We got original soup dumpling crab soup dumpling, yeung chow fried rice, marinated pork slice, scallion pancake, pork chop with rice cake. The soup dumpling wrappers are a little thick and some have less soup than others but flavor were good. The yeung chow fried rice was a miss the fried rice was a little wet so maybe they use freshly made rice. The marinated pork slice was good in flavor but had a good bit of fat like some pieces were pure fat basically which I didn't like. The scallion pancake was okay it was a little thick so I didn't like it much. The pork chop with rice cake had good flavor and was probably my favorite The place inside is not big because but was nicely decorated and the staff was okay they weren't very attentive and never ask us about how was everything the only time we saw them was when we order, when we get our food, and when we pay. The food: The portions are generous for the price and most dishes are great for sharing. We started with the Crab Rangoons, which were mostly cream cheese and tasted a bit like they'd been frozen, so not my favorite. The crowds on the weekend are insane, so insane I'm not sure if it's worth trying to get a spot! The food is good. Nothing I ordered was bad and I loved the noodles. Even my toddler loved the noodles! The soup dumplings are on point, Surprisingly the bubble tea is also really good, and was a perfect dessert. The service was... eh. You can never go wrong at dim sum garden. From the karaoke singer at the entrance to the delicious meal and reasonable prices. Start to finish this is a great place to go and the full restaurant proved my point. But despite the crowd service is still fast and friendly. The soup dumplings are amazing. The broth is packed with flavor, we order the crab and pork this time. The chicken is tender and the garlic sauce is fabulous. The biggest complaint is it's very loud and noisy. Stopped in here because we were craving soup dumplings! After walking around Chinatown for a little while, this place drew us in with their 'Spicy Pork Soup Dumplings', and we were not disappointed! We ordered the spicy soup dumplings, which were so delicious with just enough spice, the bok choy, which was plentiful but I do wish it was a little bit more cooked and smaller pieces, and lastly the pan fried pork soup dumplings. The ambiance of the restaurant was cool and a lot bigger than it looks from the outside and also has a full bar. I got there around 11 and got seated right away, 75 percent of the tables were already occupied. As the day progressed, more people are coming in a rapid pace. My waitress Avila is super friendly and courteous. Food came out pretty fast. I ordered shiu may and hargaw. They are decent. My giant soup dumpling was super hot. I recommend not to eat it right away because it will burn your mouth and throat. It come with a straw that is commonly used for bubble tea to drink the broth. Dim Sum Garden is my family's first restaurant in Philadelphia. We have been open for 5 years and have since moved to a new location! Our family has been making Xiao Long Bao (soup dumpings) and Shanghai dimsum for 3 generations and my mother brings over 35 years of experience to Philadelphia. Enjoy our authentic Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplings), Scallion Pancakes, Pan Fried Soup dumplings, and more! Open everyday!

Meet the Manager: Sally S.

The soup dumpling is the most popular dim sum item in Shanghai and nearly the entire southern China. My mom, Shizhou Da, is the Founder and Head Chef of Dim Sum Garden in Philadelphia, PA. She is the fifth generation of the original four chefs who created the Xiao Long Bao. Not only she has had the original recipe of the Xiao Long Bao, she also went to a cooking school at age of 18 and learned everything for the entire line of Shanghai style dim sum. She has been a Dim Sum Chef for over thirty years. She came to Philadelphia in 2008 to put together Philly's only Shanghai Dim Sum Restaurant, the Dim Sum Garden. ‼THE PORK IN THE DUMPLINGS IS RAW. LITERALLY PLEASE CHECK IT. ‼ Would absolutely give it 0 stars if it was possible. *To preface, I used to absolutely love this place. My boyfriend and I were very excited to go on our date here. *Dumplings looked visibly OLD and RUBBERY, which is why we picked it apart in the first place. *Extremely RUDE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Will not look any customer (ESPECIALLY POC) ‼ in the face and when spoken to, they speak over the customer to then talk about you in Chinese. *My boyfriend and I just wanted our dumplings REMADE, because MISTAKES HAPPEN and we get that. After we tried to explain our issue, they walked away from us, making NO ATTEMPT to help us out. I should have trusted my first instinct, but because I always see lines to get in here, I thought they must be good. Where do I start: It seemed dirty and every sauce container I picked up on the table was slimy. We order 3 appetizers. The standard pork dumplings with scallions weren't bad, but they were average at best. The scallion pancakes were greasy with few to no scallions. She ate only the broccoli and threw up all last night. Enter at your own risk. This place in my opinion, was awful! I do not recommend coming here. I have no idea what other people are getting but, what I got was awful! Do not listen to other people's responses! The only things I recommend is the dumplings. Our food was watery and, they kept giving us food that wasn't even ours repeatedly. The waitress was giving us a attitude. Right when we entered the restaurant they told us to "Come over here and sit right here!" This place wasn't even a traditionally dim sum, they don't come over rolling food and asking if you want that. I honestly was really disappointed, and I'm only 12! I am Asian and, the food that they gave us wasn't regular tasting Asian food! We had to call the waitress over and tell them to try our food since it was watery. Their service was horrendous! The portions here are smaller than I am used to in California. However, that is not why I am giving 3 stars. -1 for the service, and -1 for the food. Some of the plates that were given to us were not thoroughly clean. There were still some smudges of food on it from not being washed properly. One of the cups of water that they served us had a little crack near the top. What really threw me off were the chicken feet. It was like honey chicken feet instead of the usual dim sum chicken feet that I was expecting. I guess the fact that the chicken feet were a little too orange instead of red should have been a sign. Supposedly this is the "best" dim sum in the area according to a worker and a customer that we talked to when asking for suggestions on what to eat in the area while shopping. This is the definition of a hole in the wall place that serves good Chinese food in Philadelphia. This place is known for their Chinese soup dumplings which is what everyone comes here for. However their Pan Fried Napa and Chive dumplings are just as delicious.I would recommend ordering these and the soup dumplings! I came here with 2 friends, and was full for under $30. Definitely a place you get your bang for your buck. The other dishes are the typical ones you can order at Chinese restaurants. The location is right next to the Chinatown bus terminal, right around the corner from WaWa. I have been here many times, and each time is a fulfilling experience. The food doesn't take too long to make, and the service is good. I went here the first week of the new year with my boyfriend and his mom. It was a new place that we wanted to try out because of all the nice reviews. Sadly, it did not meet my expectation. The wait was extremely long and when we were finally seated it and gave our orders, each of our meals came one person at a time so we could not eat together. My boyfriend asked if our food would be coming together soon, a manager said it could be sent together if we wanted it raw but the chefs thought we might like it best cooked. Best soup dumplings hands down as well as the dry beef noodle, scallion pancakes and chive pork dumplings.Having patronized Shizhou Da's kitchen for quite a while (going back to when it was located on 11th St), we have noticed an impeccable level of consistency in all the Dim Sum preparations. I've went to Dim Sum Garden 6 times in order to rate this company. Although their service was somewhat decent, the food they serve can still replace it by a little bit. However, their XLB are not at all made with effort, it didn't have the original taste in it as if it was altered negatively. If you are in a rush, I suggest you go here for a nearby dim sum. However, other dim sum nearby such as the Philadelphia Magazine reported that "Tom's Dim Sum" was one of the best restaurant in Philly. I went there 4 times and their service just kept getting better, I would suggest anyone to try it out. read more

This is my favorite place to go for dumplings! We got there and there was almost a line all the way to the door so I was surprised by how quickly we were seated. All of the food was delicious and very filling. I would definitely recommend the vegetable noodles and fried chicken dumplings. The only thing I would note is the service. I had to ask three different waiters to clear one of our dishes because there wasn't enough room on the table for the order. This is my favorite place to eat dim sum at. The line can get pretty long. As in the length of the store and outside. Try to come before the dinner rush, especially on weekends. It's BYOB so don't be afraid to whip out a wine bottle, they will offer you glasses to drink it with. It's clear that the staff is not very good at speaking English but they make it up by being very kind and helpful. There's more seating towards the back even though it doesn't look like there is. The decor is nice! Newly renovated with enlarged photos of Shang Hai, where soup dumplings come from. I have been their customer since the old location. I was really excited to check out their new location and new menu. They offer more dishes/desserts which is a great addition. However, I was really disappointed by their soup dumplings. Hands down the best dumplings in Philadelphia. And for significantly less than an average of $3-$5 per plate (of 6 dumplings) you can not go wrong. Can be somewhat rough to seek out as it's hidden away on Filbert. When I first walked in I really thought I had been stepped back into a restaurant in the mainland, and was even more sure when my food arrived. If you go on a busy evening there will be a line. But that's a good thing. The line moves fast especially if your willing to share a table. Very tasty dim sum and extremely friendly and attentive staff. We went back two nights in a row and our server remembered our drink order the previous night. You can bring your own booze. When we asked for a table, I was told that they are too busy with takeout orders and that they couldn't seat us. I want to stress that the noodles were tasty, but again, out of an excellent tasting menu we built for ourselves, it was the plain Jane of the bunch. Beyond that, they have some tasty baizhou (spelling?) that'll get you wasted while enjoying the food. Highly recommend you go with a large group. If you go with less than four people you will have food envy from all the tables who are sharing amazing dishes that your stomach just doesn't have room for.
