This was my first time dining here after a friend highly recommended their sushi and hibachi. The restaurant has a very small, low-key, and intimate feel to it, which ended up being perfect for us since we had my friend's child with us. It felt cozy and welcoming rather than loud and hectic. Even though the space is small, there was a good mix of people -- quite a few larger groups dining together as well as some couples on dates. ​I started with the House Salad with ginger dressing, and also tried the Squid Salad. Unfortunately, the Squid Salad wasn't for me; it had a bit of an odd taste and didn't seem as fresh as the other items. However, the sushi more than made up for it! I ordered the OMG Roll, plus another roll that I can't quite remember the name of -- it was served on top of foil and was delicious. Both sushi rolls were absolutely amazing, fresh, and flavorful! My friend went with the Chicken Teriyaki Entree; the chicken tasted okay, though the sushi was definitely the star of the show. ​What really stood out was the service. The staff members were incredibly kind and patient. My friend's child was acting up and whining quite a bit, but the servers were very understanding and made us feel comfortable despite the fuss. Wow I was really impressed with the sushi here!! For this area, it was actually really good. The sushi tasted fresh and the flavors were great . Portions were nice too. The menu is huge and even has udon and other non sushi options. I also would check out the chef special. The one we had was amazing! We also got the seaweed salad which I forgot to take a photo of but that portion is huge. Would definitely be enough as an app for four people. Really yummy as well. To be honest, I think it's typical mediocre Midwestern sushi. Nothing was awful, nothing was great. I sat at the sushi bar, the staff did not acknowledge me. I ordered the chirashi bowl, which was served on a plate, and was basically just a sashimi combo with a big lump of rice with barely any seasoning on it. The quality of the fish was mediocre, and all the fish was cold - not served at room temperature as traditional sushi is served. It came with the soup or salad, I opted for salad, and the dressing was Ranch... Which just feels so American and not authentically Japanese at all. I was hoping for the ginger dressing. I just don't think the food here is inspired or unique, there are definitely better sushi places in our metro. read more

Crab Sticks are not Sashimi. This place had many good reviews and I noticed it in the shopping center while I was there on another errand. I ordered the Sashimi lunch, which was to consist of eight pieces selected by the chef. I like to order a combination and let the staff choose. Sometimes there is a pleasant surprise. Not today. Two crab sticks were 1/4 of my Sashimi lunch. Either charge another couple bucks and make it all Sashimi, or charge a dollar less and make it six pieces. read more

I had the sashimi and the pieces were so thin there was hardly anything to them. Especially considering how much they charge for it. I don't mind spending a lot of money for quality food and I understand that supplies are inflated now but this was ridiculous. Also had miso soup and a dinner salad. They both tasted like bad water. Masabi is only 3.5 miles from our house so very convenient. They have better quality of sashimi (carving if raw fish) than all but one in the KC Northland. We always get hamachi sashimi (yellow tail tuna), sake sashimi (raw salmon), maguro sashimi (red tuna) plus edamame (steamed beans) and 1-2 maki rolls (favorites are spider roll or rainbow roll but also sometimes get a negihamichi roll or TC roll). Depending on the weather and mood, we also occasionally get miso soup or seaweed salad. Good selection of Asian beers and good cold dry sake. Very efficient and nice staff. Masabi is a family owned business. They're very nice, all the food has been spectacular when I everyone there and they are very quick on their service. Their serving sizes are not the largest, but not the smallest either. I have never had a problem getting in or had to wait and there's never a problem with parking. My only ask of them would be to have a larger eel sushi dragon roll. read more

We stopped here for dinner on a Friday night and we're surprised how little people there were in the restaurant. All of the workers were very friendly and gave us quick service - almost too quick. My wife and I felt a little rushed as the waiter quickly jumped on any dishes we finished with. It sounds weird to give 4/5 stars because the waiter was TOO fast with clearing the table, but that is what it has come to. Hope our next visit feels a bit more relaxed. Setting was small and somewhat intimate. It is a fairly small restaurant, but seats a decent amount of people. The food was on point and very delicious! We had the Miso Soup, Cali Roll, Philadelphia Roll and BMW Roll. All were excellent! We live in California, but would come here again next time we visit! read more
