I walked in to get a table for 2 for lunch about 3 weeks ago and was ignored. I asked if I could speak to the manager and I was told 'No' and then 'No, No" when I asked to speak to someone. This was the young chef who was the only one at the front of house. There were no customers at 1:15pm. The ambiance is foul because you don't have proper customer service. I didn't want to try the food of the person behind the counter making it could be so dismissive - I definitely didn't want hom making my raw food! You will never get my money and I love sushi. Kaito is a hidden gem in Bronxville because I've driven by it so many times and not even noticed. Plus it's located where I honestly didn't expect a sushi spot anyway. This quaint little restaurant, has a decent menu and prices are very reasonable. After some Christmas shopping, Kaito was the ace in the hole. Place is compact and I can definitely see evenings getting crammed so book in advance. My Sweet Potato, Yellowtail+Scallion and Spicy Salmon Lunch Special Rolls were all fresh including hubs'. I redeemed my Check-In Offer and got the Salmon Nigiri 'Chef's Choice'. Pet peeves? Minor- but would've enjoyed my Sweet Potato Roll- if Orange Sweet Potato was used instead of the white. Also- maybe it's my perception but I didn't like the crosshatch scoring Kaito does on their Nigiri. Anyhow... for an early Wednesday afternoon, Kaito was calm with a few other folks also having lunch. Service was pleasant and this place was fine on a whim. We sat at the sushi bar, thinking to order sushi, but after skimming the menu decided to order from the cook station in back, a big mistake! Clearly the sushi chefs right in front of us knew their trade, preparing orders skillfully and with scrumptious presentation. Not to be wholly remiss, we did try the sushi, me two pieces of eel, and my friend a tuna avocado roll. The cook in back, however, overcooked my shrimp yaki soba, with shrimp boiled so rubbery, and vegetables and soba so soggy and almost falling apart, i had no basis even to compare or guess how overdone. Whatever essence of soba, made from the heart of each buckwheat groat, had long evaporated, evanescent. I left one piece of shrimp i couldn't bear to finish, a hint for someone to inspect how hard and rubbery. The cook also served my friend a chicken fried rice so wet, it looked steamed rather than fried. Then came our bill and a bit of menu misrepresentation, which our server acknowledged by marking down the $6 pieces of eel, adding $5 sushi is only chef's choice. All-in-all, avoid Friday evening. Our orders took 45 minutes, overcooking. Waiting for a table at our first choice a few doors away would've been wiser. read more

I've dined at Japan Inn (this restaurant's predecessor) and always had a good meal. Based on positive things I heard from friends I decided to give Kaito a try tonight. Kaito is located in the primary commercial hub of Bronxville; there's lots of parking and a lot of shops/restaurants in the area- a great place to walk around on a summer night. But I digress, back to Kaito. The restaurant itself is small but very open and welcoming. The decor is clean - mostly a combination of light and dark wood tones. There's music playing in the background and of course you can't miss the sushi prep station. We decided to start with the pork shumai - it was tasty and came with a spicy mustard on the side. For the main we decided to split three rolls and went with the king crab roll, the kamikaze roll (tuna, yellowtail, and avocado), and the Miya roll (shrimp tempura, avocado, onion, and unagi sauce). Everything tasted super fresh and was presented beautifully. Service was fast and friendly. I had a great dining experience at Kaito and will definitely return when I'm in the mood for sushi. read more

I've been anticipating the moment I would be able to try Kaito. I've heard great things from fellow Yelpers. Hubby and I ventured a short ten minutes from our homestead in Yonkers and found convenient parking. We entered and were sat shortly after our arrival. The place is cozy; it's a bit small, so I could definitely see an issue on a bustling weekend night but we came on a Thursday night so there were plenty of tables available. There were only two servers and they were taking care of the people at the sushi bar, the tables and the take out orders. It was a pretty busy tonight. We started with some apps. Hubby had the Beef Negamaki appetizer and it was, in my opinion, the best we've tasted. The meat was thick and juicy yet not overcooked and chewy, as we've experienced in other establishments. I also ordered a Salmon Skin Hand Roll for myself. It was good. Not too different from others I've had but it was good. We shared a plate of Edamame and ordered the Sashimi Sampler Deluxe to share. It comes with eighteen pieces of sashimi, rice and a choice of soup or salad. We opted for the salad and shared everything. The sashimi selection was nice. Everything was fresh and surprisingly, the price was not crazy, considering the fact that we were in Bronxville. They forgot our salad that came with the entree but we reminded them in time and it was sent to our table within minutes. Even the salad, which is basically the same standard salad you'd see at every sushi restaurant was better than the rest. The dressing had more sesame oil and tasted completely different. We ordered some Shrimp Teriyaki take-out for my son and of course, as the resident Yelper, I must try every non-pork food we come across The teriyaki had good flavor, came with rice and choice of soup or salad. When in Bronxville for the weekend and looking for a delicious meal, yelp pointed me in this direction and what an amazing dining experience this turned out to be. Simply put, Kaito delivered in every way. The place has a low key vibe that instantly makes you feel comfortable. From the fast but relaxing service to the absolutely delicious meals, this was one of the best Asian meals I've had to date. To start, I had the pork gyoza which was delicious. Fried perfectly and the pork itself was excellent. We then got an order of vegetable spring rolls, which were also delicious and fried perfectly. I then had the chicken hot pot dish which was about as close to perfect as you can get. It wasn't too salty as some hot pots can be, but it was seasoned just right and the broth was perfect. The Jake roll is a real crowd pleaser (simple shrimp and crab roll) and so many other specialty rolls and apps as well. Sweet miso eggplant app is delicious as well as traditional favs like sunomono, shumai and hijiki. Also try the clam miso soup instead of the regular miso, it's delicious! But we ate it all up. Maybe it was just a different style. We also ordered the amaebi (sweet shrimp). It wasn't pink, which I thought amaebi was supposed to be. The shrimp was good though. Tender and sweet. They deep fried the head. It was good but I have this weird allergy that can detect unfresh shrimp. My lips swell up. After eating one head my lips were a bit swollen. Not too swollen, which meant it wasn't that old. But it wasn't too fresh either. We also ordered the Godzilla Roll, which was supposed to be a tempura roll topped with spicy tuna. The tuna wasn't spicy. The tempura inside was good but there was a bit too much rice. For me, good rolls have a thin layer of rice. The service was amazing, though. My new favorite sushi spot in westchester county! I was a dedicated Haiku goer, but after trying Kaito, it's hard to go anywhere else. It's definitely a little pricier than its nearby competitors but it's worth it. The fish is much fresher, rolls are crafted better, ambience is more authentic, and the service is incomparable. Haiku's service was getting progressively worse and worse, which pushed me to branch out and I'm so glad I did. If you want good, high quality sushi. Kaito's is your spot. It's fantastic! They also have vegan options, and healthier rolls that are wrapped in cucumber and avocado, sans rice which is awesome! I got 3 pieces of sushi and a mushroom avocado roll (very interesting!), which the waitress helped me order and explained the differences between the special fishes of the day. She even told me, when our food arrived, that the king salmon should be eaten last because It is so buttery and smooth... and dang was she right! I loved their authenticity. This is our favorite sushi place in Bronxville. Georgina is so sweet, the service is always with a smile. They treat you like family which is is big reason why we keep going back. Not to mention they have great sushi and great vegan sushi options (I love their shiitake mushroom roll, and they let me design my own avo hand roll with extra crunch, eel sauce and shriracha - yum! ). We used to go here before I was vegan and the sushi was always great. Hubby still goes for the fish rolls, always fresh and delicious. So ridiculous. The first time I went there during lunchtime for pick up. I ordered a lunch special eel Don. Then I asked how big is the lunch special eel don? The guy said it's small. Side story: their lunch special is NOT to attract more ppl to have lunch there. Actually, use Eel Don as an example, they just serve smaller, thinner cut Eel pieces. So don't think it's special, it's just "you pay for what you get". Anyway, the waiter told me I can get a "dinner" Eel Don instead if I want to have a more. I was quite OK with that in the beginning. After I got my order and paid for it($30), I called back asking for the lunch special price for the Eel Don, the guy told me it is $12. What! Then I complained about why didn't suggest me to get 2 lunch specials. it's $12 * 2 vs $30. After my complaints, the manager agreed to refund me the price difference, which was great! Then 5 mins later, ANOTHER MANAGER called again and dishonored everything we agreed. And 5 mins later, the 1st MANAGER called me again and made up some story about my eel Don is not listed on their "TO-GO" menu, that's why they can ONLY give me the dinner order. which is totally bull-shit. Kaito Sushi, Bronxville is a small town, bad experience/words spread very fast. You can simply solve this by saying you would think more like a customer, not just try to play some 'lunch special vs dinner menu or even "Not exist" TO-GO menu' tricks to get more money from your neighbors. And don't call your customer and tell them the "TO-GO" menu which doesn't even exist. read more

The waitress suggested we try an appetizer that we originally were not even thinking about. On the white board, it was posted as $10. Turns out to be $25. When I asked for an explanation the waitress said the white board was just a small sample and she gave us the regular portion. I felt it was intentionally dishonest.
