Only ordered 2 things but very pleasantly surprised how good the food was and not too bad for the money. Soup Dumplings are a little larger than I'm used to. Most places I go to serve tiny ones. We got original soup dumpling crab soup dumpling, yeung chow fried rice, marinated pork slice, scallion pancake, pork chop with rice cake. The soup dumpling wrappers are a little thick and some have less soup than others but flavor were good. The yeung chow fried rice was a miss the fried rice was a little wet so maybe they use freshly made rice. The marinated pork slice was good in flavor but had a good bit of fat like some pieces were pure fat basically which I didn't like. The scallion pancake was okay it was a little thick so I didn't like it much. The pork chop with rice cake had good flavor and was probably my favorite The place inside is not big because but was nicely decorated and the staff was okay they weren't very attentive and never ask us about how was everything the only time we saw them was when we order, when we get our food, and when we pay. The crowds on the weekend are insane, so insane I'm not sure if it's worth trying to get a spot! The food is good. Nothing I ordered was bad and I loved the noodles. Even my toddler loved the noodles! The soup dumplings are on point, Surprisingly the bubble tea is also really good, and was a perfect dessert. The service was... eh. I got the beef with hot peppers, it wasn't spicy but very flavorful. You could smell the beef as they brought it to the table, and I already knew it was good before I even took a bite. Everything had the perfect balance of spice and taste. My friend said she's always satisfied here, and I get why. You can never go wrong at dim sum garden. From the karaoke singer at the entrance to the delicious meal and reasonable prices. Start to finish this is a great place to go and the full restaurant proved my point. But despite the crowd service is still fast and friendly. The soup dumplings are amazing. The broth is packed with flavor, we order the crab and pork this time. The chicken is tender and the garlic sauce is fabulous. The biggest complaint is it's very loud and noisy. Stopped in here because we were craving soup dumplings! After walking around Chinatown for a little while, this place drew us in with their 'Spicy Pork Soup Dumplings', and we were not disappointed! We ordered the spicy soup dumplings, which were so delicious with just enough spice, the bok choy, which was plentiful but I do wish it was a little bit more cooked and smaller pieces, and lastly the pan fried pork soup dumplings. The ambiance of the restaurant was cool and a lot bigger than it looks from the outside and also has a full bar. I got there around 11 and got seated right away, 75 percent of the tables were already occupied. As the day progressed, more people are coming in a rapid pace. My waitress Avila is super friendly and courteous. Food came out pretty fast. I ordered shiu may and hargaw. They are decent. My giant soup dumpling was super hot. I recommend not to eat it right away because it will burn your mouth and throat. It come with a straw that is commonly used for bubble tea to drink the broth. I did not partake in the somewhat gimmicky "giant soup dumpling," but my friend vouches for it, so there you go. We split a ton of food on a Sunday with plenty of leftovers. Fantastic service and attention, as our water glasses never got empty. My favorites were the shrimp with udon noodles and the scallion pancakes, which were doughy, crispy and so delicious. I LOVE DIM SUM GARDEN! But can they please accept card so I don't have to pull out cash every time? I love their beef ho fun. Thick noodles are my faveee and the amount of noodles, beef, and beansprouts is perfection! I also love drowning my noodles in black vinegar and chili oil. This spot has been on my yelp hit list for a few years. Checked out their new location right in the heart of Chinatown. Let me say, they did not disappoint! Everything was delicious from the dumplings to the sides. Some of the other standouts for me where the dry fried string beans, spare ribs, and the chicken with garlic sauce. Great service. It's definitely worth mentioning that they are CASH ONLY. It's not noted anywhere in the restaurant that I saw, but they do have two ATM machines on site. read more

Dim Sum Garden is my family's first restaurant in Philadelphia. We have been open for 5 years and have since moved to a new location! Our family has been making Xiao Long Bao (soup dumpings) and Shanghai dimsum for 3 generations and my mother brings over 35 years of experience to Philadelphia. Meet the Manager: Sally S.

The soup dumpling is the most popular dim sum item in Shanghai and nearly the entire southern China. My mom, Shizhou Da, is the Founder and Head Chef of Dim Sum Garden in Philadelphia, PA. She is the fifth generation of the original four chefs who created the Xiao Long Bao. Not only she has had the original recipe of the Xiao Long Bao, she also went to a cooking school at age of 18 and learned everything for the entire line of Shanghai style dim sum. She has been a Dim Sum Chef for over thirty years. She came to Philadelphia in 2008 to put together Philly's only Shanghai Dim Sum Restaurant, the Dim Sum Garden. In addition, they have loud trucks every day disrupting the quiet street behind. Many elderly live there and are woken up by the loud beeping from the truck alarms, as well as trash truck coming VERY early and waking up residents. No consideration for those who live right there. I will be contacting the city about this issue as there was a similar problem in Fishtown and now that restaurant is no longer allowed to have trucks outside of reasonable hours disturbing residents. The trucks are also TOO large to safely turn into their loading station and people park their SUVs making the space even smaller. They constantly case a problem with traffic blockages because of the trucks unable to turn into the loading dock.
