    a plate of sushi
    Jane Y.

I got sushi to go for the first time here during quarantine, and who while I cannot speak about the dining experience, to be honest, it seems to be more of a take out sushi place rather than a leisurely dining experience. The sushi to go was yummy. Called, placed an order for a platter of rolls, picked it up, and it held up the drive to New Jersey. The fish was fresh, the variety of rolls were yummy, but the real standout here is their avocado rolls! I normally stray away from vegetarian rolls as most places lack any umami or appeal in their vegetarian sushi rolls, but I was pleasantly surprised with how much flavor and deliciousness this roll was filled with! Maybe it was the ripe avocado? Maybe it was the sesame seeds? I dont know, but it was good! So why the 3 stars? While the rolls were yummy, the fish of good quality, well seasoned sushi rice, and pretty presentation - the rolls broke apart when you lifted them off the tray to eat. Like they did not stay in tact in their cylindrical pieces but it was like nearly every roll had a slit cut into the seaweed preventing them from keeping closed! Now I am not a sushi chef... but I'm pretty sure on a good roll holds together...

Thai General Tso's Chicken/ White Rice/ Special Vegetable Roll

I ordered the general tso chicken and vegetable rolls with rice on the side. The food was great I will be a frequent client to this business. Ima real person not no bot or employee. Just beyond satisfied with the quality and cleanliness of the food.

Iv never had sushi rice like this...

I am really disappointed. I ordered three rolls from here today and went all the way home only to find that the rice on every roll was completely gelatinized. You couldn't even differentiate one grain of rice from the other. It was as if they added way too much water to the rice and it congealed into one mushy mess. Instead of using new rice they just used this batch. It was inedible and I just waisted money on this. I will not be returning.

Godzilla Roll and Lobster Tempura Roll (I believe). Both very high quality and fresh!

Enjoyed a great lunch with colleagues here. The sushi was fantastic and fresh. The lunch specials were very reasonably priced and even the special sushi rolls were fair. Very small restaurant that doesn't look great from the outside, but the inside was small and cute. Only 3-4 tables inside to done in but many people were stopping in to pickup takeout it looked like. Definitely recommend this!

Salmon skin roll, eel avocado, and spicy crab roll
    Victoria L.

New to the neighborhood and my boyfriend decided to surprise me with sushi tonight! We ordered the kani salad, 3 rolls (salmon skin, eel avocado, and spicy crab) which came with miso soup, and the Thai General Taos. The kani salad was small portion but tasted good! The eel avocado was the best roll, spicy crab was good and the salmon skin was average. The miso soup was mostly broth which was disappointing. And the General Taos was also good, not too breaded, and we ordered it medium spicy. Order was delivered still hot and under 30 mins.

a lil bit of tuna & a whole lot of fried rice krispie treats, the classic mark of a cheap sushi place

The food was good. But their service was poor. Their business is based on takeout. It's not a place to go and be waited on.

The food was absolutely delicious everything we ordered was flavorful, fresh, and thankfully had no fishy taste at all. We really enjoyed every dish and left feeling completely satisfied. The ambiance was another highlight. The restaurant was spacious, clean, and comfortable, and it wasn't too loud, so we could actually relax, enjoy our food, and have a good conversation. It made the birthday celebration feel even more special and enjoyable. Overall, it was a great experience with good food, a beautiful and relaxing atmosphere, and wonderful company. The staff was friendly and welcoming, which made for a pleasant experience. Parking was convenient, with both street parking and municipal paid lots nearby. As for the food, I thought the sushi was okay. The salmon, scallop and tuna Nigiri were fresh and tasty . They were definitely one bites. The inari was pleasantly sweet, but the rice wasn't packed tightly enough into the fried tofu pocket. The loose, unfilled end made the texture a little off and less enjoyable. The futomaki didn't include the tobiko listed on the menu, which is a typical ingredient in this roll. It also lacked much flavor, so I probably wouldn't order it again. The Unagi was very good. My daughter said I don't eat eel. We also ordered the seafood tempura, which included shrimp, lobster, scallops, and vegetables. The seafood had a light, crisp tempura batter that I enjoyed. The vegetables were less impressive, as the batter was thicker and lacked the delicate, airy texture and crispness in a tempura that which they achieved with the seafood. My daughter ordered the pork katsu curry. The pork was fried nicely and came in a generous portion. The Japanese curry sauce was lighter than what we've had at other restaurants, which she actually preferred. Both entrées were served with miso soup and salad and were good. Most Japanese restaurants you get either or so kudos for giving both. They don't have a full-service bar, but they do offer beer, wine, and sake. Overall, the service and atmosphere were enjoyable, overall I found some bites better than others. The meal was really better than a three but not quite a four too bad you can't give half cause it's definitely a solid 3.5

As many of you know I am cultured. I'm seasoned. In age and in ethnicity. Lightly seasoned? Sure…read more But seasoning nonetheless? Depends who you ask. Oh Desdemona, how unlucky you were. Oh Yelp, how lucky I am. How lucky I always am. How lucky I was to stumble upon Hawaii Japanese Cuisine on the ever industrious Warburton Ave. Saturday Farmers Market. Meredith's Bakery. Chocolate Chip Cream Cheese Bread. If you know you know. Anyways. Out in Waikiki I learned to appreciate Poke. I once appreciated Pokemon. What's Politoed up to these days. Surprisingly, or unsurprisingly depending on your grasp of history, Poke is actually a Hawaiian dish. Japanese inspired, of course, but that's why the name of this spot is quite unique (although not catchy). Catch of the day. Rack of the day. So how'd I get here? You ask? ASK ME. Fine! I'll answer. Calm down, needy much? I'm an active guy. I participate in activities. Typically solo, I'm riding solo I'm riding solo solooooo. Man, just imagine walking down the city streets with a Walkman in blasting Les Miz. The dream. Anyways. I just got back from the island life and I was craving some fresh fish, at a sizable size with some balance of fruit, veggies, sauce and quantity for a beautiful price. And I just so happened to be running myself into the ground at the track in Irvington. Or was it that low-lying track in Hastings. The bees. The bumblebees. Maybe the hornets. It was Irvington. The bulldogs. Grrrrrr. I just ran myself into the ground. Sprints for about an hour. Bad hammy. Few months later tore the calf while calfmaxxing. Probably related. First muscle injury in a spinning dixie, gotta have muscles to injure them? Not really but that's what I'll tell myself. So I rip the farmers market. Then I rip the soosh spot, ordered online. Walked in, handsomely. Very friendly and respectful and nice staff and have been everytime I've gone since. The weight of the food in hand was ridonk so I was optimistic. I also got a few desserts down the road. Some hardbody that was completely eyeing down my grass-fed grass-finished hog at the track was somehow now across the street drinking a protein smoothie. My aura stinks of grandeur, but I avoid it. I'm taken lady. Did she follow me? Gross. What a joke. Really put things into perspective. I'm a fat slob, a professional self sabotager. But I work hard for this fat and that's what makes me a special boy. Hawaii Japanese Cuisine has the best poke in the area. They never let you down. I never let you down. Benvolio. As your voice of reason, I reason you to give it a go. A humble hero in Hastings.

This review, though, is all about their omakase experience. As always, the service was exceptional. The owner and staff are incredibly welcoming, attentive, and genuinely make you feel like a valued guest. The only reason this wasn't a perfect 10/10 had nothing to do with the restaurant. It's a small, intimate space, and unfortunately another table had a baby who cried throughout much of the meal. Not the restaurant's fault at all, but it's something to keep in mind if you're looking for a quiet omakase experience. Now for the food, the omakase was fantastic. I won't go through every course because part of the fun is the surprise, but what really stood out was the fish-to-rice ratio. Every piece was generously topped with beautifully fresh fish instead of being overloaded with rice, which I absolutely loved. Each bite was thoughtfully prepared, incredibly fresh, and full of flavor. Dessert was another pleasant surprise. Instead of the usual ending you get at many sushi restaurants, they served matcha ice cream topped with sweet red bean paste and pieces of mochi. It was unique, refreshing, and the perfect finish to the meal. Overall, I'll definitely continue coming back, not just for the omakase, but for their regular menu as well. If you're an omakase fan or looking for a quality sushi experience without breaking the bank, this place is absolutely worth a visit.

Our favorite menu items include: sushi deluxe, tricolor sushi, heat roll. However, the sashimi is the best part- fatty tuna, yellowtail and salmon are the best.
