Wanted really good Asian food while recuperating from surgery in the Bronx. The BX is somewhat of a food desert, in terms of quality, and depending where you are... We ordered a few dishes, including soup, which I very much needed. I was happy that the miso soup was not salty. We ordered the steak and shrimp hibachi, which was fantastic. Had a nice lunch here today. I was the first one in the door upon opening, and I appreciate their unlocking the doors on time 'cuz it's cold outside. Bathroom was my first visit. Nice and clean private set up. Once seated at a booth, the waitress wasted no time and got my drink order. The miso soup was a little weak for my taste but I still liked it. The sushi was great though... the yellowtail scallion roll has that really nice flavor I love, the salmon Avocado was fresh and thru gave nice portions of fish. I was waiting for the pandemic to end so I could sit inside and give this place a proper review, but here we are 9 months later and we still can't dine in so why wait anymore. I could always update later. Literally just this year I tried sushi for the first time - not here. I've always heard nice things about this place, including the sushi, so once I decided I was going to like sushi, it only became natural that I finally come here. Yes, they have plenty of non-sushi items on the menu as well, but sushi was always the main event here. I've been ordering the same things every time (I'm still a sushi amateur) - the sushi deluxe (10 pieces of sushi & a California roll) and the sushi regular (8 pieces of sushi & 1 tuna roll) - both offer the same assortment and is very filling. Each come with a choice of miso soup or salad. They're generous with the chopsticks and napkins. The menu is very deep, so if you're a sushi fan you'd have more than enough to choose from. One day hopefully someone will teach me about the rest of the menu. Since the pandemic, it's only been take out (when that reopened), so perhaps one day if and when things return to normal we can see how the dining experience is. I've known some people who have and they always said everything was good. Staff has been friendly enough when I call to order and when picking up. Parking is metered, but after 7pm is free. I believe Sundays are free. Yonkers meters have that free 10 minute option if you're just picking up. All in all, a great sushi option and if you do like sushi, you really ought to try this place if you haven't already. Yes, I'm still relatively new to sushi, but this place has kept me liking it and hopefully one day I can try the rest of the menu. Recommended for all fans of sushi or Japanese cuisine. read more

This is my go to spot for sushi. However always pick up because that delivery guy....I might catch a case with him. That's where they lose their first star. The sushi is always fresh and delicious. Had another great meal at Tomo tonight. A nice turn of events, considering our earlier attempt at dinner. Godzilla Roll was great. Wish they used real crab meat instead of imitation but because it's fried, it doesn't do any harm. I love that they have a brown rice option for your maki. Don't be alarmed by the deep color of the brown rice. It still a nice alternative to white and tastes just as good. They offer a nice variety of sakes and hubby and I always love to pop in for an impromptu meal. Doesn't hurt that they're not too far from the homestead but on the weekends, make a reservation because they get PACKED and the front area is too small for all the people they usually have waiting in the wings for a table. After having such terrible experiences at my former favorite sushi spot, East Harbor, I was elated to have been told to try Tomo. Perfect sushi! I ordered the sweet potato roll, Inari, and some spring rolls. 3/3 on each! The sushi was tasty, the spring rolls were crispy, and the Inari packets were perfect. Also received a side salad with my sushi, which paired perfectly with the rice and yams. Also the dressing/sauce that came with the salad was a better dipping sauce than say the soy or duck. If you want perfectly fine sushi in the Yonkers/Woodlawn area, hit up Tomo for a relatively inexpensive good meal. The specials are a great value and the sushi is pretty decent. I would stay away from their Chinese-style entrees, though. The sesame chicken I had was extremely sugary and saucy as opposed to crispy and savory. Also with my meal came miso soup, salad. I would say for the price alone this place is worth a visit. Pros: Warm hand towel before your meal Great menu with plenty of interesting options Shrimp tempura roll and spicy tuna rolls were among the best I've ever had Cons: Ademame starter was a little too heavy on the salt but still good Octopus sashimi was tough and chewy Cucumber and yellowtail rolls were straight-forward and unfortunately a little boring (cucumber, rice and nori: That's it? Yawn.) Rolls weren't well wrapped and kept falling apart. Kind of annoying. I'm curious to see what this place is like at night. I tried this place out because I saw it had four stars and it's nowhere near four stars in my opinion. I sat at the bar. I ordered miso soup which had a weird aftertaste. I ordered Philadelphia rolls and that had a weird taste as well. I then ordered shrimp and chicken hibachi, that comes with fried rice and mixed veggies. The fried rice was bland and not good. My chicken and shrimp had a odd amount of pepper on it and was very soggy and mushy... I don't get it like it wasn't cooked how I'm used to having a Hibachi. Every time my water was empty I had flag and ask. Staff was not that attentive. Overall first impression not impressed at all. But I do like the decor hip and chic. read more

I actually was a believer in the sushi here at Tomo Grille. The reason why I like it is because they put little rice and lots of fish. And usually the fish is fresh, but all it takes is one time to convince me that they are...mediocre. Today I ordered rolls: the spicy tuna roll, the spicy salmon roll and the tempura roll. The spicy tuna and tempura roll were good. The tuna was borderline though, but still edible. The salmon though was NOT EDIBLE AT ALL. It smelled so bad and had a strong fishy taste, which tells me the restaurant is scrimping on freshness. I believe restaurants deserve a chance to correct their mistakes (in fact, it shows great character as customer service when a restaurant admits fault and rectifies it). Today they didn't take that chance. I called, not looking for anything back (although I should've asked for my money back) but just to let them know their salmon wasn't fresh today. The lady on the phone snapped at me and said, "Ok, noted, bye!" Then hangs up on me. This only means she didn't really care what happened to my order. Be careful w this place. Sushi should be fresh. I thought I had more money for tip but I didn't only had a few singles, I apologized to driver guy and promised him I would tip better but it was all I had, delivery guy got mad and wanted more money. Delivery guy started yelling and called the restaurant speaking in yelling in Mandarin on the phone. He was blocking the door so I told him to step back because he's blocking the door. I closed the door and thought I was over but it wasn't. He starts bagging on the door yelling hello hello. I open he demanded tip of the few dollars while speaking mandarían. I gave it to him and left. This whole event was like 20 minutes of him standing in the hallway yelling. I called the restaurant explain what happened and she said he's very friendly he doesn't yell.
