Stopped here for lunch on a Saturday when some sort of parade was going on. Being from out of the area, and knowing I was doing Italian for dinner - I wanted something different for lunch. This place has really fallen off. They used to be really good. I went after a few years since I was in the area. I got the chicken combo. Everything was bland. Chicken. Rice. Vegetables. Everything. The vegetables were also very undercooked. The onions were basically raw. The white sauce added some flavor but it just wasn't enough. Giving this 3 Stars. We were looking for a restaurant in this area, and went to the Applebees but they seem to have a staffing shortage, so we walked around and tried here. Largely a take-out place, but there are some seats and tables. We had the Vegetable Gyoza for an appetizer and it was tasty. Tried two of the Hibachi meals, chicken and salmon. I definitely agree with all of the reviews that stated that you get what you pay for in regards to Hibachi Express. They do take the meaning of the Japanese hibachi food making it into a fast food form. I had ordered the steak and shrimp dinner combo that came out to be $10 which was pretty good for city pricing (please excuse me as I am from NJ where everything is a bit cheaper lol). The only reason why I had knock off a star is because it's more on the greasier side and they don't give you as much protein as they give you the rice. But again, you really do get what you pay for. Japanese take-out at it's best. Located on busy North Avenue near that New Roc City, this place brings a little bit of a different taste to the area which is littered with average deli's, a so-so Subway, an ok pizzeria among others. I tried a meal from this place one day to see how they do and I certainly do not regret it. It's great to have a tasty and viable option for lunch days. Unlike a lot of take-outs, this place actually has enough small tables and chairs to sit comfortably at if you want to dine in depending on the time - though it could also be busy and crowded at certain times as well. I've always picked up my order, so I don't know how it is to actually sit there and eat. I would recommend calling in an order at least 15 minutes before pick up. They also have a delivery service, though I have never tried it. As far as the food goes - I've ordered very few items, but taste is great for take out. I only type 'take-out' because sometimes people think that it means "restaurant quality" when it doesn't. You want restaurant quality, go to actual restaurant. I usually order the chicken with broccoli and rice. That excellent white sauce is included and that completely is worth the price alone. Just if you order take out, make sure the container with the sauce is secure - there have been times where some of it leaks out into the bag and it's aggravating. I've never had an issue with staff. The lady there is always nice to me. Sometimes one of the guys rings me out and he's "ok" - just there, but no nastiness from anyone in there. They do have sushi and overall prices are about what you would expect. There is no lot, so you need to try your luck with street parking. So if you're in the area check it out. One star because zero isn't an option. Normally I don't bother writing reviews but this place really bothered me. They charge for sauce extra that should already be included. Their "hibachi fried rice" is white rice with soy sauce and egg... the hibachi steak is 6 tiny pieces of steak over a bed of thick tasteless oily noodles that they had the nerve to charge as a $2.99 upgrade instead of rice. So I can understand why this place doesn't have super high ratings because you have to know what to get and you have to know what to expect. Of course for these prices you're not going to get the kind of Hibachi you would expect at a fancy hibachi restaurant with Hibachi chefs throwing food around on an open grill in front of an audience. It's just not that kind of hibachi. They really should call it Hibachi "Fusion" Express instead. Imagine if they made a fast food restaurant based on Hibachi, then this is what it would be like and it's actually pretty good, especially if you are into typical cart food that you see all over the city. I went in during lunch hours and got the lunch deal - steak Hibachi - which was pretty cheap ($9) considering how delicious the steak was. I'm sure the steak is different every day depending on the cook and how busy it is, and I am sure some people have had bad experiences, but my steak was fresh and cooked perfectly, and I was in awe with every bite! I got it with fried rice (but you can get white or brown rice instead), which keep in mind, is only fried rice with a bit of egg, meaning there are no extra vegetables like peas or carrots sauteed in the fried rice....however every Hibachi meal comes with sauteed vegetables, like zucchini, onions, broccoli and mushrooms, mixed in with the meat. I liked them all, especially the zucchini. Just make sure to get it with white sauce (85 cents) because it tastes so good over the Steak, and reminds me of really good cart food in Manhattan. Now I don't think their Sushi is spectacular, but again, you are getting sushi at lower prices here. I would probably compare it to decent Supermarket Sushi, which isn't bad, but of course not five-star sushi grade type sushi. You're getting what you pay for, and if you are in a munchie mood and you don't have your heart set on fancy hibachi food, (and you like typical fast food cart food), then this is your place, and I advise you go during lunch hours because although the price is the same, you also get soup, salad OR an egg roll with your lunch. I wouldn't eat in there because it is a typical take out looking Asian place and nothing pretty to look at really. I have never gotten delivery from them but I think I would stick to take out just so that I can enjoy my food being fresh... since, keep in mind, you really wanted this type of food to be hot. Great idea, hibachi on the go? You can't beat that. I haven't dined here yet but it was on my bookmarks so I decided to get takeout from here. Delivery was quick and convenient, the minimum for delivery is $15, I had the filet mignon/teriyaki chicken with fried rice, it was tasty and cooked well, it was seasoned well and not salty which is important to me, something new to me is the white sauce that they include, it's really good and compliments the food really well. Having been in the restaurant only once, this review will be based on delivery and the food itself (obviously). My sister and I were craving some Hibachi, so we ordered from Hibachi Express (after not eating there for some time). We called at around 11:30 on a Friday and the food came less than 20 minutes later, super quick. I ordered the gyoza appetizer and the Hibachi steak and chicken, while my sister ordered the express bowl. The gyoza appetizer came with 6 gyozas, tasted alright, on the softer side. The sauce was red which was off-putting at first, but I believe it was soy sauce and it tasted okay. The hibachi meal itself was pretty good, a little oily, but it was a huge portion at a reasonable price. The steak and chicken were cooked well as well. My favorite part of Hibachi Express is their white sauce. No clue what it really is (haha), but it's soooo good. This place was a pleasant surprise! As someone who so thoroughly appreciates the Hokie Sauce at Kobe in Blacksburg, VA, this place is my new Asian food go-to. Their sauce, also in ketchup bottles like at Kobe, is the closest thing to Hokie Sauce I have tasted and is sooo delicious! Found out about this place when I was a junior or senior at Iona College. It is great! I recommend it for people who want good Japanese food at a reasonable price! We watched the chef make it fresh after we ordered so you're definitely not getting anything that's been sitting around. I recommend the Express Rice Bowls lunch special with the white sauce. Not too expensive, but great when you want quick hibachi food at a reasonable price. The portions aren't very large, and my husband will often purchase two entree items instead of one to become full. For that reason, we don't order very often. We can go to a hibachi sit down restaurant and pay similar price. I always order when I am on my own and always have something leftover. I ordered pick-up on GrubHub, and when I got there and picked up their menu I saw cheaper prices. If you go on their website you will see the cheaper prices as well. The Chinese Lunch Special is $3 cheaper than on GrubHub. Other things are $1 or $2 less than on Grubhub. Even the delivery fee on their site is cheaper. Went here because for some reason this is the only hibachi place I can find in the NYC area (even though it's technically upstate) besides Benihana in Manhattan. It was decent. Good amount of food. I feel the chicken had more of the fresh of the grill outside taste than hibachi. But covered in yum yum (white) sauce it was fine. With the lunch special they offer you an egg roll, miso soup or a salad. I got the miso, huge portion. My best friend got the "egg roll," or should I say "egg roll mini." It was TINY & it wasn't very appealing after the first bite. Saved the best for last though. Their spicy crab rolls? TO DIE FOR. If my review was based on that alone, I'd give them 5 stars. This used to be my favorite place to order from when I lived in new rochelle so for New Years my family decided to order pickup and drive about a while to pick it up. We called around 4 and said we would be an hour due to needing to make a few stops and the current traffic. Around 40 minutes later I got a call asking if we were still coming and I said yes that we'd be there in about 15 minutes. As we were a few blocks away I got a call from the same number, yelling at me that if I was not there in 5 minutes they were canceling my order. My mother who I was with called back as she was very angry at how I was being talked to and the response was no more polite, nor was the reaction when we got there. I would be a lot more understanding had it been the end of the night and I never showed, but we were right within the time range we gave and I was being yelled at over the phone. And not only that but the food was no where near as good as it was when we ordered in the past. Definitely won't be coming back. read more
