the restaurant to make a 20% gratuity mandatory. They were told to leave and not come back. Now, it's worth it to note that this is the only hibachi grill in the area, unless you want to drive an hour or more. So we did return, but it took a few months. This last time, the 20% gratuity was not there - so we could elect to leave what we thought was fit. (Yay.) However, they have "punch cards" next to the register - they clearly state "Buy 10 dinners, get 1 free" and only show 3 things as exceptions. We paid for 2 dinners and got 1 punch. When we asked why, the cashier stated, "Only one punch per table." Which is not explained or posted anywhere. They seem more and more underhanded each time. The food is phenomenal and seriously some of the best yum yum sauce I've ever had and normally I'm not a fan. Both their soups are so full of flavor for being so simple. Sushi was top notch, very fresh. The hibachi portions are a very generous size and they even put the fried rice in one of those old school Asian take out boxes! Only giving this place 2 stars because I don't want it to go out of business because it's the only option we have for this type of food in St. Joseph and the food isn't terrible. However, the service is TERRIBLE. Every time we go in there it takes us forever to be acknowledged and even get our drink orders. One time we waited 39 minutes for them to take our drink order, when I tried to order our food at the same time they told me to wait and we waited ANOTHER 30 minutes. That was just to order. Definitely do not go if you're hungry during dinner time. When they brought our drinks out they were delivered by one of the children working there. At the end of the night we checked our bill (for 2 of us) and they had already added gratuity to our bill - this has happened at least 3 times. A few friends had gone here twice before and invited us to come out as a group to try it. There were seven total and we sat at one of the hibachi grills. This place smells like old dirty water and salt when you walk in, and it's really warm and humid feeling. Other than that it was dead, like one other group and maybe two tables of couples. The owner's young daughter was sitting at the front bar with her shoes off watching cartoons... But I kept an open mind. Everyone ordered items to be cooked on the grill, and foolishly I ordered the sunshine roll, and the sweet potato roll. The sunshine was supposed to have eel sauce but it looked like they used their special house sauce instead, it was fried but still tasted room temp inside which was gross. The sweet potato roll was interesting, like sweet potato fries in a roll. My boyfriend got the steak and chicken and it came with a salad and miso soup. I tried both the soup and salad and they were eh. The salad came out with a weird salty applesauce in place of dressing and it was so odd. The soup is hard to screw up but it was just alright. The fried rice was decent, the steak and chicken was average. Another thing that's funny is the outside of the building looks SO cheap and run down, but inside it's upscale and decorated nicely. I have to say I glad I gave this place another chance. Although the bento box is double the price you usually pay, I can't say it was or is not worth it because I wasn't going to find out.
